Luz obviously called Hunter a "bad, but sad boy" because she felt sympathy for him, but Eda clearly or rather probably misinterpreted her insensitive poor choice of words about her description of Hunter A.K.A. the Golden Guard as a way of mocking him.

It hurts now even more knowing: First, he is literally 16, like, he's just a kid being chased by adults because he just happens to be in Belos' side 'cause, you gessed it, he had no other choice in life. Second, he doesn't even know he's been re built probably docens of times and it's been used as an scape goat and a living weapon. And now that I've gown attached to him, the way he says "why dooes everyone say that?" it's heart breaking, kid thinks he's got nothing and no one but himself

I actually did see this episode as being too harsh towards Hunter, I mean, even his Uncle kind of threw a little slander at him. The must’ve been some kind of symbolism behind it but I could just be over analyzing things. 🤧
yeah its like if you were to analyze i took this as how hunters family treated him before they got ruined by wild magic; after all his uncle is abusive towards him and lots of people in the emperors coven. he always tries to help the emperor but when he doesnt meet expectations or says something wrong he always gets hurt :( poor hunter

Okay, Eda and the rest of the gang don't have to like him but would it kill them to be even a little nice to Hunter? He doesn't deserve that mockery,especially with how Belos treats him. Plus Hunter's voice isn't annoying,it's sweet and charming.
I know I'm late to replying to this, but to give Eda and King some slack, they're most likely treating him that way due to how he acted in Separate Tides. Hunter is an abused child who deserves people in his life that love him, but none of the others have seen that side of Hunter like we have as the audience. I'm hopeful they'll all come around when he eventually decides to change sides

Just because I understand why someone does something,that doesn't that I have to agree with it or like it. Again, I understand why they acted this way in this episode and I do hope things work out for Hunter in a positive way
i mean he is belos' right hand man. belos, the one who tried catch and eventually kill eda. the one who stole her portal, fought luz, and emotionally abused her sister. he also wasn't exactly nice to her and luz in separate tides and he threatened to kill king. she and the others don't know belos abuses hunter too- they only know that he is an enemy (and a pretty smart and powerful one even if he doesn't have magic) and wouldn't hesitate to hurt them. i mean, he has threatened to multiple times. i think they're justified in not being nice to him, because he hasn't exactly done anything to deserve kindness only the opposite (both by association and his own actions).
i genuinely like hunter as a character btw

It’s just fandom, people usually like to explore noncanon ships because it can be fun to think about different dynamics and storytelling possibilities. Most HunterXLuz shippers I’ve seen are also Lumity shippers so they aren’t doing it to say that Lumity is a bad ship. It’s just for fun.

This made me realize how much I miss this show.
I get Hunter works for the bad guy and all, but he so doesn't deserve this. Sure, Eda, King, and Amity didn't have be nice to him, but they didn't have to be mean to him either. It's like Dipper did with Pacifica before the latter reformed, this is one of those two wrongs don't make a right things.

I really hated how weak Hunter was in this episode. He was strong and superior in the other two episodes and yet in this one he gets captured so easily, gets made fun of, and I highly doubt that Eda, King, or even Amity would help send him on his redemption arc. Let’s be honest, he’s gonna be redeemed but it certainly won’t be because of those three who made fun of him.

So since Eda Clawthorne deeply hates Hunter since he's Emperor Belos' right-hand man, then why didn't she simply kill him once he was restrained by Amity's Abomination Goo? After all, Eda has no problem with murdering her enemies, especially those who choose to mess with either her or those closest to her.

A lot of people here are feeling sympathetic toward Hunter, and I don’t blame them. But let’s not forget that he also threatened to boil Luz and Eda alive, and also used King as a hostage. Plus he looked ready to shoot Luz in the back to secure the Palismens for Belos. I’m not saying Hunter is bad, but the Owl House crew does have a right to be suspicious of him.

And seeing this entire episode knowing what Hunter has been troughg changes the way we see him.
