Peak childhood vibes with this game
I love how Krang's theme is a sped up version of his cartoon theme.
What you might notice in the manual is that the summary mentions Shredder falling into a garbage truck like in the movie. I found that odd as a kid but later I learned that back then U.S. manuals of Japanese games were written by third party companies who often had little to no communication with the developers. It's hard to imagine this now but back then it's how it was done. I'm guessing whoever's wrote it was just going on what they knew about TMNT which may not have been much.

I love how huge the cars are in the parking garage compared to the turtles and the foot soldiers lol. I've never really noticed that before...
How can I say no to TMNT. This game definitely was every young boys dream come true when it came out. Now it’s really repetitive to where I can’t play it for very long, but back then it was all cowabunga! Like peanut-butter & anchovy pizza! 🐟 🍕
The franchise needs to reintroduce Tora and Shogun. This is the only place they've ever appeared.
This is by far one of my favorite TMNT games I think 2&3 we're the only ones who were able to hit that addictive sweet spot.
I played this game every day after school in 2nd grade
I like how the purple spear throwing foot soldiers immediately are holding another spear after throwing the one they had.
It was kinda funny in the pilot episode when Shredder and Krang argue at the end: "The Shredder takes orders from no one!" "We shall see, Oroku Saki," using his real name as a bitch-please.
One of the best ports for the NES in my book

power move not depleting energy made it sole form of attack
One of the three games of my childhood. Even the teenage years to a point...Beat it more times that I can count. I adored the select screen music and that of the final level in the Technodrome. Keep the fun and relaxing (also for us !) work, Mike.

My parents got me this for xmas when it came out. My uncle played with me and he was all excited when we beat rocksteady, and I'm like dude this is just the first level lol

Growing up I never had TMNT2, i had 1 and 3, but i rented part 2 alot as a kid
to do the special attack without failing, you need to press Jump than Attack really fast not together.
This was a fantastic conversion of the arcade game. I never owned it but I rented it all the time.
I played the Genesis TMNT game all the time... used to do the slide move (A, then B, then C, I think) all the time and built up a callous on my thumb sliding it across the buttons that way haha!
Raph apparently has a bigger hit box to hit enemies stronger than all the other turtles. Not sure why. So good pick
At least Ralph didn't completely get screwed like in the first Turtles game...

In TMNT 2003 run of the turtles Leonardo did cut Shedder's head clean off, but then it was revealed that he was an Utron (Krang's Race but a civilization of them). It was honestly the best run of TMNT in terms of story. Image comics and Peter Laird foresaw its production and it is worth checking out.
I always though that the port of Contra on the nes looked and played better than the arcade version of Contra
I remember this game had a lot of "flashing" and watching this, it brings back memories of wondering what the fuck that was. Something something, memory full.

Raphael seems like the toughest character to play as because his range is so short.

I'm glad this port knew it would lack stuff from the arcade version. But they extended the stages as well as add in new bosses. The changes kinda helped it stand out. This still isn't TMNT IV: Turtles in Time good but it's still decent enough. I really enjoyed TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection myself.
My favoriteTurtle to play is is Mikey cuz somehow I can control his Nunchukus (Idk the actual spelling but I know it's fukn weird lol,) better than the other weapons. Tho the others are cool to play.
It's be nice if the bosses had on-screen life meters.
If you think about it it’s more weird that the Ninja Turtles don’t use their weapons. Its pretty much The Three Stooges but the stooges are ninjas who don’t use their weapons.
I can't wait for the TMNT Cowabonga Collection to come out this year.

Still remember going to toysrus with my dad during Xmas break to buy this. We got pizza afterwards.
Mike, regarding that revisit to Power Blade 2 you did later on in this stream, I've got a tip to make it more tolerable for if you ever decide to try it again (for whatever reason). Start with Stage 3, and kill the mini boss. You have to go through a door in the third room that looks like it's part of the background (the door in Stage 1 was right where you kept dying).
These optional mini bosses are what drop the power suits you can use, NOT the actual stage bosses. The suit from Stage 3 is a ridiculously useful flight suit that allows you to zoom through most rooms like they're nothing (Stage 2's suit is an also useful diving suit for underwater sections). Unfortunately, the game is also jam packed with slow autoscrollers, and the flight suit only helps with the ones where the scrolling isn't forced.
1988? The first NES game came out in 1989. The original arcade game also came out in 1989. This game came out toward the end of 1991.
Well, I guess they realized it was a bad idea to have a Domino's Pizza guy in the movie, and specifically to reference their 30-minute guarantee which was revealed to have caused or contributed to a lot of traffic fatalities and so switched over to Pizza Hut, which would, of course, had been their partner in that "Coming Out Of Their Shells" live show thing.

One thing I always appreciated about this game too is a lot of the soundtrack in this game has moments of "Heroes in a half shell!" The technodrome level music still gives me chills. Krang's and Shredder's theme's are iconic and Shredder's was always badass. I really hope in the new TMNT Shredder's Revenge game has remixes of Krang's, Shredder's, and the Technodrome's music.
The jump kick and the A+B are the only atracks worth using. You regular attack is a detriment to ur health.

That was a College Humor thing in which they used their weapons. I wanted to make a game that was kind of based on the comic book, but combining that with the capabilities that Shredder had because of his alliance with Krang, in which you'd start out fighting that gang from the first issue, then the robotic Foot Soldiers, etc. and eventually the elite human Foot Soldiers, Shredder, etc.
All the enemies weapons seem real now in real life lol

Turtles in time was good too
Somehow all this time, I thought the A+B attack took a point of life. I definitely made this harder than it had to be growing up.
Reshelled was the “upgrade” of Turtles in Time released on Xbox 360 and PS3. I had gotten so used to the SNES port that I forgot the arcade version, which is what Reshelled is, had fewer stages. It was very disappointing.

It is been so many years since I've played this game but nonetheless I still love it. Stop me if I'm wrong but if you keep going after the fake Shredder, don't you get an extra point for every time for beating him, because he keeps respawning? That way you could get an extra life right?

Lot of memories with this game, we played this shit to death back in the day, still remember the 'cat code' as we liked to call it that gave you 9 lives, A,B,A,C,A,B,B if i remember correctly, its rather pointless tho when you know the special move pressing A and B together so you can easily beat the game with anyone using that move alone.
Man.. when this came out it was like finally!!! The tmnt game we wanted! Not whatever b.s. that first game was. Would much rather play the first one now though. Once you know where to go and what to do it’s actually really fun.
I played this game at least 100 times through just so I could see shredder when I was like 7.

Grew up having to rent games like this and loved it, loved going to the rental place. Show nephews my full collection of roms/hacks/translations/all the games you could ever play. Don't even look twice. I fk'in hate fortnite.

I used to rent this game an play it with my cousin. I loved it. Asked for it for Xmas. But was sold out an the store clerk told my parents battletoads was better. Was ok until the 3rd stage. I think I played that so much I could make it to level 8 or something. Fucking game I wanted a beat em up.
