  • I explain why an electric blanket is the best option for staying warm while winter camping in a SUV and I demonstrate how I safely use my electric blanket to stay warm and comfortable.
    Here is the link for the blanket: amzn.to/3j1k97c (please note it is currently unavailable - please see pinned comment below)

    According to Amazon, this blanket is not available.

      Yes, I noticed that. Sorry it is not available, but I only recommend products I actually use, so rather than listing a link to a product that is available, I provided the link to the blanket I use. As I pointed out in the video, they are simple devices, so I am sure some of the other options available will work well.

      @@SuburbanCamping I've tried three other 12 volt electric blankets - none of them were any good. Sent 'em all back.

      Sorry to hear that. Guess I got lucky with the RoadPro. Perhaps you might be able to find one at a truck stop?

    I may be wrong but I think you are the only true Suburban Camper on TH-cam. I'm glad you are still out there. I understand how much work goes into posting content on TH-cam. No matter how much time in between postings just keep it up.

    Thank you very much for this video, I have always used wool blankets in conjunction with my sleeping bag that will keep me comfortable to 0°F. The only cold part would be my face haha. This will definitely make it way more comfortable.

    I use an electric blanket under me. Heat rises. I also turn it on well before going to bed so when I do go to bed, everything is toasty warm. I generally turn off my electric blanket when sleeping. I just use a very warm sleeping bag. A sleeping pad designed for winter weather is extremely important. An inflatable air pad will suck the heat away from you. Hopefully everyone knows that.

      Great advice! I will try the "under method". Yes, insulation below is very important! I have mats on the floor and my 4" mattress does a good job. I have thought about getting a warmer sleeping bag, but mine is so comfortable, I don't think I can get away with it.

    TH-cam recommended your channel! I love your philosophy! I’m a senior solo female camper in a Ford Escape! It’s tiny in comparison to your Suburban but thankfully I’m not very big and I’m still pretty “bendable”! I extended my space by suspending boards from the front seat headrests over the back floorboards. I have three “permanent” components to my setup. My trifold mattress bed, my Alpicool compressor fridge (with a Bluetti battery in the floorboard) and my potty. (Well, the potty usually stays in the Wolfwise but I set it up fresh and bring it inside with me when I go to bed so I don’t get out of the car at night I.C.E.) I use the Wolfwise to store stuff in when not in use, like kitchen supplies tote, table and chairs etc. Food stays in the car. Either in the front passenger seat or on the bed in back if driving around. When I’m ready to move along, I tidy up the permanent stuff properly then throw a big Mexican blanket over it. Then I put the Wolfwise, table, chairs and kitchen supplies tote on top of it. That way, when I remove them, the permanent stuff under the blanket is clean and ready to go.
    I do have one indulgence if I have a power hookup. I have a little Keurig coffee maker. I’ll set it up the night before on my fridge (which doubles as a nightstand). I love waking up in my little SUV camper, reaching over and pushing the button on that coffee maker and enjoying “coffee in bed”, usually watching the dawn from my window. Then it’s up and at ‘em!

    This is exactly what I needed for my trip New Year’s Eve. Also, I use a pillow case as a hat while sleeping. Warm, when doubled over, and comfortable.

    I’ve heard on the other channels that if you use electric blankets and plug them into your car, it will drain. Your battery is best to use like a separate battery that’s not in the car which of course is more expensive that’s probably the way I’ll go to keep from killing my battery in my car.

    • @SuburbanCamping
      @SuburbanCamping  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, you should definitely not use your car battery to power the electric blanket.
