I love the broom holder and that turkey! Truly love that turkey. What fun. One year my sister bought a bunch of basket cornucopians answer wore them on our heads as hats. We had so much fun. Then another year she bought all of us elf hats with bells. Now are parents are gone and our brother who was the oldest. We are all scattered. I miss my family get togethers. Same on husband's side. So different.

I remember my father who was a reseller sold at flea markets to make a living for the family. He died at the age of 56 in 1978, so he wasn't able to "Look things up'. He sold what was considered junk items. I went with him a couple of times but I could have learned do much more from him. The stupid things we do when we are young. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm in my late sixty's, so I hope that it's not to late for me.

I freaking love that turkey!!! Here is a tip if you have a hard time matching brown and black paint on ceramic paint chips I use make up. Usually eyeliner pencils. I buy the softer pencil which are more similar to crayons. I buy them in several shades. I rub the pencil on my finger and then rub my finger over the chip or scuff. Works like a charm every time and you can’t even see the chip afterwards. I find with paint you can never get the gloss right but for whatever reason eyeliner is always a perfect match😂 it would work well on that Turkey with all the brown tones

I am an amputee, and the advancements even now in prosthetics is amazing. It is ever changing. There is a conference every year in Vegas for companies to show their new technology in prosthetics. In just the short time that I have had a prosthetic the range of motion for a foot has gone gotten amazing. A lot of the advancement is being made because of our soldiers who come in contact with ied's etc..

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

How interesting! I can only imagine with our technology what can be done to improve current prosthetics. Not sure if you know, but are any of the companies older, as in, have they been in the business for 60 years or more? It would be interesting to see their advancements.

I learned to touch-type on one of those old typewriters; in fact, I think that's probably the same book we had! I graduated from secretarial school with 85 wpm on one of those machines - great exercises for strengthening the fingers as it took quite a bit of pressure to depress the keys, and then returning the carriage to start another line. Think that's probably why I've never had arthritis!!

One of my favorite movies is “The Best Years of our Lives” 1940s B&W, about 4 men who come home from WW2 and have to adjust to civilian life again. The main character is played by a true WW2 Vet who lost both of his arms from about the elbows down, and how he had to return home to his fiancé.

Paper and Moose I can imagine he would think it wouldn’t hold him up after that heavy contraption he wore. I remember he always walked with a cane and had only a slight limp in his step. Funny the things you remember out of your childhood. The family had a big celebration on his birthday every year. Soft drinks on ice in big galvanized wash tubs . Fresh from the garden veggies, ham and fried chicken from my 2 great uncles farm . And a pile of watermelon 🍉 . All 8 of his children came in. His birthday was on the 4th of July.

You can probably narrow down the date of the atlas by the names of countries on the maps. Look at Europe- does it have east and west Germany, etc? It might even have "Prussia'. Other countries frequently changed names and borders, like in Africa. As a kid we had a world map in our basement playroom that was made immediately post- WW2. Before the Berlin wall was built. It still listed occupied territories.

I buy a ton of vintage ephemera there every year and then the prices I see on ebay and etsy are ridiculous. My brother is a WWII German hat and helmet collector. People ship/bring him things to authenticate. There is suppose to be a show by you in August or September. Look up The Show of Shows it's called. You'd love it. You'd also be surprised what sells for what. For instance he US WWII stuff doesn't sell nearly as much as the German stuff. Mainly because US military things have the market flooded. It's a must thing for you thou. I guarantee you'd love walking around!!

The Mickey planter looks like the 1950's ones made by American Bisque. Not positive. In that condition, it could probably bring 15-20 dollars. But I'm not an expert. I have a Bambi one by them that I got in the 60's that is pretty valuable. My daughter took it when she moved out for a plant.
    I think it's a great find.

That cat figure, it's a commemorative version that came out in the 2000s. If had more parts, it might sell for more. Looked like lots of people had it up in the 12 to 20 dollar range but those had complete or near complete figures.

I think you are right about that turkey - that might be the rarest thing I have ever seen

I love the typing book! Takes me back to when I learnt as school. Well not those old typewriters lol. Also the water damaged election poster is cool. A little water damage gives a great aged look and, on this particular piece, it doesn't distract from the poster. Love the colours in that little hankie and those needle holders are so pretty. Great finds x

Renee, a couple of times you've mentioned eBay but I don't see a link to your eBay store. Do you have one?

No tea that morning! My local Dunkin haven't adjusted their hours back to normal yet, so I was running on just pure treasure hunting energy.

Most of the figures you have in that hamper were Voltron with some bits and bobs that were Transformers

Transformers are popular toys to this day. I have two little grandsons who LOVE them! I happily grab a single transformer for $5 at the thrift store. And you got a whole box for $5! I think auctioning them on ebay is a great idea!

Since they are missing pieces, it is the easiest method. This way I can just take photos, say sold as it, and not have to figure out what pieces are there/what pieces are missing.
