    To get even a receptionist job nowadays they want you to have a bachelors degree. It’s ridiculous! A degree is just a piece of paper. I’ve met people that have MBA’s and were the dumbest people I’ve worked with.

    The fact that a former MARSOC (he said Marine Special Forces, which technically isn't the correct term. The only special forces are Green Berets and the rest are special operations) person is calling into the show and asking if he can lie, is super suspicious. I highly doubt he was military and if he was, he was definitely not MARSOC. I mean who does that. A soldier of any branch, especially one that is infantry, would never call and ask if they should lie about a degree so they can get a job. Pathetic.

    • @sal5604
      @sal5604 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Agreed, that is definitely showing a lack of integrity. All branches (even Coasties and Space Force) teach some level of this and drive it so far into your brain that it becomes second nature to some.

      Suppose 500 people apply for a job. 200 of the 500 applicants have a degree. Are you going to look at all 500 applications, or will you narrow it down to the 200 before doing further analysis? That's the reason so many companies require a degree; it provides an easy way to narrow down a big crowd of applicants without being unacceptably arbitrary. The degree is often more of a filtering tool than an actual requirement of the job duties.

    • @trent797

I know exactly ONE person who was in the Seal Teams. One of the most upright, upstanding, no-BS people I know. He would rather chew his arm off than to do something where someone would question his integrity.
    My guess? This caller "embellished" his background for the call.
    Dave is right - lying on your job application is a sure way to get fired in most organizations. That said, some jobs require a degree, engineer for example.

      Let's not hang your hat on a single person you know who has been in active service. I have a couple friends myself who have had combat roles as well and they would more likely take the "Do what you gotta do" angle over an impenetrable aura of integrity.
      Lying about a degree or even a background you don't have is a recipe for trouble, but being completely and 100% honest on your resume is guaranteed to lead you where your talents will subsequently be squandered. As with all things in this world, the best thing is somewhere in the middle.
