How To Fix Yellowed Cloudy Headlights with 3M Ultra Headlight Restoration Kit

Headlight restoration products can give good results for surface defects and clouding but they cannot repair internal crazes and cracks. The vehicle in this video is a 2007 Toyota RAV4. The video compares before and after shots of the headlights treated with the 3M Ultra Headlight Restoration Kit.

this is a 2007 Toyota Rav4 Note the condition of these headlights they're a little bit clouded and yellowed same on both sides this is a headlight restoration kit we're going to give it a shot and see what kind of results we get and at the end we'll show a striking comparison of the before and
after let's start by taking a look at what comes inside this kit here's what we got we got an attachment for a drill we got a few sanding discs we got a couple of envelopes of clear coat there's a little bit of painters tape and there's a glove last but not least we have some instructions these discs are marked with different grits this one is
500 this one is also 500 this is 3,000 and let's see about these these seem to be 800 and here we have the details of our instructions so let's get started so I put tape all around the headlight and I've used this plastic tool to push the tape into the gap between the headlight and the bumper or the other body parts or the fender I've got both sides adequately masked now for added protection I put some extra masking tape on the bottom I'm going to start sanding using one of the yellow discs which is 500 grit here's how it looks after a little bit of sanding with the yellow disc so now I'm switching to the purple disc here's how it looks after going over it with the 800 grit now I'm switching to the 8,000 grit and I've wetted it lightly with water here's how it looks with the passenger side lens is done Blackie who's the shop supervisor seems to
approve so here's the result on the driver's side after doing all three grits and I want to show you something that there are scratches or crazes that are inside the lens you can see them when I shine this light on them like this you can see the reflections and these will never come out with this kind of treatment so there you can see how they're distributed everywhere they are not surface scratches they are crazes inside the lens itself so finally we're ready for the clear coat phase we have two packets of clear coat we open the first packet and use it on both lenses wait for it to dry 5 to 15 minutes and then open the second C uh packet and apply again to both lenses here they are after the first application of clear coat and this clear coat is really the step that does it for getting that final crystal clear finish we're all done and maybe we'll compare to the shots that were taken before and after here's the before and after from two different angles and you can be the judge and if I have one final recommendation it is use more tape and extend it out further than you think is necessary because I did manage to make some scuffs outside of the border of the tape and uh it's not a real big deal um but um better to avoid these if possible let's close out with these before and after comparisons again thank you for watching this video hope you enjoyed
