Fun fact, later side material tries to retcon Corrin and Azura by stating that Mikoto and Arete are "sisters in spirit", rather than blood, so Corrin and Azura aren't actually cousins.
In fact: The translation is just wrong. It's not retconning, they did a wrong translation, it was always meant to be sister in spirit. It's just not a word/sentence usually used in english, that's where the confusion probably came from.

Whats the funniest bit is Leo and Corrin's married conversation in the JP Halloween DLC. tldr: Corrin wants to fulfill a childhood dream of hers. It's to spoil Leo as a big sister. He points out that they're married but she insists just this once. The undertones at the end were something else.
On the Incest thing Fates has an official family tree for the royals which came in the art book and it revealed Corrin *isn't* Azura's cousin.
Mikoto just referred to Arete as her sister but they arn't blood related cause this is Fates no one who says they're related to someone is actually related to them.

That and in Revelations her openly flirting and having a crush on Ryoma in the story (despite only having a sexual preference for Corn.) Then again I love alot of the supports with Corrin, plus would rather have a Avatar only support rather than a unit with literally no supports. *Glares at Three Houses Anna* Could have had Rhea instead... for routes like Silver Snow or Verdant Wind... buttttt nooooo.

@@navadax4541 Who knows maybe, maybe not. data mining shows that the assets for Rhea, Sothis, Jeralt, and Anna were in the game for being recruitable units. Crit quotes, supports, bond increase and decrease, tea times, etc.
If I had to assume Jeralt was meant to be the Jagen of Three houses, but they decided to just make him a npc since the game is already so easy, but you can see remains with the fact you can still gain or lose bonding with Jeralt based on dialogue options despite the fact there are no supports. Rhea was actually supposed to be recruitable but got cut due to time constraints and conflict with what route she could be recruited. Sothis has alot of crit and battle dialogue left over, and even has a character model and animations in battle that are still in the game with the Sothis Shield mechanic.
So who knows what could have happened, just like with the Crimson Flower route being unfinished/rushed to meet the deadline.

Ah, Revelations, the fates route of arbitrary sections of the map where you have to wait, and being able to make Severa marry a genderbent version of her mother, and birth a...kid version of her mother. (Don't get me wrong, Caeldori is cool and all, but she's literally just Cordelia. At least Asugi was kinda different)
And this was done intentionally. There is even a special support where Selena compairs her to Cordelia.

Caeldori didn’t have Cordelia’s annoying obsession with Chrom tho, so that was a huge plus.

I mean, aside from Jakob, most of the dudes in this game are either not that interesting, are related to you, or are literally just the awakening cast, the furries are probably the most interesting choices that you may likely haven’t seen already... of course I just picked them because how can you not love the puppy husbandos?
@@gameb9oy I mean, I pretty much only ended up becoming an FE fan because I saw a critical hit quote compilation video for FE: Fates and saw one of the units was a giant fox and ended up liking the game beyond just a single character's physical appearance.
But regardless of how I first decided to get Fates, Kaden is unironically one of my favourite Fates characters because, unlike a lot of the cast who are dealing with some sort of struggle, whether an actual struggle such as Charlotte wanting to support her family or a mental struggle like Takumi's inferiority complex, Kaden's just a cheerful and friendly guy who tries to get along with everyone just because that’s how he is. He’s just a genuinely nice guy that wants to help people and, if more people could just be like that, the world would be a better place. Sometimes, you just need a cheerful himbo fox-boy in your life.
I usually marry Azura to Kaden cuz Kaden is cool I like him he gets to marry Azura cuz I can't or else who will marry Owain and carry the Robin bloodline

@@OkMakuTree I feel like the main issue is how much work you have to put into Orochi as a Magic unit. She can't take a hit to save her life, yet is also unlikely to hit anything herself. Though I feel like the main use for Hoshidan magic units was overall how they could tank or counter magic damage. Plus with the meta heavily leaning towards crit and dodge tank Ninjas its understandable why mages would fall behind. Rinkah also falls behind despite being a good unit. She actually makes for a monstrously good Malig knight if you grind her up into Oni Chieftain for the skills and mag gains and then reclass her into Malig Knight or Wyvern Rider then Promote her. Orochi is just difficult to utilize despite her wonderful character... then again at least she isn't as handicapped as Hayato.
@@francisharkins I don't really agree with your assessment that Orochi requires high investment to use. She definitely isn't a frontline tank but she's very effective in her role as a magic specialist. Orochi has 3 good stats: a ridiculously high magic growth, a reliable skill growth, and a solid resistance growth. That should inform how you use her; as an accurate magic nuke to pick off low res units and as a counter to other mages. As long as you're selective in how you position her and who you engage, Orochi functions well. Orochi's poor speed isn't even that much of an issue thanks to scrolls like Horse Spirit/Snake Spirit, and since Birthright features an abundance of ninja and samurai she can reach the necessary thresholds to double slow units or avoid getting doubled by faster units with the right pair up partner. She does indeed benefit greatly from being reclassed, and Dark Knight in particular can help to sure up her middling physical bulk. But honestly Orochi functions perfectly well in her base class as an Onmyoji. Beyond that, Orochi has the unique skill of Capture in Birthright and is the only user with a reasonable join time in Revelation, adding to her value as a unit. It's by no means a necessary skill in ordinary play throughs, but it's of great value in challenge runs.
All in all I think Orochi is a reliably good unit in Birthright, especially if you're playing more casually. She's extra helpful in the final 6 chapters of the game when Nohr starts sending heaps of Generals and Great Knights at your army, which your physical 1-2 range units are going to struggle to one round even with effective weaponry. Even in more serious runs like LTC's, Orochi still contributes in a meaningful way by capturing enemy units with good stats and valuable skills. Given, I don't think LTC strategies would factor too heavily into a character's popularity since the majority of people voting are probably more casual players, but still no matter how you cut it Orochi is a pretty decent unit overall. So I don't feel comfortable attributing Orochi's low popularity to her performance as a unit. Maybe I am completely wrong but that's my 2 cents on the matter.

Yeah, Fire emblem is such a fun series, but even after all the games I have played in the series, I find myself liking Fates the most. Granted I can't play 3Hs. I just found myself liking the music, the locations, and the characters more overall.
It's just nice to know other people like this game. The community can get toxic when it comes to fates xD I knew people that wanted to kick new members from an FE discord just for liking Fates.

I just got Revelations last month and I'm on Chapter 25 right now. I want to finish it before watching this completely. Btw Flying Units are broken in this path. You can literally fly over the Infinite Gimmicks that Revelation has almost every map.
Flying units are broken in every fire emblem games, they have insane dodge rates and aren't affected by terrain. Wyvern lord's are basically armored knights on wings so their arrow "weakness" is basically null.
Felicia can do more damage than most other units if you equip her with the weapons the ninjas are supposed to have. In my conquest playthrough I was amazed how she carried
I’ll also add that her magic stats and growths are better than her strength, so she’s pretty lethal when equipped with a magic weapon (i.e. flame shuriken)

Going through this with your videos reminds me why I forgot so much of these not-so-great stories but still had high opinions on the gameplay itself. I always thought I was a little crazy for enjoying them as much as I did but to see other people have the same general takeaway of "the story is stupid but the gameplay is pretty good" makes me happy. I'm probably a weird outlier because Echoes is my favorite of the series with Binding and Genealogy being close contenders for the next spot. Either way, another solid video and I am really glad I stumbled on your channel about a year ago.
You aren't alone in loving Echoes. Id say its my favorite too. I loved how it made bows more than just tomes with worse range.

Maybe it's that the Castle is so much less, but I do like Fates a bit more than 3H. The characters are sillier sure, but the Teacher academy customization thing is just too much sometimes

I think you are the first person I've ever heard said they found Revelations's maps to be fun.
Fates to me is an overall subpar game with really fun and engaging gameplay. The gameplay loop, music, and visuals are great for the platform its on, but the story and writing really put a hamper on the experience. Full voicing acting might have helped with giving the game's story and character interactions more weight, but it would not have saved the god awful writing and story. If I were to choose my overall favorite of the three paths it would probably Revelation, mostly because of the amount of replay value and more freedom with things to do in the game. Conquest has the the best map design out of the three paths and Birthright has the strongest story (even if it is generic and still riddled with writing problems). If I were to rate the game from a 1-10 scale, it would probably be a 6.5 out of 10. Not utterly terrible, but not anything amazing. Plus there are much better FE games out there like Path of Radiance, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Three Houses, and the GBA games.

Fun fact. The first cousin information was actually a translation error from the Japanese to the english version. And this is backed up by the fact the Western version of Fates has alot of translation errors already even in critcally important dialogue or plot points. The team that worked on the dubbing and translation for Fates also happily took creative liberty's to change the script despite times when they had the correct translation. Such as the main song of the game "Lost in Thought"

Imo revelations isnt as bad as people say. While the maps are gimmicky they at least tried to do something interesting. The character sandbox is incredible though. You can hard optimize super children.
Also the final battle of fighting your dragon god dad in between worlds with a Japanese lobster man and European justice knight using a flaming chainsaw sword is amazing lol.

So this was not only my first route but my first ever Fire Emblem game I've played and beaten. Many people despise this game and some of the people that enjoyed it. I can say without hesitation, this game made me a Fire Emblem fan. You can say that I'm an idiot for not playing Awakening or Three Houses first but I chose Fates first. The spark of said interest was years back when I watched Etika and he hyped the game a lot when talking about it and playing it. Smash Bros also helped with that given how unique Corrin was and gave me another character to enjoy and main along my the other mains. I didn't had a 3Ds at the time but I told myself if I ever got one make sure to get these two games, Mega Man ZX and Fire Emblem Fates. Around early-mid 2019 I did just that and I enjoyed the game for what it had to offer. Yes it being very beginniner friendly helped and the story is feels plastered in (Even though I do like Conquest's story) but I looked past that with the gameplay, characters, yes even Corrin and especially the music. (I honestly hate that people don't talk about Fates OST much and just joke about Lost of Thoughts All Alone and I despise that Smash Ultimate only has that for Fates music) In early last year I got Three Houses and beat Verdant Wind, currently playing Azure Moon. I do intend to get Awakening as well. I've beaten all paths in Fates and I'm even playing Revelations a second time currently. So regardless of how much hate it gets I thank Fates for bringing me into the Fire Emblem series and I look forward to the next entry whenever that time comes.

Revalations was my favorite and Conquest was my least favorite. I liked the concept of Valla and thought it was an intresting setting along with the ability to have almost all the characters. Conquest to me seemed to do a poor job selling why Corrin would actually side with Noir. Especially with the King and Iago trying to kill you multiple times and assuming you are a traitor the whole time.
How to make Revelations story "slightly" better.
- Marry Scarlet and complete her supports with Kana
- Go through chapter 18 (her death)
- Free her spirit
- Find out it was Gunther who killed her
- Avenge her by killing Anankos

Also dating in this game is weird, like.. there are so many missed opportunities with some characters, Reina for example. Children dating adults is also very very weird, and the whole time-chamber children thing is just stupid. I think Awakening did it the best, but in general kid units without a serious time-skip is just utterly stupid. Blazing Sword and Binding Blade had "timeskips" between the games, and you controlled the children of many characters, I think that's how you should be doing it. That's why I'm excited for the Genealogy and Thracia remake.

Will you do the Heirs of Fate DLC story? It follows the kids and it has better writing than the main 3 titles although I understand it's more money to be spent I'd say it's worth it.

the stuff about Lilith and more bs is explained in the DLC if you're willing to play it. there's also the Heirs of Fate DLC series starring Kana and has a story that actually makes sense

Also married Azura in all three routes only for the game to tell me "Hey that's your cousin" after i'd alread had 2 completely busted children with maxed skills.
Azura as a Great Lord or Dread Fighter is fun as hell

So many people like to shit on Revelations, but I find it's got some of the most experimental maps found throughout the series. Like it or not, you can't deny that it's probably got some of the most interesting/strangest maps to experience.
