My grandma used to bring her powdered coffee creamer in a pill bottle in her purse into restaurants because she hated the half n half. This was back in the 80’s. Haha. Imagine today if she got stopped with a pill bottle full of white powder!! 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve been on Keto since January 2020. Down 80 pounds and love Keto. You girls offer some great advice and recipes. My favorite eat out is at our local Red Robin (near Seattle) Home of bottomless steak fries. I order a burger (minus the bun) wrapped in lettuce. Instead of fries I have their bottomless steamed broccoli. Thanks again for a great channel.

My family is going out to a dim sum restaurant for New Year’s brunch. There was little sympathy for my plight when the decision was made because the important guests are the family visiting from overseas, whom I really want to see. What a way to start my keto year! I looked at the menu online, and my choices are extremely limited. I can probably order egg drop soup, Chinese broccoli, and chicken feet. Maybe pork ribs if they’re not saucy. I decided I’d watch a bunch of successful keto examples on TH-cam, like yours, eat something before the family comes to pick me up, and enjoy my time with the family, pushing food around on my plate like Princess Diana, and promise myself a day making KetoTwins recipes like crab Rangoon to make it up to myself.

LOVE that you also bring tortillas in your purse, I do too, there is NO SHAME! 😆 also, I have called ahead to the restaurant and asked if we brought in our own tortillas if they would be willing to make a quesadilla with them and they were totally on board and it was delicious! Thanks for the great tips Keto Twins!!

I recently ate at a Mexican restaurant and ordered shrimp fajitas with no tortillas, no rice, no beans and the server asked me if I would like a larger salad with it instead. I think it's getting more popular. BTW....it was delicious. I just ate the peppers, onions, shrimp with a bite of salad and didn't feel like I missed anything

Guys, I served at a Greek restaurant for 19 years. I was happy to accommodate my customers, especially when wanting nutritional info. You wouldn’t believe, but all the GYRO meat listed BREADCRUMBS as an ingredient! Ask your server to check the ingredient list. Never assume it’s just beef and lamb.

Pizza Hut actually puts corn starch on their wings. That is what makes them so crispy. Found that out when I would check my blood sugar after eating them and it had jumped up. Then I looked up how they make them.

I so rarely eat out now. I moved to a very rural area so there are not not a ton of options unless I want to drive 90 miles to get to the closest city. I’ve just been eating my Factor meals lately. I found some simple things to order at the Mexican restaurant that are decent if my friend wants to go out to eat. It’s not too difficult to make it work. Thanks for always thinking up good ideas to talk about. I think the more we talk about it and hear ideas, the easier it becomes to make this a lifestyle and not just another diet.

Steak salad~ if we do eat out. To be honest, we really don't eat out much- as in, once or twice a year maybe. We've tried over the years, but the problem is that we're usually not happy w/the quality of food for the money spent. When we can make 10 NY Strip steaks at home, for what it costs to eat out just one time~ I just can't do it. Plus, I love to cook~ & I'm pretty good at it, so there's that.
My husband can tell when I'm getting burned out, & will bring home a couple Costco chickens~ which is okay w/me. I know they don't use the best oils/seasonings, but it's good & it's occasional...AND I get to make a couple more meals out of the leftovers, chicken salad or pot pie usually. =) I guess I prefer to splurge on other things I love~ like amazing shoes, silver earrings & good linens. Much more my thang, what can I say🤷‍♀️👡

Alcoholic drink I do like you: tequila (or you could do vodka) with club soda and 2-3 lime wedges. Then I always have in my purse a plastic squeeze bottle of liquid sweetener. I squeeze in one of the lime wedges (or 2 if they're really tiny), then squeeze in some of my sweetener to taste. Actually, the LMNT would make my tequila drink taste like a margarita!

I agree that you can't always know exactly what's in the food when you eat out, but knowing what options are better for you is always a Pro Tip. I say bring the tortillas. Would they rather us eat somewhere else.
I also like supporting places with better options to show there is a need out there. I think it is worth it for them to meet those needs to stay competitive.
Thanks again for more tips for those wanting to give up or give in. 😊🧡

In Italian restaurants, I often get a couple meatballs with sauce, and pay extra for cheese melted over them. They may have some breadcrumbs in them, but overall not a bad option....salad on the side. I also take my own tortillas and will often say "you can hold the tortillas, I brought my own gluten free ones". Saves them some money....you eat what is good for you.

I have gluten allergy so no soy sauce but many Asian restaurants are starting to have Tamari sauce (wheat free soy). Pre Keto, I would take my container in and ask them to cook with mine. Now I have to stress NO added sugars since they are famous for using sugar in all their foods, even marinate their meats in stuff with sugar. Now that I’m keto, I just make my own stir fried veggies with meats.

We have gone on vacation 2 times in the past month for a week. Ate out a lot or fast food while driving. First trip I came back down .7. Second trip down 2 1/2 #. I brought with us chaffles and protein sparing buns for burgers. The chaffles are good with lox and cream cheese. Subway and Taco Bell while traveling just have them make the.burrito or egg sandwich into a bowl with lettuce or spinach and veggies. I think eating out is much easier then when I was on WW for years.

I’m in Abu Dhabi and while we surprisingly have a lot of chain restaurants like Cheesecake Factory, Texas Roadhouse, and Shake Shack etc, I also enjoy the challenge of getting the service people at Arab/Indian restaurants to understand what I want, and sometimes the results are hilarious. 😅
My favorites at chain places are as follows:
Denny’s: Omelettes with a-la-carte extra meats
Famous Dave’s: Brisket, BRISKET, BRISKET!! And pickles.
McD Breakfast: There’s a button for a “round egg” (the real one used on the McMuffin) and I ask for that with sausage patties.
PF Chang’s: This is where appetizers actually work. I order wings and grilled shrimp or something

My biggest downfall in an Italian restaurant is fried calamari. Everything you say is true. I also feel If you’re the type of person who has learned from experience not to go down that slippery slope, it’s better to feed your craving and be done with it. You then need to hop right back on keto without looking back. Denying one’s desires over a long period of time can cause a person to go off plan and binge.

Every single time we go out to a Restaurant I gain. I watch what I'm eating very closely. We go to spicific restaurants that I'm able to control to the best of my abilities by telling them what I want and in some cases even telling them how to cook it. I understand that most people are not like me and will tend to just take what is served to them but I'm a bit more demanding in that case. In new places we go to, we try to get as close as humanly possible to keto and on PSMF days we do not eat out. Good Video

When I go to a Mexican restaurant I'll usually order steak or chicken fajitas with no tortillas, no beans, no rice and ask for a side salad. Or I'll order their supreme nachos with no chips, no beans, and add lettuce. It's basically a salad and use the salsa as a salad dressing. If I go to any restaurant, I'll pick a protein (steak or chicken that's not breaded) loaded broccoli which is sour cream, bacon ,and cheese. Some places will look at me strangely and I'll explain to them that carbs are the devil haha

Here in Canada, we have fewer options. Vegan is the flavor of the day so Keto doesn't show up much in stores or restaurants. I've only been to one restaurant this year that actually advertised a lettuce wrap for burgers but the servers I've asked haven't seemed surprised at a request for no bun so they're ahead of their management. Fast food and international chains are still lagging behind the US here but I live in hope...

@@ketotwins It's your population size in the US, 10 times the size of ours in Canada. This automatically means that it's less economically feasible for entrepreneurs in countries that don't have the economy-of-scale advantage a large population gives to invest in developing and offering a wider range of products.

Excellent recommendation! I’ve been on KETO SINCE July 2021… Here in UK I have very limited KETO OPTIONS while eating out. Wings and Stake are my go to sometimes I go for SeaBass PAN FRIED.
    Mc’D triple cheese no sauce!

At a chinese restaurant both the egg drop soup and the hot and sour soup are very low carb. I love chinese food, and I struggle with not being able to get my hot fix, as most spicy sauces are brown, and the brown sauces contain a lot more sugar and starch. The white sauces are generally less sweet. Some places will leave out the cornstarch thickener if you ask them, the resulting sauce will be pretty thin. If this bothers you, you can add a tiny bit of xanthum gum when you get the take out home to thicken the sauce. BTW my son lives in Wrigleyville.. Might take him to that Old Irving Brewing Co. next time we visit. Looks amazing.

We just started a keto lifestyle a month ago. And went out for the first time to eat. They had a special appetizer that was sautéed crab claws. So we asked what they were sautéed in and it was just butter, a little wine and spices. Absolutely delicious. Except we never asked the price… $46 was the market price 😂
For the rest of the meal… we each got a salad with grilled shrimp. He got steak and steamed broccoli. I got scallops with asparagus. And we asked for all sauces on the side. I think we did pretty good for our first time out.

That all sounds delicious! Wow that is expensive, I have to admit I’ve never ordered anything that say “market price” next to it on a menu, and now I know why! Lol! -Em

I just retuned from an 8 day vacation. Very happy to say I stuck with my diet and lost 2.1 lbs while enjoying my vacation. I found could always find something on the menu that I eat or request modifications and substitutions. We order Pho one meal and I had them hold the rice noodles and give me extra bean sprouts. They also had the option to do spring rolls with lettuce. I little messy but really yummy.

Also, I go to KFC and order a 5.00 box with a chicken breast and green beans. Sometimes their coleslaw although I'm sure it's dirty. And I end up eating the biscuit and cookie because - like you said - it's a few times a year.

Really great ideas! Restaurants can be a big downfall for me...
but here are some things that I do:
-naked or smoked wings...many places in Wisconsin have wings that aren't breaded
-Salads that have something hot on them. Red Robin makes a nice Southwest Salad and you can leave all the carby things out, they've always made me a beautiful salad. If I'm super hungry or want left overs, I have them add an extra breast and put all the dressing on the side.
-Send my husband to pick up the food while I prep something here...toast some keto buns to replace fast food buns with my own. Order a chinese dish with no sauce and put my own sauce on at home. It's easy to whip up a tasty sauce with keto asian ingredients.
-At Mexican groceries on the weekends, they often sell carnitas and cactus salad. Fresh chicharrones, too. If you buy the carnitas, they usually throw in a small container of red or green salsa. I make countless things with those dishes. Cactus salad is super for keto!
-Some local pizzerias use those old time pre-made "cracker" crusts and they are super generous with toppings. I love getting those, eat the top of the pizza and save the rest of the toppings to make a meal with the next day...pizza chimichangas with the low carb tortillas, omelettes, etc.

I have ordered a burrito without the tortilla or beans on several occasions at Mexican restaurants. I sometimes get a funny look and one waiter asked me to repeat it to make sure he heard me right. lol But, I know that I am having something I love without as many carbs.

This evening I left "Keto" at the front door of a Southern Home Cooking BBQ and Seafood restaurant at my former hometown. Oh it was sad how I hurt myself filling up on fried food, peach cobbler and sweet tea. It will take me 10 days to kill all those carbs. Sad, sad, sad. Note: I only visit this Statewide renowned restaurant once a year. Back on track tomorrow with a 24 hrs fast. 😔😔😔

I think restaurants just want people back in their establishment, and they understand that there are a lot of folks who have dietary restrictions. The 1st time we brought our own in we were a little nervous, but they were totally understanding. We've been doing it ever since for the last 3 years.

Open mind, open heart...and not obnoxious, but confident when ordering. Yup. I've done the low carb tortilla with the gyros meat. Never thought to ask for side salad instead of fries🤔...just get the gyros with everything except the pita. Yup... preparation is key! Oh yea...made my own garlic cheese biscuits going to Red Lobster with friends (pre-covid of course). Looked just like theirs, tasted great, and friends did a taste comparison. 😂 Hilariously keto good time!😋
