BEAUTIFUL rendition of the Seventh!!! The full, heavy sound of Klemperer, the crisp attack and articulation of von Karajan, the fast, steady but not rushed tempo of Kleiber, the clarity of Neville Marriner.. and the precision of Kazuo Yamada's strings! TY for posting, truly wonderfulk performance!
Fuminori Shinozaki is one of the best violinists in the world! And notice how the whole section follows his lead, not just in bowing, technique and tone, but their whole body-language: THAT indeed is "Directing." (The second violins & violas obviously are following his technique, too.) This is eactly how players should "feel" the music and let their bodies participate as well; very much better than the recent tendency of ensemble players to flail about, each in his own little "style." Bravo!
My favourite Beethoven. Wolfgang Sawallisch and Nicolai Gedda on their 1970s recording of Schubert Lied shall remain one of my most treasured possessions. Thank you both.
Splendid, performance, splendid conducting, Genius conductor, high powered memory, didnt see him read a score a single second. Seems there isnt any score in front of him. too precise. unbelievable.
It's quite common for opera conductors (but usually we don't notice [them] sitting on such a stool in the orchestra pit,) but also for elderly; he will be 88 this year. He was able to walk, but not steady to stand for such a length of time. Otto Klemperer also conducted seated for the last years of his career.
Yes, the internal clarity and "definition" between the parts in this performance is superlative. I noticed that E-D# line, too; cellos and violas (*my part is viola,) double the bass-line as well (8:09-8:34.) It's quite interesting, that is a 'modulation' figure to lead into the full thematic restatement of the coda (at 8:24,) but B'ven continues it well beyond. The clarity/accuracy of the strings in particular (a great debt to Kazuo Yamada's formation on that, too,) is stunning.
I first became aware of Sawallisch in a telecast of "Missa Solemnis" for Pp. Paul VI in 1970. My mother almost died that day, it was only by God's grace that she was not killed. She came through during "Benedictus" with her good ole' VACUUM CLEANER...
*I reminded her of that incident when we were watching a video of my performance (my church choir and orchestra; we did the Gloria and Agnus Dei. I've never been able to conduct the whole work.) She remembered and just said... "What... what... WHAT AN ASSHOLE!!!" She was a trip, alright...
Oh sorry, I certainly didn't mean to ignore your comment these 4 years; but yes! Exactly! Subtly, simply, elegantly and very effectively. I enjoy his work a bit more each time I hear it. Regards!

My favourite Beethoven. Wolfgang Sawallisch and Nicolai Gedda on their 1970s recording of Schubert Lied shall remain one of my most treasured possessions. Thank you both.
His fairly dynamic movements during the time indicated above seem to be exactly those of an able concert master's, nothing more or less.
Magnifico.Genial Sawallisch.THANK YOU Soichi.Sawallisch I love this man.
Even two movements of this with a church choir is very impressive. It's not for the faint of heart! And your mother does sound like a wonderful trip.
I've enjoyed that performance on TH-cam and I can see why it would be so meaningful for you. I'm glad your mother came through! Thanks for sharing. J

*It's also the only posted full video I've seen where [he] takes the first cadence (1:59 - 2:01,) and repeat of the exposition, way cool!
i love this man next Carlos Kleiber.
Rest in peace, Maestro.

So what?
Fuminori Shinozaki, the concert master, only seems to be working as a concert master, nothing more or less so.
Oh sorry, I certainly didn't mean to ignore your comment these 4 years; but yes! Exactly! Subtly, simply, elegantly and very effectively. I enjoy his work a bit more each time I hear it. Regards!
Same but different melodies
Not really, the concertmaster is just playing his role, transforming the conductor's body language to the soloists.
