Magnificent. Passionate. I prefer Perlman's interpretation than that of Heifetz. Perlman's is about the feel of the Scottish aura. Heifetz, although perfect, somehow is his presence, his powerful persona (to me), comes through above Bruch's intent, the feel of the Fantasy for Scotland.
Compared to Heifetz, Perlman sounds like dirty armpits.
Besides, Heifetz's performance is cut on this recording. For that reason alone I would not consider it.😅
@aachoocrony5754 Then find someone else if you don't like Perlman. Heifetz's rendition is unfortunately cut.

브루흐가 너무나 그리워했던 고향을 노래해서 그런것인지, 그의 처참하게 망가진 예술가 인생을 알아서인지 모르겠어요.
그저 정말 그리운 향기가 납니다. 음악에서...
계속 반복되며... 돌아오는 테마가 저를 슬프게 해요.
결코 즐겁지만은 않은 곡입니다.

Shirley thanks for the information. We love this so much. WFMT introduced it to us, then we went right out and bought the vinyl. Once upon a time we had a fantastic stereo system and we would crank it up then play this...and of course, it was Itzvah Pearlman!

Une reponse inutile et un peu bête
Watched and listened alongside the Heifetz version. Fascinating. Hard to see how anyone could be better than Perlman… yet Heifetz is better. Perlman and the orchestra behind him does the piece perfectly. But… as they would often say on American Idol, Heifetz “took that piece and made it his own.”
I think this piece and the Korngold concerto are my 2 absolute favorite of Heifetz's recordings.

You are absolutely right. All others are influenced by Heifetz less or more.
For me, nobody plays it like David Oistrakh.

Heifetz recording is better but it is due to an inferior orchestra and conductor rather than Perlman being less than Heifetz.

Perlman makes a c major scale into a thing of unsurpassed beauty. In all my life , I've never heard. him give a poor performance. RIchard
