doing the lord's work out here
Hi, do you have access to the alternate take of What About Me? The one where they count it off way too quickly and Larnell still ends up killing it.
I have the memory of enjoying it so much, but I lost my copy of the DVD and can't find any recordings/videos of it online.
Cheers!

Thank you for this clarification! I was listening to the first two minutes and thinking "what?"
Larnell did not need a second take, the man is a machine.
Wake up babe new Lingus just dropped
Its like stepping into the Snarky Puppy multi-verse
Exactly… I don’t know what I expected but as soon as Corey started playing I was like “wait…… where are we?”
It's pretty interesting because we can very clearly see how the improved portions dovetail into the non-improved by comparing it to the track that hit the release.
Ten years and then they drop this shit on us! I love it
It's kinda funny hearing this version and remember the other one in your head while they play. It's like being haunted by something you want to forget, but it's impossible to
Same here!
We’re all just waiting for him to drop those iconic chords…
This actually establishes how special the take we all know is. It's amazing, but it doesn't make me sweat in complete capture as the other take does.
agree!
it's curious how in this situation we're super into bias territory; we already heard the usual take and imprinted "the way it sounds" into our subconscious, so we're basically setting parameters on the expectations we are putting listening to it... "as a consequent version" of something we already stapled.
btw, i totally understand what you saying and i feel captured from the usual take more than this one too!
even the vibe troughout hits different (the arrangement is practically the same, even with the same "vibe choices" and little cherries here and there like some dragged measures or melodic ideas, bass doing the same fill etc etc), but this take is objectively less precise that the one we usually hear! especially in the end with horns kinda flaming notes and stuff haha
I love to think how the "here and now" presented to all these musicians that had to coordinate on much more than simply notes and chords. And how then, as you say, some takes maybe become keepers of something REEEEALLY special and rare!!
music is great.
Same here!
@@kundinga🎵🎶🎶
@@kundinga Exactly ! You know what ? Next time I'm showing this to a friend that doesn't know anything about Snarky Puppy, then if they're interested I'll show them the "real" solo and hear what they think of it
The release take must have been like discovering kryptonite!
Give me an excuse to listen to this song a few hundred more times.
I never thought that I will experience Lingus for the first time again lol, that's just priceless! Cory did it again!!!
Yeah! I felt this.
the mixing is so clean you could eat off of it.
Seriously the mix engineer is the real mvp here. I googled and i think his name is Nic Hard. Nic Hard goes hard.
No, you cant eat off of it. Its THEEE main course meal, brutha, the food itself
Hehehe
YEEEESSSS!!! It’s like you can breathe in the music it’s so clean!
I can see why they went with the other take, but it's cool to hear such a different solo
"I clicked on this link expecting the usual stellar performance, but I couldn't even tell the difference until the solo kicked in. It's like entering a pipe and discovering a secret passage in Mario. Oh myyyyy. I'm going to listen to this a million times
There is no difference for the first 4 minutes. Says so in the description.
Still one of the best performances ever on TH-cam by any artist or group. Outstanding musicianship!
They dropped another Lingus before GTA 6
At first, I thought, WTF, this is the same as the released version, e.g., as the dueling sax/trumpet solos are almost identical to the official take, only realizing when Cory comes in and he has very different lead tones that this is really an alternate take. I clearly understand why the other version was chosen, but this version is not without merits. It almost becomes Terry Riley-esque in places and I will definitely listen again a few times.
read the description - first 4 minutes ARE the same
That said, there are still a few details that puzzle me. Firstly, the entire first part, up to the solo, is absolutely identical, in every way, to the version on the album. The slightest accent, the slightest note is similar, which is surprising, knowing that they play their pieces a lot in improvisation. Paradoxically, as a drummer myself, I noticed that at 4:07, you can hear Larnell Lewis playing a break on the snare drum, but on the video he doesn't play the same thing. So I think there is a mix between sound and video. But that's just a guess.
Hoping that the message is well received, and that it is clear, I am French, my translation is perhaps not perfect.
Cheers
@@nico060797 again: the first four minutes (approx.) are the same take! There is a cut at the beginning of the solo part.
Hang on, wait, what?! How many other takes are in existence?!?! We need them all and we need them now!!!
I think there’s a total of 4 or 5. There’s an organ one he said he did that week as well. I wanna hear that one.
Hell yeah!! I'll say it again: We need a drum video with Larnell L., Vinnie C. and Matt G. PLEASE! Just get together and go off to another world and let us witness it.
To think this is the track that "didn't quite make the cut".
I was in a Cory Henry MasterClass few years ago and literally asked him if he knew this solo gonna be THE MOMENT of his career. He answred a pretty weird answer saying: "There were 2 options, the one you know and another one I loved more. They decided at the end taking the one that the band were better in."
Kinda wierd to me that he said that because this one is still great, but the solo they actually took is better to my opinion.
But hey, you still need a super crazy chops to play such a solo, just that this one sounds like the sketch idea of the famous one.
th-cam.com/video/Xvpah-zWFXs/w-d-xo.html
Same uploader put out a 'Night four, Set one' cut as well that's absolutely stellar, wonder if that's the solo he means?
I like that he moved the King korg on top of the Kronos for night four, giving us those sweet chords to accompany his solo in that take, and the 'final version'
Haha I was about to say "eh not as good" but then I got the shivers again! He did it again! And the build up by Larnell is just masterful, great drumming
6:40 When you finally got the prize at the end of the dungeon.
6:56 the lick.
Man, just you and Michael League caught the lick, thanks 👌👌
😆👏🏼👌🏼
There's even like three more!
6:26 also
Now I have to go listen the official one again! What an experience this must have been to that audience!
Let's get high on music. That bass playa freaking theeee hell out of that bass
Just… thank you.
If this had been the take the world would have been saying “this is just astounding”. The other one (the chosen one) just pushes at the last 0.5% of perfection that somehow leaves this behind. But this is in itself quite phenomenal.
🙏
Your pfp creates some kind of optical illusion as if it's spinning.
...I swear I'm not high. 😅
@@ShovelChef I wasn’t high when I designed it, but perhaps the many years of practice made it inevitable!
Drumming and trumpets and 7.50 for a min or two - sublime.
Great, a proof for the many-worlds interpretation! Both branches are out of this world, though!
They should've named the track "Shaun's disbelief". They went with the other take because Shaun's disbelief was better on that one.
Superb. Get the live DVD and I guarantee you will not pause it..
I have no words to add but an Grammy winning keyboardist was blown away by this young cat!
This Lingus is one of my favorite jazz song and you put another version of it ?
Get out of here !!!
Awesome version too ^^
Thank you so much guys !
Take care.🥰
Crazy insane crazy. Thank you and congratulations all.
Wow, this is so wild!
Good lord!
This is wild!
Thats Music & Emotionen
Great Set ❤❤❤❤❤
This is simply insane. Love it.
Until Cory's solo I was like... this is no alternate take! These musicians are sick !!!
This is incredible! I love hearing a completely different take of Cory's solo. So cool.
Love it !!!
I like the section before the Cory Henry just pops off better in this version, but his solo, and after, is better in the official release. I also like the background to his solo better in this one, but this version still just isn't the same. And did anyone else see the Mario Pez dispenser at 6:41?
Oh… they needed this camera set up for the other take actually! 😭 x) excellent !
Monsterpiece ! Bravo
Perfect alternate!
❤
Master Class....
It's really beautiful and entertaining.
Is this what people call a Cool New Lingus!!!?
Fantastic Cory but the electric piano solo in the version everyone knows is from another planet!
the owner of this channel is a jumper, they went to get the same video from another universe.
WOWZERS
Love the harmony under the solo, sounds like horns? Wish it was louder. Thank you so much for uploading this. Awesome!
What a revelation.
Sick
Phantastisch
I can confidently say speaking from my musical preferences i even prefer the first 2 or so minutes of this solo to the other
wow!!!!
This was intense🎉
Man that call and response at the end tho
6:25 HE PLAYED THE THING
AGAIN AT 6:57
6:25 giving licc
The original is just different!!
A lot of interesting stuff in the rhythm section here.
6:26 & 6:58 two versions of TFW Lingus but with the Licc.
Now I want to listen all verses another songs
Yep, still cooks.
Szuper :)
holy shit
i am lost for words
One of my fav all time songs! Must observe though in this version that the video does not line up to the drum fill on the snare heard at 4:06. Maybe it was the percussionist? Still fantastic though! Corey is an ALIEN!
The other take is just another energy level
WHOA
mortalmente mortale
@3:18 can anyone confirm if the trumpet player using an effects rig to get that tone? That is WILD. I love it either way, but will be blown away if it is acoustic.
Interesting to see different audience members too.
That keyboard solo at 4:30
Lingus was designed for Cory's Solo
larnell man... jeez!
Bummed that the trading solos were pretty much worked out in advance. Cory Henry’s solo being the exception :)
Not the case. The first four minutes of this video are in fact the same take as normal. It says so in the description.
It's the same first 4 minutes with Cory's alt take edited on.
My husband was abused physically and had cancer as a child, when i met him he stuttered so bad he could barely state his name. Today he speaks clearly, is cancer free, and a great father to both our children. The victory belongs to Jesus!!❤❤❤HES ALL I NEED!!!✝✝✝✝✝✝🙏🙏🙏
que grande tiburoncin!
Can definitely see/hear why Corey's solo was cut. That would have been an amazing "live" solo, but for an album...nope.
Proof… Cory is actually ad-libbing his solos… The other brief solos were crafted and memorized.. Good, but it’s just another approach to come off the top each time
The first four minutes are directly from the original including the trading fours from the trumpet and sax. The alternate Cory Henry solo has been edited in.
@@moses9647 thanks
I’d love to hear their different takes too
I just wanted to point that out because sometimes I’ll see video breaking down what Cory solos in a manner that suggests that he sits down and writes them with a bunch of theory choices happening. Theory can be the source of a great solo but often is just an explanation of why it sounds good.
Lingus - The Licc Version
And he still gets the same look from Shaun Martin
Love the percussion in this one, but the solo of the original drop is better by far in my opion.
That Cory Henry Solo? I played just like that last night
then I woke up
cory was trolling haha. amazing work
So is Cory Henry a magician or what???
Got me, wondering now if there is yet another take. Hmmm
where there alternates this whole time? why are we seeing this now.. 😭?? Has this been out there somewhere on the internet the whole time?
Now I am curious how many takes for each song in this album?
como foi isso???????????
ola...
The chain bass line, anyone?
HOW DID YOU FIND THIS
Not like it's in the description or anything.
Boo
The jazz do a great version of this one.
Only better.😊
The kingkorg position is different too,is it the another universe of lingus?
Guess my parents lied about my birthday date. It's clearly today.
How many takes, do they taken?
4 days (nights), 2 sets daily (nightly) (October 7-10, 2014)
@@SajtiEgon so a total of 8 live sets?
Shaun didn't even take his headphones off in disbelief... WEAK!
