- It might look like, well, garbage, but there’s an art to Rochester’s infamous garbage plate. It starts off with sides-an impossible choice of french fries, home fries, macaroni salad or beans. Next comes the meat, hotdogs, hamburgers or cheeseburgers. And finally, the whole shebang is topped off with mustard, onions, ketchup and hot sauce. If you’ve got the guts for it, no one does it better than Nick Tahou Hots. They’ve been perfecting the marvelous mess for the past three generations.

The story behind it is that the garbage plate was originally what they fed to homeless people which was made out of food that was either going bad, or they had too much of. Turns out it's really delicious when done properly so they started selling it

Everytime I think of this video I think that they should release a video where the guy they were interviewing actually gets to finish his story with no interruptions. Hopefully they at least got/still have an audio recording of the full story. I know that they no longer post on this channel or make videos in general but it's still something I think about

I made a fake garbage plate once, got a frozen burger patty, made some of my own macaroni salad, and used some powdered IKEA gravy. Ultimately was pretty good, would love to eat the real thing!

@The Darkner Supreme The "Feeding the poor" was the reason the Garbage Plate exists in first place. It is part of the history of the restaurant, and talking about it was completely in context with the situation.
The narrator was a complete ass, that's what happened.

From the amount of fat and lack of any fresh ingredients I guess it would not exactly be "gourmet" but the aformentioned mass of grease should make the eating experience at least worthwhile and when the price is good i guess it would be a nice stop after a night out drunk or for when you are short on cash and still want to eat out.

For a channel that usually helps us appreciate unique and unusual lifestyle and food choices, and shine spotlight on unique small businesses I'm surprised how disrespectful this video is to the restaurant and how negative it is.

No idea why, but Alex Tahou's voice and general appearance gives me "fallout 4 NPC" vibes. By no means do I mean any disrespect, the man and his family are legendary, and I love that he's continuing his family business and still seems to have a lot of love for what he does.
They need to revisit this place, let the man compete his story, give him his respect and give us the peace of mind from that nasty cutoff!
I would've liked to know more about the story of his dad feeding the people who didn't have money. Like, did he feed them for free or did he mean for cheap? It would be really nice and very sweet of him to feed people with no money. That's what human and life is about in my opinion, doing what you can for others who don't have anything. Either way, it's still nice of him.

Chef from NY here, went upstate for school and was told I HAD to try one of these. My doubts were high but alas I was higher and agreed. Let me tell you this plate is a thing of beauty. The balance of textures, flavors & alcohol absorption is spot on. Made me a believer and it’s cool to see it get some love! Cheers everyone, one mans trash is truly another mans dinner enjoy.
