Scotty. I bought a new 2012 Honda Civic for $17,000.00 new, I still see dealers selling Civics this same year for the same amount. in 2024.
Hey Scotty I have a 2003 350z with heat only on acceleration I also started getting a p0300 code I changed the thermostat belts and did a radiator flush I don't have white smoke or bubbles coming out I can't figure this out are these two things connected or two different problems please help
When these trucks arrive in the U.S., greedy Toyota dealerships will sell them with high markups, like they did to GR Corolla.
Or like they are doing with every truck on the lot. If people would just STOP paying those prices then the prices will come down. And those Lots that refuse to drop their prices can go bankrupt and sit on all their overpriced vehicles.
I don't think they'll ever make these trucks in the US
Truth be it, Toyota is top of the heap with the best vehicles.
Most people buying new cars for high prices are immigrants.
I've noticing young Americans owning old cars and young immigrants brand new ones. They are willing to pay that high on cars because on their country the prices are even higher, so to them, it's basically 1/4 or 1/3 of the prices on their country.
I'll wait a few years & get a used one.
I bought a new 1983 Toyota four wheel drive pickup for $8295.00. you say never bye new. I think after almost 41 years and counting I got my monies worth. Lol
That is a lot of money. My dad bought a new 1985 Chevy Silverado new for $9000.00. back in 1985.
i paid 5 grand for an 1985 tw0 yeas old sr 5 pu 250.000 miles still going strong oses no oil problem spent 800 dollars worth of repairs
I bet the Silverado is still running!!
The problem with buying new is you don't know how it will turn out. You just got lucky here.
@@Pwn3540 Could say the same about buy used. It could start having endless repairs.
The last of old technology is usually better than the first of new technology.
Well Put!
That means combustion engines have never been better while current EVs are still a work in progress.
It means the old model is better than a new revamped one.
They nickel and dime them to crap.
Electric cars are over 130 years old.
That point was passed last year. There is no future foe ICE cars at all. 55 countries passed the tipping point.
WHOA! there Scotty ... when is the last time you purchased a used car?? where in the heck can you puchase a used Toyota with 70k miles at 30% of the orginal cost?!?!? That is like 10 years ago money, not today!
I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma prerunner ... 280 K ... Still runs strong .
Good lookin', too!
Best vehicle I ever owned, 1988 Toytota 4WD pickup.
Pickup trucks cost so much now. Its just crazy to spend that kind of money. Dealerships are a bunch of crooks.
But the companies are also missing the market. These pickups are almost luxury automobiles designed for white collar men who want to pretend they are macho DIYs. Where are the cheap trucks that are smaller, low cost interior, cheap sound system, not really designed for comfortable driving? Give me an economical pick-up truck designed for my weekend needs of hauling trash, leaves to the dump and to carry a few sheets of plywood and 2x4s no more than 20 miles. That's what most people need to do.
If some company brought that to market, and sold it for
But Scotty we Can’t find a guy like you ! You broke the mold.
Scotty...at 4:00 you spoke of folks getting past their 2-wheeling days and getting a Mazda Miata. At age 70, I did exactly that. Bought in 2021 a 2008 Mazda Miata MX-5 "Grand Touring" model with 169 HP , 6-speed manual, leather heated seats, Bose killer sound system, only 32K on the clock ?? Special beefed-up suspension, Bilstein shocks, its a rocket on rails. Loads of fun, easily barks 1st & 2nd gears when showing off...takes 45mph curves at 60mph !! Its the most fun you can have fully clothed, I would drive it nekkid if not for the coppers...
Buy 30-40% of original price with 70k miles? Strong disagreement here. Higher $$. More like 70%.
Scott has the traditional wisdom right..the only problem Right now is a pandemic screwed up the market to where a used car is roughly 70-80 sometimes the same pricing as the new version. With that said I’ll be new until a market correction occurs
That was the right move 10 to 15 years ago, sadly now you're fucked regardless.
Right. I think he flipped his percentages. The dealership will give me about 92% of what I paid for my 2019 4runner. Only problem is the new ones are even more expensive.
2002 Buick Le Saber 3800 273,000 miles 20 years old. Never had transmission problem- drove it smooth. Chicagoland salt rusted the underside out.
🌹 True real life 🌹
My wife and i made a huge mistake. Traded our 2015 corolla that had 89,000KM for a 2015 Passat feom my inlaws. In the first year we spent almost 5 grand on the passat and my inkaws sold the corolla for 14,000$
VWs are UNRELIABLE MONEY Pits
Scotty. I bought a new 2012 Honda Civic for $17,000.00 new, I still see dealers selling Civics this same year for the same amount.

2025 Camry is more of a refresh of the current model, so less likely to have major problems.
I have a 1987 Yugo GV ..bought it new.....as of now I have 347,000 miles on it with original motor and trans........
Remember when they came out I was like 19. If I remember correctly you could buy a bran new one for under 4 grand. That thing was smaller than the others, the Escort, Civic hatchback, Chevy Chevette. I had a beater Plymouth Champ I bought off a coworker for 250.00. I'LL never forget the YUGO though. Tiny. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. Peace......

Got a '12 Kia Forte over 300k still going strong!
Good for you. I assume you must have taken good care of your Kia 👍
@chrish8487 Regular maintenence, but never 'babied'. Used for a pilot car.
WOW, it's making in my eyes KIA and Hyundai growing in quality, maybe better then GM or Ford's
2010 kia still going strong and its a first model year i believe not close to your milage though only 92k
Kia salesman alert
Waiting five years and buying one is exactly what I decided on for getting a newer Camry. Any issues with the 2019 have been identified by now so i was pretty confident going out and buying a used one.
Luckily I live in a same town with a great small shop with a mechanic that really loves and cares about his work. His dad who run the shop just retired but help him out sometimes.
Ford need to drop the EV crap and focus on producing good, affordable cars again.
they’re going bankrupt.
Ford is fuked. just like GM. If you know, you know. if you don’t you don’t. but reality is ugly for ford.
They should start by making cars again other than mustangs
Found on road dead
We need to force the public to adopt electric vehicles. The majority of drivers would be better suited for them. Unless you can prove good cause to own an ICE vehicle, you shouldn’t be allowed to own one
$20k car... dealers marking it up to $40k
Good stuff, as usual Scotty. “Don’t buy a Kia, unless you don’t like yourself and love wasting money”. Hilarious 🤣
You are a great TH-camr! Your content is amazing! Please keep them coming!
Even Toyota screws up first year releases. My friend worked at a Toyota dealership's repairs and recall department right out of high school. The 2001 Camry had so many issues, the overtime he got around that time paid for most of his undergrad degree.
Have a 2015 sonata hybrid, change oil and filter every 4k miles, runs like a top. My opinion is that you maintain any vehicle and you drive it normally, it will last a lifetime, mine has over 225 k miles, I’ll never get rid of it. Love it
Toyota allowed me to skip a month in payments but gave me the wrong information. They said I had to send a hand written letter to an address, which I did, They just replied and said they will not reverse their report, even though it would cost them nothing to do so and it was their error. I cant believe how bad this whole experience has been. My credit score dropped 100pts.
If Toyota puts their old 22R, and 20R motor in them I would buy one
Scotty indicated it is fun to drive with manual transmissions.
The stout pickup is supposed to cost around $20k
If it ever comes out, which unfortunately I don't think will ever be made
Bought my 17 year old daughter a used Honda Fit for $7K, this car is in immaculate condition and I saved 50% from the original price !
You made a good purchase. They are great little cars. Teach her care and maintenance. Also she can haul all her stuff to college.😂
Thanks Russ!
Proper care n It'll Run FOREVER
Hmm what do you think of an 88 5.0 convertible foxbody? I picked mine up for 4 grand and the body is straight
Scotty the problem with used cars right now is that 1 -3 year old used cars are 5-15% less then new cars. It's really difficult to find a used car 1-3 years old that is 30-40% lower then new cars.
Never bought a new car, when i was younger almost did but things happened and stopped it lol. Glad it did, second hand cars all the way
Hey Scotty, I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L when I step on the brake to slow down the check gages light comes on & my oil gage goes from high to low. I changed the oil pressure sensor but, still does the same thing...any advice?
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022 25K miles should I change transmission oil? Did services recently and only motor filter and rest was good.
O sortie I bought a 2017 lexis nx200 t 4 cylinder turbo automatic 80,000 miles what's your thoughts? I Jade it for a year now it has 130,000 miles no problems yet breaks tires oil changes
Scotty I just buy a 2001 camry 2.2 not v6 I live in Jamaica the car in doing 4k miles on it is in a very good condition everything original on it the only thing g I experience is that it need some shocks and and bushings it drive excellent
i have a 95 chevy 1500 silverado, 4x4 some times when running it wont hold the idle or loses power. Sometimes its running great then suddenly it starts the surging and wants to die. any ideas . Thanks
Toyota will have five new model suv and truck/ute that are ladder frame and built tough. But prices are following the demand. Gone is the $39,995 Tacoma TRD and Land Cruiser offroad spec.
I have a 2003 corolla S with 211k miles. Car still sounds new everytime i turn it on. Those vvti engines were built to last forever.
Damn son time to upgrade
you need a lexus
06 Corolla CE here with 223K on the odometer, still running like a clock. manual trans and crank windows, I'll never sell it, these things are awesome.
@@SaxaphoneMan42 not even for 5 thosand dollars
@@PennyTrader-jz9hg nah, and why would I? there isn't any vehicle 5K will put me in that will be as reliable as that thing.
I like the way he showed the Cyber Truck when saying don't buy a first run or first year of a new car or truck. Those Cyber trucks are going to be way cheaper a year from now. And there will be a bunch of used ones for sale when people realize they don't really want or need something that big.
My brother-in-law had a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville with the Buick 3800. Ran it for 330,000 miles. Finally chewed a head gasket. Transmission stilled worked fine. I'm not a big fan of GM, but that was a really good vehicle until the high mileage caught up with it. My favorite GM car was a 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. Great car until the Wisconsin Winters took it out. I just loved that LT1 Chevrolet V8. High praise from a person who isn't a fan of GM. If I found another in good shape I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I don't need 9,000 mpg. I don't drive that much and I want to be comfortable.
Toyota said that the Stout was coming out in 23, then 24 and now 25.
I’ll believe it when I see it in America.
Is it better to buy from owner? Should mechanic from garage your using check it out first?
I too have always refused to buy a “new” model of anything & wait for the “used”, $ w/a few miles too! Let someone else that makes more $ than I, pay for it!
Scotty would be curious what you think about long term reliability for the newest model Corollas. Gas models. I got a 24’ SE and wanted to know the long term reliability for the engine and transmission.
scotty what is your opinon on 81 amc eagle 4 by 4 auto trans. with straight 6 with 250,000 miles about 4000 really like the cars
What ebike was it that u recommended scotty??
I agree that it’s safe to stay away from first year vehicles…but, you can get extended warranties for long periods.
I've always had great luck with used vehicles. I look around 6 years old. If I find newer that's a plus. Vehicles that are taken care of with lower miles last longer now if it's a quality vehicle your looking for. In 2006 I bought a new Nissan titan. 37k all in. I was rear ended and the payout value 6 months after ownership was 26k. Lost 11k in 6 months. Last new vehicle I will ever own.
Just a question Scotty,is there a pickup that has a suspension that will last more than 10 years?
Hey Scotty, Not sure if you've done a show on it yet .... by Toyota is coming out with a hybrid 4Runner for 2025. What is your thought on buying a new one?
Stout is an old Toyota icon which is re-introduced.
Tough and reliable to say the least.
I like buying my vehicles new because I like to know the complete history of my vehicle !
Not a good enough reason for me to spend the extra 12 grand I would have in my particular case
With 40k miles and 4 years old
Someone has to keep the new car industry afloat ! Lol
That's why you go to Car Fax.
How long do you keep each one?
God your sense of humor makes me roll
The only reason i buy new is because ive never been a good mechanic (despite my best efforts) and every used one ive bought has been a money sink. Im losing money both ways, so at least i can still drive the new one.
It's rumored that the stout will be off the RAV4 platform. Wouldn't be new technology. Have you heard the same?
Used tacomas basically cost as much as new unless you go many years old
Even a 1995-98 will cost 12-16k. Some ppl overhype those trucks. Ohh mind you that they want that much and the engines clapped out; 200k-280k miles on the engine, but they still want top dollar cuz Toyota.
Yeah. You can find another brand cheaper and honestly better value.but if I had the money I buy it new the Toyota 😂
this is true . insane a 5 year old tacoma was 14k more than msrp .... a 2019 tacoma for 49k CAD is crazy
depends where you live. Im looking at a TRD Pro 2023 model with 1500 miles on it for 38k. It's actually cheaper than the 2024 Canyon, Colorado, Ranger and Tacoma. The base model Tacomas where I live are 46k to 51k which seems insane.
@@dang75790 The Ranger drives amazing and is cheaper. If the Tacoma doesn't blow me away im giving Ford my money. Unless the wife tells me otherwise (She loved the AT4X Canyon and wants me to buy it and hated the Ranger).
The only problem Scotty is that it won't be coming to the US, the UK or Australia. Toyota is scared they won't sell as many large utes, and pickup trucks if they do. It is for the Japanese and Thailand markets only at this stage.
I bought my 2022 F250 with the 7.3L gas engine brand new with a few dozen miles on it. I don't plan on reselling it. In the two years I've had it, I've put 5,000 miles on it and it's been great so far. It's the XLT 4x4 package with snow plow and trailer towing package and is an extended cab with 8' box.
Oh wow. My next door neighbors husband passed away last summer. He had a 2016 ford F250. With 34 thousand miles on it. Just sitting in his garage. Covered in dirt and dust. So one morning I asked the wife. Are you willing to sell it.. she just told me. I want. 40 thousand dollars for it.. cash money. I couldn’t believe it. I just walked away. !!!
It's reliable because you don't drive
@@alabaster4263and probably doesn't use it for its purpose. Pavement show queen truck .lol
If Toyota or Honda make a square -ish , Bronco type of truck I would be all over it !!!!
What’s the “best” off-road vehicle I should buy?
Bought a new Hyundai Sonata 2007 still running great other than windows failing or falling and electric door locking not working. It had a bunch of recalls. Son in law’s Kia doing the same crap!!!. Get a used Toyota Camry.
Didn’t those Toyota van have Ice makers?
I did get a reply, why not used Mazda as well as Toyota or Hondas Rick???
I’d rather buy new because I’m not getting somebody else’s sloppy seconds.
That's alright. I'll take the beaters and fix them up than support China.
I agree, so many grubby pigs that can stink up/& mistreat a car in the 1st years 👍
Sloppy seconds are more reliable than overprived junk thats new. Both will cost you your life savings.
What worries me the most is the mileage. Here in South Florida is very common for used cars to have miles rolled back. So you can never trust what you’re getting. And yes even dealers roll them back. Nah. I’ll buy new and keep. Hence why may I just ride my 2017 Jeep. Bought new and all 70k miles are mine lol
They haven't made 'mag' wheels in over 40 years.
Is a New 2000 Toyota Tundra for 6500$ a Great Deal? It has 265k miles.
As a used car buyer, I only care about Fords not turning into complete rust buckets after a decade.
2015 Kia Optima died after 4 yrs at 80k
This ongoing saga just never stops. When is the public going to wake up?
Unless I know the person selling a car, I won't buy used. No warranty, and no history is too big a gamble when spending thousands, especially with today's prices. You're just buying someone else's problem.
Well i bought a 14 year old 2007 accord v6 with 150k miles on it that used to be a rental for 5k. I changed the oil 5 times, replaced 2 tires, i fixed the cruise control, my sibling bought the wipers, i did the serpintine belt and pully job, I drove it for 3 years and sold it for what i paid, 5k. So my total cost was like less than 500 for maintinance and repairs, I put 25k miles on it roadtripping so i paid for some gas but i saw a tesla that was a rental it had 50k miles on it and was falling apart and dying. My 07 accord went to 175k and I sold it in better shape than I bought it in. I barely lost ant money
Ford Maverick sales have just gone up by around 80%. Don't think anything is killing it just yet. The Santa Cruz was supposed to kill it, but I see lots of them sitting on lots. Maybe this new Toyota will do something, maybe not. Time will tell.
Do you remember when Ford Maverick was a piece of junk 70s car that came in some of the most awful disco pastel colors.

Scotty, I have a 2003 Toyota RAV4 with the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine that is making noise after starting. I pulled the alternator, suspecting the bearings were bad, but it checked out OK @ the local alternator/starter repair/rebuild shop.
Next thing I suspect (after talking to a mechanic & will verify next week) is the water pump bearings are making the noise.
Is it worth the extra money to replace the water pump with OEM (Aisin) as opposed to other water pumps (AC Delco, Gates, ect.)?
The stout will not be at the same price point as the Maverick XL! Toyota has put an extra $5k on the new 2024 Tacomas so No there stout will not even match the Maverick in lower price!!!!
Scotty maybe I got lucky but I bought a 2011 KIA Sorento EX 4 cylinder SUV and it has over 233,000 miles and is still going. I have just replaced the normal parts that wear out on all cars.
Doesn’t the vehicle have to be produced?
Scotty Kilmer's net worth is estimated to be around $6 million......I do not believe that. He is way too smart for $6M.
I prefer to buy end-of-run models because they're fixed.
Nor a bad thought. But I bet plenty are still not.
Sometimes when they know that they are discontinuing a model, they start cutting corners.
Shocking !!!!
Yup bought the first year of the honda insight and had to replace rings at 60,000 miles. Never again will I do that and never again will I buy a Honda. Next car purchase was a 10 year old Toyota with 65,000 on it, now it's 19 years old with 115,000. I will die before this car does at the rate I drive it LOL.
60,000 miles, I ran two 1.3 liter Honda engine past 300.000 miles only replaced the spark plugs once, What you changed the oil every 10,000 miles? With veg oil Maybe
@@raymondreiff8170 Honda modified the engine design that year and it caused many of their models to experience the same issue. It resulted in a recall of all of these engines to have the rings replaced. I forced the dealership to replace the rings prior to the recall since the issue was well documented and I had the dealer perform every scheduled service to that point. I was more than ready and able to spend several tens of thousands of dollars to sue the dealership just on principal if they did not comply.
