I wore feed sack dresses in the 40s. My parents were farmers and the feed bags back then had beautiful prints. My aunt use to come to our house every summer and made my dresses for school.
I'm sure the dresses were pretty - I've come across a few feed sack dresses and couldn't resist buying them, the print on the fabric was just too nice to pass up!
I love tagging along with you at the flea markets! You always find cool stuff. I love your enthusiasm for your finds!! Keep researching!! I love what you find out!
The feed sack was great!! My grandmother raised baby chicks and the feed came in lovely fabric, so before we went to Guam in 1949, she had many little midriff outfits made for me from the feedsacks. Most were small prints so when I see certain fabrics, I think of my grandmother.
I have several quilts that my granny made from the floral feed bags. Plus lots of my Mother's & her sisters clothes were also made from them. You are like me when I have a box of ephemera to look through you think that you will just look at a few, but then something else gets your attention!! Makes it Hard to put the box down!! Love your channel, since I LOVE ephemera, old stuff and the education we get from your research is priceless, without me having to do the work. THANKS!!
I love the sound of the trinkets or pins when you’re looking through them! Ohh and those little deer that were in the box with the metal plates you got, I would have bought those! Great video, Renee!
Looking forward to your upcoming Etsy shop!!! Love that furniture tag!! Always love finding paper!! So much fun going through the treasures when you get home!! TFS❣️ Happy hunting🎉
Wasn't that amazing Shirley Ann? Two sacks that matched ( prints from 100 Ibs flour I think) and by that night you had a new dress. Just used newsprint pattern she made but most the time Grandma Ruth just cut, no pattern. Often during quilting sessions women would bring "extras" bags in the hope to trade for the same print. I still have a quilt top from a feed sack scrap quilt my Great, great Aunt Jessie had made. Thanks for reminding me Shirley Ann.

There is an old song from Roger Miller called “King Of The Road”. He was one of my father’s favorite singers. Every time I see or hear that phrase, I sing that little bit of the lyrics, if not the whole song, in my head.
Loved the feed bag - My Mom used to take me to the feed store where they would hang the pretty feed sacks on the outside of the store. She would make dish towels from them and other items. Love the Flea Market videos - Thanks:)
Put some wood stretchers on the feed bag (either all around like an interior frame, or just top & bottom) & hang it on the wall ... less than "country kitchen/farmer," it can be "industrial cool" with the right decor...

Congratulations on your future Etsy store, I’m sure it will be a huge success. Here is a cautionary tale. I listed a vintage book, and because time is always an issue with me having a day job I just threw the book and some packaging on the scale to get the shipping weight. The 4 ounces I was off increased the shipping cost to the Netherlands by $12.83. It was my first international sale and I had to ship the book at a loss. Lesson learned, you never know who is going to buy your stuff. Now I pack every item the way it’s going to the post office to get an accurate weight before I list it.
More great purchases! Of course, I loved the box of photos and paper, but I also thought the little bird was wonderful. I love birds. Did you see the recent Yellowstone stories? One was about a man who walked right up to Old Faithful to take a picture and the other was a large herd of buffalo that stampeded through a bunch of car (they weren't moving). One even hit a car head-on. It's their video that is making the rounds. Have a great rest of your weekend and thanks for sharing💕
