Thanks for the parallel processing mention. It's something I always use and share with our students. Often with any type of bass element, in Ableton, I'll use Effects Rack split into multiple paths and name them things like LoLo Bzzzzt, Fuzz, Grit or whatever to describe their function and feeling. Also don't forget that once you apply the parallel distortion, you can roll lows off post distortion/fuzz/overdrive as not to create potential phasing conflicts. Feel free to apply stereo modulation effects to your high passed dirt channel like phasor/chorus or even reverb, while keeping your sub clean, steady and in mono.
Thanks for the video man super helpful. My kryptonite is when my 808 pattern has a lot of range, making the lower and high 808s hit consistently is tough
Looks like I need to get decapitator I have been struggling with a weakening in the 30-50hz frequency region when adding odd order upper harmonics. Thanks for the heads up
Brilliant tips as always! Never thought about the fact that adding distortion/saturation can actually squash the sub frequency of the bass. Great to know that! Will be trying the 2 separate mixer tracks for sure! How did you get the overlay on Pro-Q btw? Just have them routed to the same mixer to check frequency overlap, or is there an overlay setting within Pro-Q that I'm missing? Lol.
I think he's using the spectrum analyzer feature. It can be customized via the analyzer panel, which pops up automatically when you hover above the analyzer button in the bottom bar of PRO-Q. I could be completely wrong tho. Incredible feature either way.
@@emptytombprod Oh damn! Seeing all instances would be awesome! But yeah now that I think about it it may be the spectrum analyzer. I believe that's what I've used before when mastering with pink noise. I believe you have to Side chain it for that, though. If I am thinking about the right thing that is. Lol.
It makes me smile to see you throwing in more and more of your comedic genius. Learning invaluable info AND laughing out loud along the way? TAKE MY VIEW AND LIKE!
I think it was after trying to use a few 808 samples that I just said f it and learned the basics to do it on serum. Different tools for different artists i guess
@@chiefblanko i figure by the time you're like "this is a good sample, but it needs more midrange, so i'll add some distortion; also the tail is a little long, so i'll adjust the volume envelope... now i'll just saturate the transient to give it some thwack, and voila"... you've basically done all the work to synthesize your own anyway, and it's not clear that browsing through your sample library to find the right 808 saved you any time
Does anyone know how to see a spectrum represented for multiple instruments (like at 2:01) in a free analyzer like SPAN? Being able to see the crossovers of specified elements would be a huge help to me
So im using the lunch metro and Pierre kits. And for some reason even when I use 808s that fit good in the eq sections, I just can't get them to sound tuned or good. They're usually all in C. Do I have to tune them to my root note? I tried that too and it still just sounds off. Some beats sound great and others I just can't seem to get the 808s to work with my melody
No kidding I have some 808s in my library that are like 10 second samples, imagine just dropping a 10 sec bass note in the beat without reshaping it smh
If you watch closely, this channel is actually a gym time lapse but Navie uses music to distract us from that. Watch the first video and check those biceps now. Thumbs up if Navie should do a workout video for us lool.
I always use 808-s in serum or in flex, I think 808s in a synth are way more handy when it comes to mixing and you can change it any time, what's your opinion?
Be honest, some of you would get excited hearing this @3:26
Lol no! Well if the room is dark. 12 midnight and i have a blind fold on. Maybe. Haha
I've been trying to hear that for years...those grandmas are pickier than you would think 😂
Hey man don't kink shame. 🤣🤣
ollolo
Go visit your grandma people! You'll miss her
Bro. The thick & juicy context had be laughing hard lol 😂
That gym part was amazing lol
This was a really helpful vid Navie!
Glad to help my friend
I like that you add a lil humor in these tutorials. You're not trying too hard and it helps elaborating the point your making. Keep it up lol

Legendary as always 🙏🏽
Thank you my young wizard
good tips, i feel like you learn these with experience over time the longer you produce
Absolutely, tis the way it works

You're welcome my friend
I think they do a Black Friday sale. I was gonna pick it up then myself. Shit is too expensive otherwise for me haha
Decap is very good. Also i can highly recommend Fab Filter Saturn. This is a serious game changer.
Had it for more than half a year but it was fully incompatible with my PC 😂 Fast Dist Bus GANG
yessssss, needed this
yeeeeusssssss
@@NavieD yeah tip 3 opened my eyes about shortening the 808 ringing out, still wish i could figure out why i can only use that 1 tab on DirectWave
Another perfect video. Thankyou dad x

0:41 i only clicked the like button because you ended it with "No I won't" 😂😂😂
Bless up 🔝⭐
Fam I'm over here dead "looking thick and juicy" 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I'm curious now too. I think it allows you to see all instances of PRO-Q you have in session overlayed in a different color.

Yeah there is an analyzer feature in Pro-Q that shows you what your other instances of Pro-Q are "hearing"
This video was dope! Figured I’d show some love since your tutorials are ALWAYS fantastic and extremely high quality
Loved the course. And still as always, loving your TH-cam content. Thanks Navie 🙏
Idk bro I paid for my last two vacations looking juicy at the old folks home

Great video! Honestly i had no idea I had these issues on projects in the past until you showed me. It was a couple AHA! Moments of I knew I felt off!
Wow this have me thinking about my 808s. Now! Im gonna have to check your ideas out.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
was not expecting the grandma. “I have first dibs” 💀😂
great info, been trying to mix my 808s better and better slowly figuring it out lmk
I hope this helped my friend
Low key Grandma's first dib would be a dope producer tag😂
Hahaha I like the way you think
The gym explanation had me rolling 😂🤣
I hope it made sense!
Great Video Thank You 🙏
Thank you Prynce!
Your analogies always crack me up XD
I hope they make sense too!
Ow totally, if i don't pick the right 808 the grannies are gonna lust after my body....i got it bro!

Great video. Thanks for making this even when u are sick. Too much 808s got u fatigued i see. Get better homie.
Thank you navie ! You're a genius bro 🤟🏿
Im definitely watching all your videos from now on
Glad to have you on board!
How about you upload your Bicep workout.
0:45 got me excited rq
😘
thank you
Thank you for watching!
using 808 samples sounds like a lot more work than synthesizing your own
I suppose this video is for those who are unfamiliar with synthesizing their own

I feel like a lot of people didnt catch that neuter joke you slid in there 🤣 pure gold
Hahaha thank you Jake! It was a quick and subtle one, but I am glad someone caught it
I love how you’re funny without it being intrusive on the video
Haha dope video😁👍
Thank you Sepi!
thank you for this nice sweater brodie
Thank you thank you
Can’t finish my beats bc my 808s never sound good enough and it’s starting to throw me off bc all the beats have so much potential
after every next video u describe better and better
I hate when i have my root note at like A# and i have to pitch shift the loop to make the 808 sound good
Well explained u gain a subcriptor!!
Happy to have you on board Jose!
THE "NO I WON'T" YOOOO I SCREAMED YO LOL!!!!!!
mr navie d, why do you use the channel rack to play the sample instead of the playlist? is there a difference?
Because I use a sampler, I rarely use raw loops and leave them as they are. Check out my video on the 3 levels of sampling for a full explanation
Dang Navie, really needed that kiss 😔
Hey great video. Where are you from?
3:32 i laught fuckin tears while watching this
Grannies love hotboyz too

ty bro i was wondering when the best time to use distorted 808s i was using them almost all the time no wonder it sounded off lol
What do you think of Camel Crusher ?
i clicked the like button.
Would camelcrusher work as an alternative for decapitator?
do it as you want, never mind
I feel happy when Davie N uploads
bruh i just got a Navie D advert in this video

I have definitely heard beats like this. It gets exhausting!
what preset do you use for decapitator on the 808s?
Some 808 have the kick drum sound layered with it. Does that make a difference in mixing them. If so how do you mix it
Guess if I don’t watch the vid my 808s gonna end up like my racist grandma, WEAK and HORRIBLE
I literally was just saying my 808 sounds bad and I saw this video
Hahah I hope this helps
what is going on with your arms looking like popeye.
eq before or after distortion?

"distortion can at times neuter your 808s" lmao
