I got a fun story:
I was cosplaying as Sakura at Sakura-con(ironic I know) and there was a Fire Emblem cosplay photoshoot and meet up. As soon as I got there, a woman dressed as Camilla walked up and said "Oh my gosh you're adorable can I hug you?" We were hanging around before the photoshoot, but we noticed that LITERALLY NO OTHER HOSHIDANS SHOWED UP. Saddened that my family failed to come, I was taken by Camilla over to our Xander (the carrot one) and they decided to adopt me. We got a lovely family picture to commemorate the moment! XD Sorry Takumi, but I'm Nohrian scum now

My first time playing Fates I thought Takumi was the most unbearable thing ever, but after playing all three routes and realizing that I wasn't super into the game, I started to find Takumi as my favorite character just out of irony. I feel like Takumi's one of those characters who's fan interruption has been ingrained into my mind better than the canon version. Does that ever happen to anyone else with characters they like?
Alejandro Benett I’m pretty sure that’s why Fates characters are so popular. Since a lot of characters are very badly written, you can interject your own head canon and make the characters actually really good.
I think the most obvious one is Camilla, since she has one vague line of dialogue, which fans took as her killing her siblings. This explains her overbearing on her other siblings, since she feels she most make up for her past mistakes. That’s not a bad backstory, the problem is Fates never mentions that, it’s all head canon.
That’s not say they’re all bad characters, some good Characters that come to mind are Leo, Takumi, and Laslow. Laslow has the advantage of 2 games worth of dialogue, and the best ship in the game. (You know which one.) Now, Leo and Takumi are also well written characters, but they have the advantage of consistency within the Supports and Plot, which not many Fates characters have.
In fact, if you divorce the characters from the story, your characters are not that bad. The problem is, the way the characters act in the main story, completely contradict their character in the supports, and even sometimes in the story itself. The main problem of Fates, with the characters at least, is the characters serve the plot, instead of the plot being built around the characters.
Alejandro Benett i pretty much was uncomfortable with tharja at first (because of her stalking my character and all) but once i read her supports they actually show that she has a good heart deep down! i grew to like her soon enough
(i can do without the stalking, though...)
Different series entirely, but Adachi from Persona 4 is pretty similar. You kinda forget he's a serial killer who tried to rape people, and just remember him for the cabbage memes and other jokes.

As much as the FE community hates Fates, I absolutely adored the game. I'm glad to see that Nintendo also loves the game, although maybe to much at times and that pisses off older fans, but Fates is honestly probably my favorite game of all time.

The Story overall Sucks but that's basically what happens if you split into three teams to make essentially 3 different games. But the gameplay good but if only they could have the gameplay of this and the story telling of Echoes and Path of Radiance.
OnyxKing67 Yeah, Warriors and Heroes show that a lot of the main characters weren’t really that bad, they were just stuck in a story that gave them no ability to exercise their goodness.
And the story was a product of biting off more than they could chew with development. Wasted potential, but I can “fill in the blanks” so to speak with things they didn’t get to develop enough, and it’s not so bad in the end. Certainly not loathesome.
Storys origin was soo cool and had great potential but they destroyed the potential with bad writing and plotholes

My favorite character from fate is Camilla, not for the fanservice ;) but she’s badass, and she’s love her family seriously everyone saw two things : her yandere face and ... her boobs .... but she’s mature, she’s feminine and strong, in a support with Nils, he talk that she save a puppy and it goes back to the fact that she protects Corrin just because she has pity for him, after that she’s not replic but think, and I wonder if she know it’s true but she’s continue to protect Corrin because she has pity for him but love too ( in my opinion ^.^)

Haha, mine is Corrin. I don't know, for me they were so, kind and naive but strong and determined for me. Their whole backstory appeals to me greatly and I love them dearly no matter what the others say. I also love Camilla as a great big sister and all of the siblings like, hell, they are all great and playing as Corrin I feel so loved by them. As somebody who's a veteran of the franchise, I _adored_ Fire Emblem Fates, even in spite of the terrible story. Yeah, the narrative wasn't good at all, but so what? That’s a single bad thing in a sea of great gameplay, music and visuals. Heck, I even loved the characters to pieces in spite of the narrative’s faults, and Corrin is perhaps my favorite lord in the entire series... and yes, I've played almost all of the other FEs, including Tellius. Just look at whom my account pic's modeled after.
Fates really does deserve a lot more respect in the FE fandom, TBH. Even counting the story, it's a very good game.
I disagree about it being a good FE game mostly because it fails in both story and gameplay in all three paths. It did improve Awakening's pairup system I'll grant it that.

For me, Fates was GotY-worthy material, but just because others dislike it doesn't make them "elitist" by any stretch of the imagination. People said I had "bad taste" for enjoying Fates as a whole, but that's no excuse to accuse you of such baseless slander.

I really liked it. sure the story needed a lot of reworking to fix it, but the gameplay was really good and so were the characters (although I really think Xander had some potential because his supports are great but then the story version of him almost directly contradicts the good character we had)
Ryker Hunt I agree, and I love Xander too! Though I do agree there's several inconsistencies in story and support Xander (even though I disagree with Ghast on the subject of Fates' quality, I like his videos and his Xander analysis was good), but IMO it _kind of_ makes sense given he's coping with his dad doing a 180 in morality.
I still think the narrative could've been reworked into something really good, though, and that's a bit of a bummer.
I think people should stop talking about fates as a single game because of the sheer difference in quality between the three (Conquest > Birthright >>> Revelations in my opinion), causing people's expressed opinions to either get dragged down or inflated due to a lack of communication.

Conquest was just too damn hard, it made me quit lol I was playing out of spite, because I wanted to see the 3 routes... but goddamn, this game is bloated and the grind never ends. Finished the Birthright campaign, it was underwhelming... switched to female Corrin (huge upgrade), but Conquest was just too much, how many hours... like 50? It's just too much, I read the wiki to know the plot of Revelations and call it a day, Fates is a above average game at best

I mean, the overgrown hate boner for this game is kind of justified, but I enjoyed all of the three version nonetheless. You get to choose between a meme run with a lobster god which can easily solo the entirety of the game, an actually challenging gamemode with a deep plot (which also kinda got me in the feels and I don't know why), and the stupidest meme run of them all, where you get to play as Swordmaster Xander with the Ryoma Mask accessory on it.
Overall, Fates is still a good game. It's not necessarily the best one, but I'm still having a blast with it. Holding your breath with the psycho string music accordion im the background while 5hp Conquest Corn is being engaged by a full health Berserker is really fun.

Fates is my favorite Fire Emblem entry even though I played Awakening first. Love that the release date in Japan was on my birthday! Very fitting lol.

This is gonna be an extremely unpopular opinion, but even after playing a bunch of older games, conquest is still probably my favorite game of all time (including other genres). The gameplay was just amazing in conquest specifically. Idrc for birthright and revelation (Also I voted for corrin in the ballot and sprained my wrist cuz I fell from excitement 😂)
To be completely honest I'm not bothered by Male Corrin as much as Female Corrin. The waifu-chasing fans have officially made me hate her.

I liked Fates when it came out. I enjoyed it. Honestly, it's probably a 7 or 8 outta 10. I know the story is flawed, as well as the characters, but I dunno, there was just some charm that made me enjoy it. The visual representation was solid, as well as the audio. Gameplay was definitely more balanced than Awakening, but still had it's quirks. Maps varied, some we're annoying, some kinda interesting, and Conquest was definitely best gameplay-wise. And it was the first FE game where archers were good! Although the skinship mode always felt awkward as fuck. I'm actually glad it was toned down in the English release (And Saizo and Beruka's C Support is hilarious, don't @ me).

I actually do prefer male Corrin over female Corrin. Reasons: he's got a cool design, transforms into a dragon, uses a chainsaw sword, a nice character I can somewhat relate to, and an awesome voice actor.

I'm happy I enjoyed Fates very much and I even loved the story, was even glad to have lost in thoughts all alone stuck in my head for weeks.
Fire Emblem Awakening's success had nothing to do with the game itself, it was timing. Notice how the previous game, Radiant Dawn, came out right around Mario Galaxy, thus overshadowing it completely. Awakening came out right around the 3ds price drop, was one of two RPGs for the system, and at the time Bravely Default was old news. Not to mention, yaknow, THEY ACTUALLY ADVERTISED FOR THE DANG THING.
"awakening saves the franchise" is getting tiring, but we won't see the end of it soon....even after like what, six years?? Brainless defensive bunch.

Fates was my first FE game, and I wanted to get into the franchise after I picked Corrin up as my main. I really really enjoyed the game. Especially Birthright. Elise, Ryoma, Xander, Takumi, and Corrin were all great characters to be honest, and I love their designs. I had a ton of fun and I I honesty enjoyed the story. Plus the soundtrack is amazing. Fates was my first FE game, and yeah I'm gonna admit I'm biased, but I love Fates.

I bought Fates so I could play a tactical rpg, not to watch a movie about a kid who can't decide if he wants to live at his mom's or dad's place. Story is one of the last things I look for in a game. I want to see people beat the shit out of each other instead of reading text about how Elise started selling flowers in the hood.
