For anyone here looking these up for a Hilux Surf (n185) these work! There's a caveat though, the Surf roof track channels are wider than 4runner roof track channels. So, you either need to make track nuts that fit, with a threaded hole in the center for your Sherpa to interface with OR you need to find a set of roof tracks off of a 3rd gen 4runner. Making the track nuts is easy, you can take some cheap flat stock aluminum and cut some squares then drill and tap a hole with a drill press. I got lucky and found someone local who had a whole roof system off a totaled 4runner. The only other thing to consider is if you have the power mirror/ spoiler on your rear hatch. If that's the case, you'll have to cut the Sherpa side plates or your spoiler will interfere with the rack when you open the rear hatch. This was easy to do with some diablo blades and a jigsaw. Make a template, draw your cut line, score it with a dremel, make your cut, sand and repaint. Good luck 🤙 Shameless plug @re.trd I'll have pics up and some short videos showing the differences
Thanks for the heads up regarding the wider roof rails on a Surf! I just installed the Matterhorn Sport on my 1998 Hilux Surf. I made custom capture nuts for the roof rails using steel bar stock. My Surf has the spoiler with the power mirror, but I didn't need to modify the rack at all to fit. I just biased the side rails toward the front of the truck and they cleared the spoiler by about ¼".
As far as the installation or overall. If you're looking for overall information be sure to watch out more recent videos covering the difference. The PDF install instructions for the Sport are located on the product page and the video is coming soon.
Do you recommend keeping all of the original roof braces on the original rack? I installed my Sherpa a year ago and I thought it was keep the center one. Has that recommendation changed?
It's similar, the main difference is the fairing. Check the PDF instructions for the differences. We will have a Matterhorn Sport install video coming as we get vehicles in.
