I was 7 years old when the 2011 muppets film came out and I hyper-fixated on it for like a year afterward. I was out here playing muppets with my monster high dolls. Cleo de Nile was Ms. Piggy.
I was a junior in HIGH SCHOOL. I went to the theater to see Cars 2, a horrible HORRIBLE movie…and the preview for this movie played before it, and I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time. It was a big deal for me because I was a huge fan of The Muppets on the inside. This was the movie that brought me back to the franchise full time

You forgot the true musical masterpiece of the film: Camilla the Chicken's cover of Forget You. The crowd in the movie theater loved it. This was the last movie I saw in the theater with my parents and sister; we had both graduated college and moved out by then, but somehow we all wound up going to see this movie Black Friday or Saturday. We all loved it. My father has since passed away, so it's going to retain this distinction, but, you know, it's not the worst movie for a family outing, even if the "kids" were in their mid to late 20's.
I've always felt that the 2015 series The Muppets was unfairly maligned. That series was doing all the stuff that Frank Oz complained the Muppets had lost, and for some reason a lot of Muppet fans complained about that. The show had conflict, character flaws, interesting arcs, and a fun spin on the classic Muppet show format. After Muppets 2011, I was thrilled to get such a great follow up project, and super bummed when it flopped. To me, it was the combination of the mediocre returns on most wanted, and the baffling fan backlash for The Muppets 2015 that prompted Disney to reverse course on that direction with the Muppets and return to the more saccharine, bland take on the Muppets they'd been peddling prior to Muppets 2011.
I disagree it sucked. I already thought the office was just ok and the original muppet show is way funnier. I guess I like absurd physical humor. This show was awful. It felt like the Muppets with the life sucked out of it. I think the muppets felt out of character sometimes. For example, Scooter distracting Elizabeth Banks because Kermit told him to. That's in character I can see him doing that. Scooter picking a fight with Elizabeth Banks. That felt very out of character.

My family has almost always had a very heavy emotional connection to the Muppets, especially my mom's side of the family. My great aunt was cremated with her childhood Kermit puppet. She had seen every movie, had seen almost every episode of the Original show, The Muppets had been with her almost every day of her life. Although I agree with the connection you make to the first Muppet Movie and how they gather together to put on a show, but there's also a strong similarity to the It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas movie, with the threat of the theatre being bought out to be turned into something else and the muppets needing to raise money.
The whole "dollar bill" alternate ending also reminds me of Randolph and Mortimer, the brothers from Trading Places who were absolutely live-action versions of Statler and Waldorf, whether the writers knew it or not.

I didn’t go because I was hung up on my first boyfriend at the time who had drug and legal issues and had a curfew. So I grew up with the muppets, with some of my oldest memories being watching The Muppet Movie in my dad’s room, and seeing a Spanish version of Muppets treasure Island on some Mexican TV channel, so my first time watching The Muppets I was a little disappointed (mostly because rowlf had barley any lines). But now I’ve grown to appreciate it because, like you said I think it did a good job bringing in old and new muppets fans to the franchise. I think I really only hated this movie as I grown up because. Well the mindset “muppets good , disney bad” is really easy for me to fall into. I wish The Muppets 2011 had been my introduction to them 😂 got to see Wizard of Oz before that and (while I appreciate it now) it didn't really get me to pursue them further
I was 11 when The Muppets came out, which means I'm two years older than you, which blows my mind, because I can't imagine being older than any youtubers I watch
Waaaait Tex Richman’s backstory is included in his song “let’s talk about me”... I listened to the soundtrack all the time around 2011 so I still know that song by heart - is that not in the full cut of the movie???
Have you ever noticed that when a creator of a show retires or dies in years later they try to bring back the show it’s never the same and it’s never good like it once was? I know that Frank Oz would agree with me when I say this but, when people remake a show and try to bring it back they are missing something very important that the original creator had, and that’s hart. These shows are missing a vital part of what the creator had intended all along and that’s warmth and caring and of course they should respect the audience.
You are so incredible and intelligent. I love you (and the Muppets)!! Also, I can never watch a full video without being completely distracted by how beautiful you are
Great deep dive. Loved it I am usually not into these kinds of videos but this was an absolute treat. Also what are your pronouns? My friend and I who watch your videos have been curious cause we wanna correctly address you by what you prefer.
WOW It was planned to have Statler and Waldorf ..my absolute favourites to safe the Muppets ... Oh gosh what a missed Oportunity ... and yes the ending is rushed .. and i never liked the part that they actually barely made any Money
While the 2011 movie is good for reintroducing the Muppets, the biggest difference is the over-prominence of the human characters. Originally, Muppet movies correctly placed the emphasis and prime focus on the Muppets, with the humans as their foils. In the 2011 movie, the humans sing songs of their own, and sometimes sing to the Muppets. If a movie full of color puppet characters has humans taking the focus while the puppet watches....that's dumb. 🙄. In the "Muppets Most Wanted", for instance, Tina Fey and a chorus of humans sing TO Kermit. He just watches. That's a waste of a Muppet.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed! So many people have been sharing their own personal stories with this fim in the comments and it makes me so happy
Beautiful *chefs kiss
This movie was so good, and was super formative for me
As a fellow Aidan, I feel obligated to subscribe.
I’m at work right now but I absolutely cannot wait to watch this once I get off !! Keep the muppet content coming💕💕
Interesting fact: Kermit was performed by Artie Esposito for a very brief period in 2009
I wish The Muppets 2011 had been my introduction to them 😂 got to see Wizard of Oz before that and (while I appreciate it now) it didn't really get me to pursue them further
I’d kill to be a writer for The Muppets
The 2011 movie was so good! The Muppets definitely need more love from Disney in this modern era!
I love that movie
I was 11 when The Muppets came out, which means I'm two years older than you, which blows my mind, because I can't imagine being older than any youtubers I watch
Amazing! Please can you do a deep dive on the 2015 muppet series too!?
Ahhh Im so excited!!!
Waaaait Tex Richman’s backstory is included in his song “let’s talk about me”... I listened to the soundtrack all the time around 2011 so I still know that song by heart - is that not in the full cut of the movie???
man, i really love this movie, but i wish they had kept that alternate ending. i genuinely got emotional just hearing about it tbh
I love Walter in the context of The Muppets (2011) but I'm not sure he works in any other context
in my opinion he fits in decently in muppets NOW
Have you ever noticed that when a creator of a show retires or dies in years later they try to bring back the show it’s never the same and it’s never good like it once was? I know that Frank Oz would agree with me when I say this but, when people remake a show and try to bring it back they are missing something very important that the original creator had, and that’s hart. These shows are missing a vital part of what the creator had intended all along and that’s warmth and caring and of course they should respect the audience.
You are so incredible and intelligent. I love you (and the Muppets)!!
Also, I can never watch a full video without being completely distracted by how beautiful you are
PLEASE make a reaction for more HTTYD parts, its really interesting to hear a commentary from a really fan like you!
Great deep dive. Loved it I am usually not into these kinds of videos but this was an absolute treat. Also what are your pronouns? My friend and I who watch your videos have been curious cause we wanna correctly address you by what you prefer.
Muppets bohemian rhapsody was a cultural reset
WOW It was planned to have Statler and Waldorf ..my absolute favourites to safe the Muppets ... Oh gosh what a missed Oportunity ... and yes the ending is rushed .. and i never liked the part that they actually barely made any Money
I know what to do with the Muppets. You know how Scobby Doo has new straight to dvd movies once a year. They should do that.
21:00 I hate it. It feels out of character for Statler and Waldorf. I like we got better.
