my guy did not do greatsword justice. a hell of a lot has changed with greatsword.
    1. hitting a focus strike lets you go straight into a TCS, this is most useful on rey daus fight as when he opens his face after a shot greatsword can focus strike on the head, then
rey dau will flinch for a second giving you just enough time to get the TCS follow up
    2. there seems to be a perfect bash now, if you bash through an attack at the right moment you will now KEEP YOUR CHARGE as in comparison to world where if you perfect bash you wont take damage but will have to recharge from 0. in wilds you can bash and not take damage but still have to recharge but if you hit the even tighter timing you wont take damage and keep charge. this is huge for more aggressive GS gameplay
    3. the follow up attack of an offset does just a little bit less that a fully charged TCS so its very viable and changes optimal gameplay of GS from chasing TCS to trying to hit offset. (you can see this in rey dau GS speedruns) this changes the entire gameplay loop of greatsword quite a lot
    4. perfect quard has massive implications for builds. now that guarding is viable with greatsword this opens huge build possibility with skills like offensive guard and actually having to consider guard up and guard skills so I imagine on full release we will see 2 types of GS builds evasion builds and guard builds. evasion/dodge builds will mostly work the same as in the other games but guard builds is where it gets interesting. the pros of guard builds could be huge, first you'll be capatalising on clashes a lot and will get them way more often than evasion builds and you'll get to benefit from guard specific skills like offensive guard but the trade of of guard builds is that for later game you will have to invest in guard skills which evasion builds don't have to worry about therefore giving the more slots for DPS or just some QOL.

I really like the guard counter with Lance. With every other shielding weapon getting a perfect guard its identity as the sole tanking weapon was in jeopardy. And that's when counter guard comes in: it incentivizes never letting up. If you just never stop attacking you'll find yourself very often at the end of a combo while the monster is rearing up to attack, at which point you can do an attack that also acts as a guard and keep attacking like nothing happened.
It took some time to get used to it, but it absolutely destroys if you can see it coming.

I don't want to be rude, but I've been playing Lance almost exclusively in every game since Freedom Unite, including the Wilds beta, and I feel like you might not have played it very much. Lance has Always been as much of a proper tank as the aggro system would allow, I don't think the guard attack really does much to change that, as cool as it is. Also if you use the power guard stance with good timing, it'll actually takes LESS stamina since it stops draining when you block with it. And I have to say I don't think the hitboxes for lance attacks have been small or hard to hit with, but that's really subjective.

Yea I got the same vibes when he talked about world horn. Like I dont think he really knew the weapon well enough to talk about its old iterations.

He’s not really a veteran just a 3U scrub not even a MHFU starter he began with 3U that’s like a 25 year old saying he’s been to WW2 lol. Anyhow the lances best thing is the mount. It does significantly better while on a mount than other melee weapons. You can finally joust properly with the lance.

I really liked the changes to Sword and Shield. It does everything I like about it but better. It's quick, adaptable, and precise. It cares more about careful positioning and controlling the flow of the fight than ever before. The way I play SnS in World and Rise is not exactly meta, so I can see why some people might not like them. But the weapon is still very potent if you use it well. Using it well is just a bit more involved and requires a lot of secondary knowledge not directly related to the weapon itself.

Everything you said about the SnS is what I feel about the insect glaive! Very interested to see your thoughts on it!

Lance feels off mainly because a lot of moves are be slowed down and/or higher recovery rates, leaping thrust, guard dash, high Thrust all three feel off as they are slowed down and even with some moves they move at different speeds
Counterthrust was always faster block then normal block
I have been working on new ways to make the High Thrust for Wilds feel better and I think this is the best way to help the Counter Thrust feel better in Wilds. I showed this to multiple people and think it would greatly help. High Thrust doesn't feel like it has its own identity that distinguishes and I feel like giving it a Press and Hold mechanic would help.
    High Thrust: O = Press
    Counter Thrust: Ô = Hold
    Mid Thrust A = Press
    Ô
    O + Ô
    O + O + Ô
    O + O + O + (O or Ô)
    A + O + Ô
    A + A + O + (O or Ô)
This way when performing the high Thrust it gives it more depth and holds a more traditional way of playing the Lance.
I feel like there might have been a bug as the last Thrust in the three-hit combo doesn't increase.

Hell yeahhh. Started playing monster hunter in world and it quickly became my favourite game of all time. Mained hunting horn in both world and rise, and I'm guessing I will again in wilds
