  • Shot on 5/30/2017. 2572 leading 5 other units, train had 4 cars at 225 and 5 cars at Horseshoe Curve. I believe only the 2572 was online. A thunderstorm is rolling in at Horseshoe Curve

If there was ever a horror movie made about a killer train, that would be the perfect sound that it's coming.

Great video! That is a sad sound to hear, as this howling noise (known as the EMD Turbo Howl) is a bad sign of a turbocharger about to call it quits on an EMD 710 Engine, this has been happening for SD70ACCs and SD70M-2s and SD70ACes for a while now, hopefully this won't be an issue in the future, regardless of the locomotive dying, the sound is a heavenly noise to hear, it is very rare, and to be cherished, you are lucky to hear that, wonderful video man! It is still hearable today from the SD70 rebuilds into SD70ACCs

Not a turbo howl. It’s the main generator howling.

I bet the people at horseshoe curve we’re like what the heck is that noise when they heard it out in the distance.

So loud it almost drowns out the horns! I’d say it’s the fans, but they’re not typically THAT loud I don’t think, maybe there’s a problem with bearings?
Either way it’s very interesting and eerie sounding

Best sound hearing that at the Horseshoe. Won't hear that engine again. NS retired it. Not exactly sure what the noise is

@@NS6677 hmmmm, I’m hearing some say that when locomotives howl like this it’s an out of balance turbo, deposits maybe cause it, and thus the turbo vibrates like crazy.
Makes sense I guess, reminds me when I’d use my Dremel with a cutting disc, if I set the rpm too high, it’d vibrate like crazy and make an awful and loud noise.

Amazing sound! Feel bad for the crew though, having to sit in the thing for 12 hours while it does it.

Usually only sounds that open the throttle was wide open. And it didn't last too long with 5 cars! Haha.

Something sounds wrong with the fans for the turbo, though can't be sure. It's a familiar sound for locos with an EMD710.

Must be a problem with the turbo charger, or motor fans! What a short freight train!

Where I'm standing, you wouldn't be seeing much. Couple of trees in the way. I always stand on the embankment. Best place for Videos and Pictures. No where to step back further without being on a big dirt hill. I mainly take stills and video is my secondary thing.
