  • A video made for those who may not have done this before. The procedure is the same if you are rebuilding a standard Rover Diff or are upgrading.
I will cover pinion height adjustment in a forthcoming video as my rear pinion needs adjustment to get a better pattern on the crownwheel.

Hi Nigel, love the video's and level of detail. Can you please tell me if the Ashcroft Limited Slip Diff ATB for the front is different from the rear so it does not affect steering?
I read that the pre load set up is different on front and rear to achieve different bias ratio's i.e. approx 2:1 on front compared to 3:1 on rear diff?
Not sure exactly what is required to achieve that, Truetrac can be purchased pre-configured for front or rear or by reversing the worm gears as shown on a youtube video by Neil at Fourby,.
Does the same principle apply to the Ashcroft LSD Torque Biasing Diff Centre as I have one to fit one to my front diff?
Thanks for the video's, keep up the great work, she must be nearly finished by now?

    Great video - thanks
If you were presented with two complete identical axles on the bench, one with an ATB and one without how would you test each to work out which was the one with the ATB? Cheers

The ATB diff looks different, but if the axles are assembled the first check would be turn one wheel, the opposite side would turn the same way with an ATB and in the opposite direction with an open diff. I assume one could lock one side into the vice with a half shaft and measure the torque required to turn the opposite side to judge how worn the diff is?

@@defender90keswick.nigelsla59 cheers. I wasnt sure with it being an ATB would both ends turn the same direction without one wheel needing some resistance. One to try when you build it up if you can? Cheers

Hi, I follow your videos with great passion, I like what you do, I ask, I saw that you use an ATB as a center differential, an ATB at the front, and an ATB at the rear ??? Will you use the stock one? Or do you plan to use a 100% block ???

Hi, The rear diff will be a locker from Ashcroft.

Are you thinking of replacing the front joints and drive shafts with reinforced ones? And also at the rear, will you eventually mount reinforced drive shafts?

@@andreav.2993 Not right now, I will more than likely do this at a later date, depending on what kind of use the Defender gets. TBH, I enjoy the building more than the driving..

Hi Nigel, have you ever had any issue with LR crown wheel bolts coming loose or shearing off?
