But the gag is you need Wi-Fi just to play the games. As soon as you are able to download stuff from The cloud and play it on the portal. Then it’s gonna be changed. But to have to keep playing on Wi-Fi constantly that’s a real crappy situation. We should be able to buy the game one time for PlayStation and be able to play it on the PS5 or the portal
I'm pretty they plan on you being able to stream games that you have bought digitally too. Downloading games to play on portal is never gonna happen, but I also hear they're working on a standalone handheld
In-game purchases and monthly or yearly subscription fees is turning video games into a rich man's game, and excluding a huge portion of the video game community.
$20 x 12 = $240 annually, that's 4 new games, it costs money either way. I rather wait for the games to be discounted or Free with PSN than pay for each one individually.
EXACTLY like hold on! So basically make an Ps account and pay for the highest tier, buy this thing, and boom we're set to game all those cloud games? Is it that easy? Other videos SPECIFICALLY said that you needed to link the Portal to YOUR ps5 bro? WHAT. Even when i google this it says that u need a ps5 for this mf to work
I feel like this is sonys experiment to see if they can offer basically the same thing as a steam deck. All they really have to do is focus on internal storage and cooling. They will likely make it 100% all digital though. A new traditional handheld would be awesome, but I see them doing a steam deck variant instead personally. Personally, I'm getting one Friday because I dont have a 4k tv for a ps5, as mine never broke lol. That being said, I'd love to play ps5 games and already payed for that subscription for psn. And just doom eternal on a handheld sounds awesome with a playstation controller setup
I travel a lot and my Portal is priceless! This new feature makes it even cooler. Lets me play my PS5 anywhere I go in fantastic quality. Best bang for buck I’ve gotten in a long time.
I got the anniversary edition so I could play my games off my ps5 but I'm so stoked to find out I can stream games instead of having the PS5 on rest mode all the time. But I think it's more evidence of Sony moving us away from physical copies of games.
I mean, the PS5 Pro has no disk drive from out the box and this ps portal can only play games from your PS5 or to stream so my belief will be, as from the PS6 we won't be able to play physical copies of games. It's just a hunch. You cannot expect cds to last 50 years when you can get 100 times the data on a micro memory card.
I think if you guys keep buying into all these in-game purchases and monthly fees, you're going to price yourselves out of the video game world. As long as you keep paying them, they'll keep raising prices.
Mine was collecting dust until I heard all the rave. I upgraded my ps plus tier over BF sale and fired up the portal. I think its a bit over hyped, you are still tied down to specific games and I wasnt able to find one that peaked my mobile gaming interest. A better situation would be if I was able to play my digitally purchased games. Then the portal would be closer to relevance.
That might be the selling point I’ve been waiting for. Both for the Portal, and the PS+ tier I’ve been eyeballing for Twisted Metal local multiplayer once again. Not related at all, but I was hoping you (and DrMod) could do a video on how to enjoy the old rock band games. I tried recently with my kids and was disappointed to see more than half my song list wiped out due to licensing issues.
Got it the day it dropped and it wouldn’t stay connected so a whole year it was a waste for me. It plays better now streaming but connecting to my ps5 it disconnects I don’t know how to fix that
The recommended speed for 1080p 60fps, is a solid 15Mbps. So I would say have at least twice that on a fairly uncongested network to have a good connection.

I seriously highly doubt we will ever get another stand alone handheld from Playstation ever again and here's why if the portal does good for them they'll most likely keep the monthly/yearly subscription wifi required in order to play games because hey its money and yall bought it haha and if it does poorly in sales they won't attempt another Vita situation it's just that simple as we are moving into an all digital gaming era

It would have to be a completely new device. There’s no way for storage let alone a cooling fan powerful enough for downloaded games.

This decide has no processing power so unfortunately that wouldn’t be possible. BUT, I think this is what we will see with future devices
Just make a dock with a gpu and ssd et voilà!
If that thing has enough RAM in it to preload these games, in order for them to play without lag or latency, then they planned this from the start...
I don't think it has any RAM does it? Not for playing games anyway. It doesn't play them itself. It just streams them.
