  • Not a full review as I did that 05 Ranger Edge. This is just a comparison of how the 2.3L 4 cylinder drives and feels.

    I found this channel Looking for videos on the Lincoln Continental. Ironically, I'm back to this channel watching a video for a Ranger I'm going to buy lol. Great video

    Just bought an 09 Ranger manual 2.3 xlt and I’m still having mixed feelings about it but I think I’ll fall in love with it soon

      Dude I am looking at one tomorrow on marketplace. I have been driving a 4.0 for the last 2 years, the 2.3 is literally perfect. You get good mpgs, it's sooo easy to work on compared to the 3.0/4.0 too.

    I have a 2011 with a 5 speed manual and don't take it past 3,500 rpms lol I'm afraid of blowing the engine. However it does have 294,000 miles and runs like new still.

    Excellent engine, the very short lived 2.5 was very good too. Much better than the junky Ecoboosts!

    Id love to have a 2.3 4 cylinder reg cab ranger for my economy truck daily driver pushing 30mpg and then my sport/offroad moded truck wud be a 4.3 supercharged Chevy S10 ZR2 with a 6L80e heaby duty transmision so i can add a mild performance cam ported polished heads 3.73 posi trac fear axle and pushing 400 horsepower. Able to handle well and beat mustangs and challengers on road but atill able to do great offroad to my fishing and hunting spots thru rough roads mud and anything offroad.

    The main thing i will be doing is towing 14ft orlando clipper aluminum boat on trailer w/ a jet drive.
    And then i get to you saying its not really meant for it lol. I hate the anxiety that comes with buying used vehicles

    Odd shifts are like a stepped CVT (mimicking shift points) definitely different for Ford.

      By this point all rangers regardless of engine came with the 5R55E 5 speed auto. And it does indeed have some sort somewhat oddly spaced gear ratios compared to some other 5 speed automatics I've driven. I have one in my 99 Explorer.

    • @Grafyte
      @Grafyte 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's (in principle) a 3 speed auto with an overdrive unit tacked on. 1st + overdrive and 3rd + overdrive give you 2 extra gears on top of the original 3. (2nd + overdrive is basically 3rd so it's unused). Not too much you can do with that kind of setup.

    Is this engine better/more reliable than the 4.0 V6?

    • @mravocadoman2904
      @mravocadoman2904 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Some say the 4.0 is solid, but the 2.3 is probably just as good if not more, just not in power of course, but is a very simple engine. Probably cheaper to replace altogether too. Much better in gas mileage too

    • @mravocadoman2904
      @mravocadoman2904 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      But I did have an '02 Explorer with the 4.0 and it was very solid and smooth. It had a bit of an oil leak but I gave it away before I was able to figure out what was up with it. Otherwise, it was amazing. I have yet to own something with a 2.3, but I have heard great things. It's basically a Mazda engine, so it should be just fine

      I had a 2002 FX4 with the manual trans and they are now known as the rattle of death. 63,000, first a little every morning, then out on an OHV road in the mountains and didn't think I'd even make it home. Yes the rear timing chain, the dealer swiped the timing chain tensioners from a Coyote engine for me since we've bought 3 cars from them otherwise would have cost me 6K rather than the bit over 1K. Traded it away.

      Virtually every ranger has a payload in excess of 1,000 pounds. They tend to squat real bad, but they usually are within 10% of matching the low capacity F-150s of the *equivalent* year in payload capacity until like 2007
