    On a ryobi 40v inverter and using a ryobi 6ah 40v battery I ran a electric blanket rated at 100 watts, or so for nearly 8 hours on the low setting. you have to remember electric blankets are not intended to be used by themselves out in the open. they are to be under another blanket. even in nearly freezing temperatures there really should be no need to run a blanket near there highest settings if your following the golden rule of combatting cold weather with Layers.

      Can you use a 100 watt inverter

    Assuming the blanket uses no more than 1.5amps on a 110v circuit. In theory wouldn't the blanket last around 5 or more hours on a 100ah deep cycle car battery? Using an efficient inverter that is.

    What is the wave form of the inverter? What is the efficiency of the inverter? Wht not use an amp counter to depict the true power consumption? Why not use a blanket with a temp regulator? If the electric blanket was covered with even a light blanket (a normal situation would result be different? A sleeper under the E/B would produce a different result. The test parameters seem to be designed to produce a skewed result and negative conclusion. Thank you for the effort, hopefully constructive criticism will provoke another test.

      You make some good points that show you have a great perception on the physics of the content of this video. I saw this as a nice demonstration, yeah it wasn't laboratory standards but a real person with a normal life that is still getting comments on a 3 year old video.

    Have you tried same motorcycle battery with a 12VDC blanket . Adding what whatage is blanket using and how many AH is battery?

    How about testing on off grid electrical storage battery banks.
    I should clarify. I want to go off roading in the winter and I’m wondering how big of a solar powered power bank I’ll need for a heated blanket.

    Truckers hava 12 volt small heating blankes using maybe 50 watts .. how long would two 6 volt golf cart batytyeries last> The truck units use timers..

    I would be interested to see this test with a car battery and the blanket on low setting, great video!

    I think this is a good metric. It would be nice to know what the wattage of your blanket is, running both sides like that. I was looking to run a much smaller (twin) blanket set much lower from something like a jumpstarter

    i want to use a deep cycle battery . 27 group. NO INVERTER..............and cut off end of wires of the 12v blanket and plug the wires. directly into a deep cycle battery!!! is it possible

    Is that a pure sine wave inverter? I heard modified sine wave inverters could smoke the blanket Controller

    • @FutonStories
      @FutonStories ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably okay for this application but I would advise you to avoid using modified sine wave on electronics such as computers, cell-phones, laptops, speakers, etc. due to their small circuitry being at risk of a voltage spikes.

    How long would a 12 volt banket with the cigarette lighter connector last on a car battery do you think

    • @juanzamarripa3778
      @juanzamarripa3778 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few hours on low before you permanently damage your starting battery. In an emergency pinch situation, by all Means go for it, but other than that, you should run these types of electronics off a large capacity lithium ion battery or a reputable AGM battery. Lithium batteries can be fully discharged with no harmful effects to battery, but also most expensive. AGM or deep cycle batteries can be discharged to no less than 40% before permanently damaging them.

    I have a trial id like to see.....i got a 12v seat heating pad ....9.99 at bed bath beyond .....id like to see how long you get off a jump.pack ...skip the inverter by pluging the 12v cig cord from the pad into the jump box 12v outlet...or a 12v outlet adaptor on boxes withput 12v outlet....wanna use it for camping or if stuck in the snow....withput draining the car battery

    A good electric blanket has thermostat. When in real use there is you over the blanket and a thick whool insulating blanket. Result may be better.

    they make 12 dc electric sleeping bags and blankets. I wouldn't think open ground 120 AC would be good outside or camping.

    For an emergency, to reheat when very cold, this would be nice to have. The rest if the time, just wear lots of layers and suck it up. ;)

    You gotta measure the voltage while the battery is under load. You keep disconnecting it to measure the voltage which is kinda pointless.

    • @FuriouslyFurious
      @FuriouslyFurious 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incorrect. Battery voltage needs to be measured off load, not under load. Battery voltage had a "sag" under load, which isn't a true measure.

    • @ElGatoLoco698
      @ElGatoLoco698 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FuriouslyFurious Of course the voltage will sag under load. That's the whole point. That's what batteries do. Can the battery power an electric blanket. That is what you're testing isn't it? If the battery voltage drops too low, then you're damaging the battery INCLUDING and especially under load. The only measurement that's important is under load. If you're running that battery down to 12 volts in 30 minutes, you're seriously shortening it's life. You're trying to pull way too many amps.

    • @FuriouslyFurious
      @FuriouslyFurious 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ElGatoLoco698 I guess we'll agree to disagree here. From all the research I've done, measuring the true voltage of a flooded LA battery should be done without a load and after some time to allow the battery to rest.

    Would be a better idea to use a 12v blanket so you're not wasting power on the Inverter. Could be an extra 5 mins!! 😄👍😎❤️

    I ran a true 12v electric blanket for 6 days on a 12v 900cca deep cycle battery.
    HOWEVE it had automatic shutoff every 45 minutes
    I wish I could hack the timer or find one that doesn't automatically shut off every 45 minutes.
    I tried the reptile heating pad timer hack but that failed.

      Peter S. Depending on sq ft of course. I did 1200 sq ft hydronic system with 5 zones. Dual Purpose on demand hot water system. Everyone thought I was nuts. Well, had coldest winter in 25 years and after ADDING 1200 sq ft to the house our gas bill went DOWN $25. Pump is 12 volt so electric is nothing. I’ve also done 20 sq ft bathroom w electric mesh floor heat. Timer system on it was great, however it worked fast enough to where you could hit it, take shower and door was warm when you got out.

    Running solar panels on top of the cargo van too generate enough heat for electric blanket in the back temperatures are dropping to 18 it's December 2022 log 17 running electric blanket through solar panels on top of cargo van this is a breakthrough I am now generating enough heat off of a couple hours of sunlight during the winter time nor to generate heat from my electric blanket

    good to know / sometime that's all you need to jump start the sleeping bag heat anyways . next day hook battery up solar panel till nightfall and do it again 😎 and that battery is very light weight to throw in back pack

      Phillip Jacobson I've been days and days trying to find a power supply to run my 12-volt electric motorcycle jacket when I'm off the bike. I bought a NOCO gb40 jump box power supply it jumps to cars great bikes jumps my diesel truck but it won't do s*** when I plug in the damn jacket listen adapter. Then I tried it out on a 12-volt little water pump I have didn't do s*** there either it won't put out power I don't get it I really don't get it. I even tried it with the jumper cables running it right to the f****** wires it doesn't do anything

    first of all, you assume someone will bring a sleeping bag, so you dont need this on high, set it to low, second get a 12v small blanket rated 55w to minimize inverter loss, third and most important, get a prius!! cheers

      If I understand your question correctly I totally agree with it. It is not worth hooking an electric blanket up to a battery. The battery is draining so fast is useless. I’ve heard so many people that think you could hook up an electric blanket or even worse a hair dryer to a battery. Batteries even big batteries are very limited when it comes to generating heat. Heat is almost A direct short.
