    Peanut butter and grape jelly mixed on white bread. They had this at lunch in grade school in north Carolina and called it "mixture". It was wrapped in waxed paper. I always looked forward to it.

    This episode is so special because Diana Gabaldon wrote the script

    Peanut butter and hagelslag for me! Hagelslag is a typical Dutch thing. It’s like chocolat sprinkles. I still eat it every now and then.

    "is it Lord John again?" *claps * ahahah see, you are one of us now. gibble gobble ahahahahahah
    (also, lord john in the books is always sending stuff to them. either cause jamie asked or cause he thinks "oh, look at this medical thingy, for sure claire would like it" and he just gifts it to her hahaahha)
    they wont have any money??? Alexa!! Bree has the Boston house and all the money Dr Claire Randall and Professor Randall left her. they are basically rich!!! ahahhhahah

    Yes! I've always wanted to hear these full conversations where the whole truth comes out, and they never show them! And it's mostly the same in the books, too, which is a little shame to me.
    I'd always make up the missing pieces of confessions and shock in my head.
    Also, I was a weird child, and had a thing for Ketchup on bread. I'd eat it just like any spread

    2 tbs peanut butter in a bowl, 2 tbs apple jelly in the bowl. Blend thoroughly. Spears onto bread as thickly as possible.
    I ate this all the time as a kid. I still make them at least once a month. They are sooo yummy.

    Man, if my school had a victorian house in its area, I would also totally go there for the "gatherings."

    Grilled cheese. Most of this episode is very much outside of the books. I'm thinking they added this bit in to show how dangerous and unpredictable the stones really are. They have not gone into as much detail about that in the show as was in the books. Claire said in the books "It's not a revolving door." A lot of things have to align in order for you to have a successful journey through. It was just chance that Claire happened to go on her first journey on a day that the portal was wide open, and she was wearing silver, gold, and a jewel. Geillis' diary mentions that dead bodies with strange clothes have commonly been found around them. And Claire mentioned once that she could hear screaming inside the stones, so she thought that was a pretty clear sign that not everyone makes it through. There are plenty of other things that are different in this episode. What stands out, though, is that Brianna now knows about William. She did not know that at this point in the books, mostly because this point in the books doesn't exist, but it makes sense that Jamie would choose to tell her when he thinks he'll never see her again.

    They also left out the back story when Claire explained to Frank what had happened.

  • @Adrienne1eh

    YES! I would also have loved to see Frank, Murtagh and Ian reacting when they find out about the time travel!
    I still love Pb&J and grilled cheese! lol! Also a favourite for many years was something called "Fairy bread": buttered bread with hundreds and thousands (sprinkles) on top :D

    Oh no, remember, Brianna was owner of all of Frank and Claire's property and bank accounts. They will have plenty of money when they get back.

    So far there are 9 books. From after the Boat shed incident in ep 10 to the end of this season was from Book 6, even though a large part of this episode, wasn't in the books.

    3 favorite childhood sandwiches, pb & j, fluffernutter, bologna and hot mustard. My folks weren't watching me once, and I ate half a loaf of bread worth of bologna & hot mustard. So, I guess I must've liked it.

    • @alexachipman
      @alexachipman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What is hot mustard? Do you heat it up or is it spicy?

    • @mikemeggison5084
      @mikemeggison5084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant spicy. 'Round these parts, we just say "hot" and people magically know what you mean, like how the Guardians understand Groot.

    Great reaction! I got to see it earlier than usual on what is for me a weds night. So much for rooting around on YT late at night. I love your speculations about what's coming up. This is one of my S5 faves. So much genuine emo there, so well stitched together. Btw, Claire never did give the opal to the Mohawks. She has had it all along.
    As to scalping, one of my ancestors was killed and scalped during the Revolutionary War. By Loyalists, as you said. A very brutal internecine war. I know these reports were often used as propaganda, too, but that's what his death record says. (And I'm with you about going back. Reading about it is quite sufficient for me.)
    Now for the most important question: I liked both grilled cheese & PB&J but grilled cheese was my fave.

    Yaaaay, new reaction! I feel like I love the idea of going back in time, but when I actually think about the reality of how it was back then, I'm like...hmmm, maybe not. Also, just curious, have you finished book 2?
