    I think it's really important for people to know that the Chasm is now its own district and that it has been closed. It's currently a laisse faire esque slum that people can build in without the fear of excessive taxation or persecution because they want to encourage people to build there. This is in the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide along with an updated map that DM's can use for reference.

    My party decided to go there in LMoP. That was my first time realizing I could tell my friends that I was just not prepared for it (and couldn't find anything substantial online). So, being good friends, they skipped it and went to Thundertree directly
    I'm glad this exists for new (and experienced) DMs to use when they run into a similar situation

    My girlfriend and I have been playing the dragon of icespire peak from some months now (I'm the DM) and she recently went to explore the city of neverwinter, luckily I had read a bit of the lore, but as you may know neverwinter is so full of lore (yet none of it technically appears in the adventure) that it was severely overwhelming. Thankfully I managed to improvise a really fun encounter in the docks, were a nobleman was yelling at a ship's captain because his goods (that the captain was commissioned for) were stolen! This lead to a very fun investigation of the crew and the chase of Jerry the mysterious amd newest crew member, who hid some stuff in his quarters including a skull in a black cloth triangle (Myrkul's symbol)
    Eventually she found Jerry who was taking the goods into the high road wanting to meet with one of Myrkul's cultists... Anyways, the nobleman was actually one of the cultists and he and Jerry were working together in order to hide from the captain and everyone else some secret cargo including some very special gems that would be used to perform a ritual in the following quests after TDOIP (storm Lord's wrath and the following two supplements)
    The giant coffin like chest in wich the gems were hidden was being carried by 7 skeletons who were summoned by Jerry (I used the bandit captain stat block for him) it was an easy encounter but a really fun one nonetheless
    The gems are homebrew items I made that work as a Spellcasting focus for anyone who's holding them AND they can replace any specific material components (for example the diamond in a revivify spell), but after being used that way the stones will loose their magic and will become regular gems (sellable for 15 GP) or course you could change that, but it worked really well for us
    When she tried to make the nobleman apologize to the captain, she noticed he had Mykul's symbol tattooed on him, and found out about his plan.
    After some interrogation, the nobleman had his life taken away from him by Mykul's own hand, who possessed him, made a speech and then made him age unnaturally fast in front of the party (just to intimidate them, and to stop them from getting a lot of info)
    This was probably one of my favorite moments in the campaign just yet and I'm really proud of me because this is my first ever campaign and I loved how everything turned out. Thank you for this video, I will definitely be using this info for more neverwinter encounters in the future :D

    • @luistestart135
      @luistestart135 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Dang, got here too late for the giveaway. This looks really awesome - in my home campaign, my player was pressed into service by Lord Nevermember to help hunt down any potential heirs, as he (my player) had a dark past and was Wanted in the southern Sword Coast. Lord Nevermember, in that campaign, is building up power to compete with the Lord's Alliance; he's a bit peeved at his treatment by them in the recent past while he was a member. This plays into why he is putting resources into helping Leilon (and to a lesser extent Phandalin) rebuild in the DoIP and Leilon tro adventures.

    Another great video! Those random urban encounters are amazing though!
    I'm running for my fiancee and she's never expressed interest in checking out Neverwinter, which I guess means I'm lucky--even though I looked up a good deal of information about it just in case. It's particularly fascinating that Neverember was disgraced and exiled from Waterdeep (Dragon Heist is specifically caused by his legendary embezzlements) and then just moved north and started over.
    I added hints at that awkward situation to my game (mostly for myself, haha) by including a pair of betrothed nobles, one from Neverwinter and one from Waterdeep, as guests at Falcon's Lodge. I had them tag along when Falcon led them to the Logger's Camp. I figured when the Ankhegs showed up, one could be put into danger. This way the PC could, at least indirectly, influence the relations between the two rival cities-states (for the better or worse).

I've known they wanted to go there for some time, so I have prepared a _long_ document that includes quests, NPCs, shops, taverns, notable locations, etc., all tailored to our campaign and character backstories. But I would've found it harder without Bob's _Urban Encounters for Neverwinter_ which I've used as an inspiration for many of the starting points of quests I've planned. So, thank you Bob! Oh, and if anyone is interested, I'm happy to share any details of my Neverwinter City plans that could be translated to other DM's campaigns. Just let me know!

    Began planning to run LMOP and TDOIP combined, with not a lot of info on Neverwinter, I decided to make the Eruption of Mt. Hotenow have happened 3 months ago.
    The mines and Phandalin are booming because of the refugee population and need for materials to rebuild the destroyed city which is under martial law.
    A steward from high ranking nobility has taken power over the city since the destruction of the royal residence and presumed death of the royal family.
    Now that rescue is done and they have begun rebuilding the city; entry is restricted to authorized construction personnel.
    The Rockseeker Brothers helped with rescue/rebuild during the day and spent nights looking for evidence regarding a family story about once owning a magic mine, in the ruins of city hall of records, libraries, and the college geology and history departments.
    Many Drow escaped the underdark via the new chasm (which destroyed a drow settlement far beneath the city when it formed) in the south eastern section of the city (including the Black Spider?)
    The Eruption made a few surviving dragons that called Mt. Hotenow home, flee to the surrounding areas of Neverwinter Wood and the Sword Mountains.
    The Eruption displaced Many mountain Orcs as did the Dragons taking over the Sword Mountains, they gathered in Neverwinter wood and some came together under King Grol to become the Cragmaws, some formed a cult, but both see an opportunity to claim power in the region as the destruction of Neverwinter has disrupted the military stationed there that patrolled the surrounding area, high road, Triboar Trail and small towns nearby.

  • @dmDerZorn
    @dmDerZorn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sooo... this 'supplement' has ONE page of Neverwinter history in it, the rest is generic city adventure ?
    And you're - at least in this video - completely ignoring the elephant in the room... the friggin chasm that's made Neverwinter practically uninhabitable after the catastrophy ?!
    They built a wall around that to protect them from what's coming from there. Well, it's sealed now. So it's just a hole, right ?
    But hey. Neverwinter got inns and grafitti.

    • @BobWorldBuilder
      @BobWorldBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly! This supplement is titled “Urban Encounters for Neverwinter,” and it’s purpose stated in the doc is to provide fun encounters for the city.
      The lore summary mostly excludes the chasm because it has been sealed for decades and is no longer relevant to Neverwintans or adventurers coming here on a brief trip from Phandalin.
      Hopefully that clears up any misconceptions about the supplement :)

    • @ArmitageShanksuk
      @ArmitageShanksuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BobWorldBuilder I disagree! Having read somewhere that the chasm was concreted over and that people don't really want to live on top of it anymore gave me two great ideas for it!
      The first idea is that the entire district around the chasm is the "poor quarter", only those desparate enough will buy/rent a house on top of/around the chasm district, potentially even leaving room for an unscrupulous landlord plot device. Some conniving Lord that wants to buy up all the property around the chasm.
      The second idea was to lean into Lord Neverembers drive to revilatise the North - have the chasm be the cities huuuge marketplace ala Waukeens Promenade from BG 2.

    I'm actually weaving my own D&D Campaign, weaving 4th edition Neverwinter Adventures as a prequel to LMOP, DOIP, into Tyranny of Dragons. The party is a covert ops force under command of one of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep. Primarily to spy on and undermine Lord Protector Nevermember (a keep your friends close, your enemies closer thing), also make contact with the Sons of Alagondar, to unify them and form a support network.
    It is known to the Lords Alliance that Neverember has his own autocratic/imperialist goals. The Lords Alliance is not yet ready to pull the plug on Neverember because of his popularity. They want to keep him more of a puppet (lesser of two evils). The party is to work to get in Neverember's good graces (but covertly work against him with the rebel groups). The party will also encounter The Cult of the Dragon & Red Wizards and begin to gather early clues as to what they are up to in Neverwinter. Rather than just have information fed to them in HoTDQ & RoT, they will build their knowledge over time through all of the modules prior to HoTDQ. So when the first formal Councilmeeting is held, they can report.
    I love the City of NeverWinter. It creates so much opportunity to add more geo-political intrigue, covert operations, political strategy to my Campaign. Almost a cold war scenario between WaterDeep an Neverwinter. The Lord's Alliance will want to keep Neverwinter in it's orbit and not see Neverwinter under Neverember create it's own empire.
    This is to better have a reason that Rockseeker Mining Company to seek out the adventurers to lead into my whole LMOP ->- DOIP - Storm Lord's Wrath - Sleeping Dragon's Wake - Tyranny of Dragons. I hope to create an immersive campaign. Anyway, wish me luck.

    I know it''s pretty common to use random fantasy art images for D&D purposes, I do it all the time so no judgement here. It is kind of funny though when you accidently choose a conflicting image though.
    The image you choose for Waylen the priest of Oghma is the official character art for Laeral Silverhand. One of the Seven Sisters, Chosen of Mystra, Partner of Khelben Arunson (Blackstaff), and I believe at this time in the late 15th century the current Open Lord of Waterdeep. She's kind of a big deal lol.

    My character in my group's Curse of Strahd campaign is the heir to Neverwinter and has been trying to make an alliance with Barovia. Unfortunately things went south and now the Count wants Zelda dead but is frustrated that she keeps surviving encounters and coming back from the dead. Additionally she is traveling with Alexander Von Roeyen (Zarovich), Strahd's second and youngest brother. Strahd is not going to like it once he finds out Zelda and Alexander are close friends and planning on making Alexander king once we defeat Strahd. This is seriously turning into a Game of Thrones power play between Strahd and the party.

Now, on behalf of the Emerald Enclave, Reidoth has hired “the Negotiators” to locate a couple of druids (twin sisters) that have gone missing in Icewind Dale. He will accompany them as far as Neverwinter, sharing history about the Northern Sword Coast along the way. By the time they have reached Bryn Shander, they will have been exposed to some interesting background lore that might prove useful in their next adventure.
