    One other benefit of building a rig, as opposed to a pre-built, is the manufacturer's warranty on each part. Pre-built manufacturers charge extra to cover the cost of the hardware manufacturer's warranty.

    For $46 more you can get Paul's original 500 dollar AMD build of 2019 because it is only $396 rn. You get a quad core AMD Ryzen 2200G 16GB RAM the MSI B450 Tomahawk and the cooler master master box lite 5 with 3 RGB fans. Im surprised how the price dropped from February to now. I built the PC as my first build and i love it! Definitely worth the $46 more. Oh also a 480GB Team SSD.
    Edit: when i built it around the holidays it was $396 its actually $410 dollars as of December 29th 2019. I still think worth it if you have a little extra cash to spend.

    I agree with this on the basis of new parts. On the hand of used parts, you could get 3x to 4x the gaming and workstation performance with a much larger amount of storage with a 6c12th or 8c16th cpu with 3.3ghz all core boost with going x79/x99 (depending on if you want ddr3 or ddr4)

    For a low budget gaming PC, take a look at the i3 9100F. Just 4C4T but single and quadcore performance beats a 2700x. In most games you'll get higher fps than with the 2700x and also it's just 75€ atm. The CPU cooler isn't that good but when using headphones it isn't that bad either. With this CPU you'll need dedicated graphics and here it comes to your choice. I suggest the 1650S it's just 160€ and handles most if not all games 60fps in fHD with high or max settings. If prefering AMD you can get the 5500xt but the 570 and 580 are also good options. When using a dedicated GPU you don't need 16gb of RAM. You can go with 2x4gb and upgrade later to 4x4gb.
    All in all you'll spend under 500€ but get steady 60fps in all games.
    CPU: Intel I3 9100F - 75€
    GPU: Inno3d 1650S - 160€
    PSU: Corsair VS 450 - 37€
    SSD: Patriot P200 512gb - 54€
    MB: Gigabyte B365m - 73€
    Ram: Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz 2x4gb - 39€
    Case: BitFenix Nova - 35€
    ~ 480€
    Note that these are prices in Germany and may be higher or even lower where you live

    I like your style! I always see other people make budget builds that perform better than this one, by use cheap parts. I’m one to use higher quality parts for budget builds, so the fact you’re using at least 80+ bronze and a Samsung drive rather than 80+ white and an Adata drive makes it better for me!

  • @blazetownsend8785
    @blazetownsend8785 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that mechanical hard drives are still a functional way for OS's. However, you will get better loading times with a SSD of any kind. The benefit is more space at lower costs with a mechanical drive. You will not get more FPS from a SSD, just better loading times. If you use a separate HDD for storing just games, load times are very much different from sata SSD's in many cases. SSD's do better multitask loads in general, which is why a SSD is good for a OS but a mechanical drive is not a option I would opt out of if you need that space though.

      1600 af or 3300x both would be very strong gaming chips just depends how much cash you have left for a graphics card.If money is super super tight short term get the discrete graphics card and upgrade the cpu later.

  • @michaelmcchesney6645
    @michaelmcchesney6645 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think there is one additional component that most people will want even more than a discrete GPU and that is a Wifi card. Personally, I would insist on a card that also handled Bluetooth. I can see that there are serious gamers with high end systems that will run cables just to reduce latency and get a more reliable connection. But I think a person building a budget gaming PC is probably going to be fine with the limitations of Wifi and therefore be more likely to want a wireless card so they can position their system where it is most comfortable and convenient. The last time I ran an ethernet cable to a desktop was probably 2008.

  • @ArtifactSkyline
    @ArtifactSkyline 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    When it comes to configuring RAM allocation for the APU's iGPU, set it as low as you can. If the iGPU runs out of dedicated memory it will flood over to the rest of the RAM, which it is already using anyways. So you get the most RAM for your system that you can for normal use. I don't remember where I read/heard this, I think it may have been hardware unboxed of gamers nexus, when the 2200G came out.

    A Ryzen 9 should not even be a consideration if you don't even have a dedicated GPU yet. In fact, you should probably get a graphics card first of all before even thinking about going to a Ryzen 5. The Athlon 3000G, despite being weak would still benefit greatly from a dedicated GPU, and a Ryzen 3 even more so.

      We're talking about an extremely budget $350 rig with Athlon 3000G and no dGPU. Ryzen 1600 would mean that you have to spend at least $100 (used) or $150 for a dedicated GPU and raise the total by almost 40% to $485. It's a different category.

      Kinda. Those things are pretty fucking important and you wouldn't want to cheap out on any of them if you think about it. But usually people go with a good PSU and trash everything else and put the big bank money on CPU/GPU.

    • @cptspunion
      @cptspunion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I wouldn't argue that standpoint, good solid storage and power is very important and annoying to upgrade imo. Would definitely second also spending a little more on a mobo also as that's a very important, generally long standing part of a build.

    • @lucasz8825
      @lucasz8825 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If I'm being honest, I prefer to budget in favor of everything but the cpu, gpu, and cpu cooler. Not for everything else to be overkill, but it would make upgrading super easy; just slot in a new cpu or gpu and watch as the frames increase! I'd put most of the budget into the psu, then mobo, then storage, then ram. After that the case, and everything else necessary for the pc _except_ the cpu and gpu (those are what I prefer to be the most entry level of the build). This allows for a quick and easy upgrade, like I mentioned before. Any thoughts on this build idea? (This probably only goes for a system below $1000ish, after that a more balanced build is much more effective than the above strategy)

    • @mrxanthios7045

      Expensive psus are a myth. With power usage going down with every generation and SLI being essentially dead u don't need those 750+ watts monstrosities. @@mrxanthios7045 The great value RX 580 uses quite a lot of power. The NVIDIA RTX line uses more power than the previous GTX models. Having said that, few people need 750+ W power supplies. I'm going to buy exactly everything in the build and will come back on this video for the step by step tutorial, I bought a pre built pc that was 2.5X the price of this pc and yet it has the qualities of a 2015 office pc. Wish me luck!

      God no don’t buy the parts on this pc
      It’s absolutely a shitty ass build I can build a pc that will run circles around this build for less to the same amount of money

      Before you build this, I want to suggest a better combo but you may have to go for used parts.
      This setup:
      Ryzen 3 1200 ($60)
      Gigabye AORUS M ($90)
      EVGA 500W Bronze ($50)
      [some random case] ($40)
      8gb ram, ddr4 3000 [whichever brand is cheap and on the qvl] ($30-40)
      Radeon RX 550, 560, 290, etc. ($60-$100)
      Kingston A400 or WD blue 1TB: ($30-40)
      This adds to about 380-440 dollars, but it is miles better than the PC in this video. As I mentioned before, if you go for used, you will definitely be able to get this down to $350. Hell, if you have a micro center you can even get it to $350.

    And some are shipped by different people

    Can't believe you can build so much cheaper in US/Canada ._.
    This exact same build would cost me +/- €379 (=$420 USD) in The Netherlands, that's 20% more

    • @Eli-si4zf
      @Eli-si4zf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick 'RlCK' that’s because of the Value Added Tax

    • @yurimow
      @yurimow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      as far as i know that's the same with everything you buy online. prices on us online shops are displayed without tax, because taxes are different from state to state and you pay the tax of the state you live in. In the eu when you buy online VAT is displayed, because you pay the tax of the country you buy from (which is about 20% everywhere)

      Sticker prices in Canada are higher than USA, a $100 item in USA will cost about $145 in Canada and has a higher sales tax rate on top of the prices.

    • @Rick020
      @Rick020 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@yurimow Oh, really? I never knew this. That makes so much sense. So in reality the difference is minimum? VAT here is 21%, in USA it's 10% according to Google search?

    • @mduckernz
      @mduckernz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rick020 Yeah, it will still be more expensive, but not such an outrageously large amount after the adjustment
      (I feel similarly. Computer parts are also more expensive here in New Zealand)

    AMD Ryzen 3 2200G will be a better choose for starter build in my opinion, I saw it for $70-$77 on Amazon with discounts.

      Or even a 3200g for like 20 more dollars I don't know why he chose the 3000g and other tech TH-camrs are doing the same

    So it's a starter PC build, not a starter "gaming" PC build because without a dedicated gpu you will get unplayable frames on any new games.

    • @EmblemParade
      @EmblemParade 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why assume that all gamers want to play new games? Remember that new games cost a lot, too. The kind of people going for a budget PC would also go for discounted (older) games. Or e-sports games, which are fine on iGPUs.

    Loved the video Paul. This is one reason I have been recommending AMD to my friends that have to start out with a low end system but will upgrade slowly. I agree I would like to see the performance analysis of the base system and the with an upgrade path similar to what a person would upgrade. I.E. graphics card then new cpu, and continue on up from there to the highest end AMD system that can be built at this time. Thanks again and keep up the awesome work. Happy holidays!!!

      @FreeZz this particular tester gets 150-180 fps due in part to his impressive 4.1GHz overclock. It's likely the average userbenchmark tester has trash ram.
