    My daily driver :) So much more than just a "pow" board. Really fun to ride steeps, pivot through the trees then rip a hard carve on groomers. Can get surfy and stylish if you want to. Lots of character, as most Jones boards seem to have, packed into this one. Hope to run into you, Kevin and David at Bear!

    My take on it. I have been riding the flagship 162w for 2 seasons and got the hovercraft in 160. Thought it’d only ride it in powder, at first I was not sure I even liked it and couldn’t figure it out. Now it’s overtaken the flagship as most used board. At first I thought it was slow edge to edge but it’s actually not. Flagship in my opinion is easier to ride even though it’s stiffer. Hovercraft is less forgiving in my view. It slays pow and is a lot of fun on groomers, holds edge in ice better than flagship. I don’t like it in really chopped up end of day snow but you can bomb straight line through it if you can, i found it hard work in those conditions. Iflagship is still better all round board, hovercraft is best straight line bombing board ever, no sketch at whatever speed you can go. Overall, flagship is a better all round board but hovercraft is more interesting and if you want something that can bomb and slay pow, it’s a no brainer you should be on this.

    I've been riding the Hovercraft for a couple seasons now paired with a set of Union Forces and absolutely love it. I have yet to be let down by it. It literally shreds in all conditions, whether it's in deep pow or iced groomers.👌

      Hey, i have ridden mine for 2 weeks - one with lots of pow and obviously it was great for that, and 1 with no pow so all on groomers, handled it all really well, can get nice and low on carves if you are brave enough. In powder you have to un-learn previous technique a bit as it floats so well, if you load up on your back foot you will have the nose p in the air, had to teach myself to stand centred again and means no back leg ache.

    TJ, Is this a pretty "catch free" board? I ride an Arbor Aframe 158 and I'm looking for a stiff board in a longer length for carving through crud. I'm thinking about getting the 164. Just wondering if this is as catch free as my Arbor and Bataleon boards. Thanks.

    Hey TJ! Just wondering how does this board compare to an ultracraft? Would an ultracraft have the same nimbleness/maneuverability in trees and ability to handle variable conditions? Would you pick one over the other? Thank you!!

  • @PlasticAdv
    @PlasticAdv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good review TJ. I am a great fan of you guys you do a really good job! Talking about the Hovercraft i own a 154 and i was able to ride it only for a day long onto groomers with worst conditions: old transformed snow plus artificial that's to say ICE expecially in the last laps of the day when the hard pack came out. Well i surfed this board without any kind of tuning except for the wax and it was such an hell traversing the groomers with the feeling that you don't have any edge control. I am waiting to give it another chance in powder and on an icy day but only after edge tuning. What is your experience? do hovercrat's edge need to be absolutely tuned? or it's just a matter of reactivity due to the spoon technology? Thanks guys

    Hey TJ. Thx for the info. Much appreciated. Would you prefer the hovercraft to the mind expander for daily use - as a one board kinda scenario? Did you have fun in the trees on the hovercraft or were you too limited? Thx!!

    • @BoardArchive
      @BoardArchive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think if I had to choose just one I would probably go with the hovercraft for the versatility. Much more fun for carving, more stability, and still floats great and does well in the trees. The Mind Expander does offer better float on very deep days but is more playful and not as solid for exploring and freeriding

      @@BoardArchive That's what I am talking about, your reaction at the end of that video. I am deciding on Orca or Mind Expander, based on your facial expression in that video, the Mind Expander is edging out a little bit..... My main use is Japow trees and I want to do some lay out carves. No parks.

    • @davidclinicaledge
      @davidclinicaledge 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      John So Mind Expander is great in trees, floats well and really nimble. Not great for carving on the groomers, especially at speed. With the small side radius it turns quickly but you have to battle it when carving at speed. It’s a fairly single purpose board. Hope that helps
