I fitted one to my Series 3 rear axle. It now drives up slopes in 2WD which used to struggle in 4WD. No noises or fuss and exceptional value for money.
Love it and can't wait to fit one to the front.

Did you get one for the front...are you still happy with the rear ATB?

@@muleengineering6703 I'm saving up to do the front this summer and converting to CV joints at the same time.
Very happy with the rear. It's also pegged which is probably overkill. All built by Nige at Excess 4x4

I have a atb in my transfer box defender 130 , simply because it's worth upgrading during a rebuild of the transfer box after the standard failed, Very happy with it😀

I have an Ascroft Atb in my rear axle. It’s like an open diff, it’t won’t help when you need it.

I fitted an ATB in the rear of my Puma in October 2017, and recently started noticing a groaning noise that's becoming quite bad.
My indie and I eventually traced it to the rear diff: at specific rpm/speed, there is a loud, low-frequency groaning noise + vibration emanating from the rear of the car. It almost feels as if the seats have built-in massage function, especially when I hit 80-100kmh.
Has anyone else experienced this after fitting an Ashcroft, and if so, how did you fix this?
    thanks

The obvious thought is the diff hasnt been setup correctly. What I don't show in the video is the correct setup of preload, pinion depth and how the crown wheel and pinion meshed before dis-assembly. I can only suggest the diff needs to be checked, stripped and adjustments made as required.

I'm asking too if it makes any difference because. I just fitted one in my rear D2 axle and I can't say it makes... I'm a little disappointed. I should have choose a full locker.. but hey.... you learn from mistakes.

Watching your video, you pretty much answer your own question. As per the info on the Ashcroft website, if a wheel is off the ground, then yes thats going to be the failing with regards to how the ATB functions.

Aztech 4x4 mechanical I know that on Ashcroft site they say it won’t do much with one wheel on air but they are also saying it’s working very good in conjuction with traction control. When TC apply brake force to the spining wheel atb diff doesn’t have time to react.
ATB it’s nice on road because you won’t feel it compared to a plated type lsd diff which will try constantly to send torque between wheels and have strange behaviour, but it will be better off road.
PS: I didn’t know you can adjust diff play by turning those caps.

Again the diff needs to be checked before dis-assembly and then correctly adjusted as required on assembly. The end cap adjustment is a very standard method used on diffs

Any update on these, did they make a difference? Thanks

The Defender in this video and others like it are set up as remote travel or expedition work and carry quite a bit of weight. The ATB makes a big difference on these vehicles when used in such situations as heavy sand.
