      that curved really really sucks. i just broke two s7 edge 1 month and two months old last year with just a little impact. And it scratch easily even it claims with latest gorilla glass. I have xperia z3 plus dual (z4) and drop it so many times but still working and it's just fine until now, i always used it in swimming, shower and has no issue. And for the coming S8 plus... a bizarre one. just waste of money even it has a lot of features. It's being innovated but i think it's not so good as expected.... just checked some reviews of it last 3 days.
      Just waiting for ZX premium to lunched in my country.

    I bought the XZ last month and its incredible phone device. Although I am not a fan of taking pictures, but with XZ I started really love taking pictures especially selfies.. The design is really beautiful, it looks nice in my hand..
    Thanks for your review I really like it...

      How does it feel to hold? I have a Z2 and it's perfect apart from not being the most comfortable to hold :) might upgrade to the XZ

      Joshua L I recommend it since you are already using sony device. I was using Z3 before, so it will be easy for you to accept it as i did. There are alot of improvements even in holding the phone. Am sure you will feel comfortable with it this time :)

      Baha'a Hussein Hi there. How is the battery life? How much on screen time can you get? I heard Fast Charging is not working in this model, is it true?

      Charlles Pereira Costa like the LG G5 which I have u need to buy a separate plug/adapter which uses quick charge 3.0 which the phone supports BUT DOESNT COME WITH THE QUICK CHARGE PLUG ONLY THE STANDARD PLUG.

  • @marcusnz232

    I have one and think it is a fabulous phone. I do disagree with the reviewers who feel that the volume button is hard to reach. Holding the phone in your right hand, it's really easy to adjust the volume with your thumb as you talk.
    Overall I find the phone a brilliant change from my iPhone 6 and it's my first Android ever. It's a shame that in New Zealand we can only get the black one - no other colours are imported. The camera is very good and way better than anything I had on an iPhone. I do wish it would output RAW files though as the processing is not the best.

    It's a good sensible review , let's be honest anyone looking for better images would just use a DSLR so it's perfect for what it will be used for. I worked closely with Sony when they launched the Z5 , it is still is a real game changer and not much different to this new edition , I was an iPhone user but having used the Z5 for a few years there will never be an iPhone in my life again even if the new iPhone does take amazing pictures. A tough call no doubt being a published photographer but a reality one. Someone said to me " once you change to Experia you will never go back " a cliche but for sure he was right. Thanks for sharing, nice work.

    Happy with mine the forest blue is beautifully elegant sony always make great products and this no exception. The only thing I was disappointed about is zooming into my pictures to find out they look like water paintings. My Z3 had way more detail when zooming in closer on the images. Apart from that the XZ is a great all rounder and hopefully Sony will bring something superior next year. Great review!

    • @devilmaycry383
      @devilmaycry383 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oberscharführer Schrödinger forest blue or mineral black which apparently has a hint of purple. That special aluminium material they are using called alkaleido gives a nice shimmering effect. Forest blue is nice in so many shades of light. Go for forest blue also try to get a look at mineral black.

    For getting the perfect photographs, you should have full control over the manual mode, if you use the manual mode, then you're done. You can even get the best photographs possible in a smartphone. Overall great review. Absolutely unbiased. Good.

    I recently bought this Sony phone and I love it, I've had iPhone my entire life and finally switched when it was wiped because of an update, and I'm glad I did. The camera is really amazing for a phone, and having separate storage for the system and my pictures is really great. Loved the mamamoo too lmao.

    I do agree with you on design - Its simply beautiful. When every other manufacturer phone looks the same with curved edges you have to see the branding to get to know which phone is it. Its simply not the case with Sony. They are just unique :)

    Great video, thanks for the review. Just FYI: I got a QuickCharge 3.0 compatible charger with my Xperia - I think it's market dependent. Also features like 4K recording or augmented reality are implemented as separate apps instead of incorporated into the camera app to help the camera app open as quickly as possible without having to load unnecessary or rarely used features. This helps achieve the 0.6s lock-to-capture time the XZ boasts.

    Good review but why would a photographer demand more from a phone.
    That's what dslr's are for you are expecting too much fact is a casual user would be happy even a professional as it's only a smart phone and not a dslr.
    The pictures looked really good to me.
    The battery life is really not impressive. I think that's more of a disappointment than the camera.
    Good video though I really liked it.

    • @WingXBlade
      @WingXBlade 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I owned and used a Z3 compact in the past but I wasn't really a fan of the photos taken with it. The color looked washed out and I would say the manual mode is utterly useless with only ISO left controllable. I wouldn't want to go back to SONY after that experience, plus if someone want to root their phones they'd have to unlock their boot loader but that makes the images worse last time I've heard. I don't have a DSLR so the camera sensor on the phone is all I have and in some situations, a lightweight smartphone is better than a bulky DSLR.

      I'm also a photographer, yes we need to demand phone, because we are using smartphone to check those colors from laptop or desktop to cp if it is accurate, like for example, the toning of skin or skin tones, correct tonings that need to tweak in LR. We use cp to compare colors, sometimes most of our monitors we're using are not calibrated properly.. so that we need cellphone to check the correct colors, if it is calibrated or not.

    Only problem with Sony is that their camera UI and software isn't user-friendly at all. You can actually get sharp images with this phone but if you know the proper settings, mostly the best shots are taken on Manual Mode. Sony should really fix this on the Nougat update

    honest review, and finally someone who gets what the xz is about.
    it's not about the spec sheets, it's about everyday performance. and the xz rocks.
    as for the camera, you probably were shooting in 23mp mode. try 8mp 4:3. that's how the sensor and the image processing software is meant to be used. you'd be surprised

    • @TechAltar
      @TechAltar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tried both, and indeed the 8mp shots looked slightly better, but I ultimately had similar feelings about both. I'm happy you liked the video :)

    These blurry edges are an issue with Sony's flagships since the Z1. It almost seems as if Sony doesn't realize that every other company is creating better photos with Sony-Sensors than Sony itself. In fact, the camera - apart from the lack of Qi-Charging - was the main reason that I returned my XZ and took an S7 Edge instead.

    I'm writing this from my XZ1. For sure Sony is taking their own path with their designs, and that's why I love them. I don't mind the bezels at all, I like the design and the performance is fantastic as usual. The only thing I could change in my XZ1 is those sharp corners which sometimes (if you don't have wallet cover like I have now) can be disturbing but nothing to worry about. I'm going to continue with Sony in the future too and for me Sony is synonymous with great performance and unique design!
    Shout out to all Sony fans out there in cyber space!

    Yours is not a phone review channel but I must admit, this is one of the best reviews on a Xperia XZ series I have seen. Sony takes a lot of hit for not following the shiny trend but once someone uses their device for a few days, gets the feeling of the practicality of this design over near bezel-less phones.
    Did you use XZ for an extended period? If so, did the battery life and camera improved after a few software updates?

    Hi there, sir, I think you're wrong about what you said about the camera. "if you are a demanding photographer" the xz is the only option you have out there right now. The reason is: It has the best colour accuracy by far, and you can manage to get better detail (some detail) than any other phone on manual mode. So I consider it is the best camera out there right now. You showed some incredibly nice looking pics. better than 99% of all pics taken by high end phones right now. You're actually proving what I'm saying right now! >_

    • @jordimagius
      @jordimagius 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      + If you're a demanding photographer you use your reflex camera, and you ask to for your mobile phone great true-to-life colour photos.

    • @TechAltar
      @TechAltar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I compared it with my Lumia 950 and in most situations the 950 pictures turned out to have slightly better dynamic range, less distortion from the lens and a lot less noise. I agree that the colors are great on the XZ, but that can be fixed after it's taken, while distortion and noise can't. The XZ has a great camera, but it's not the best one on the market in my opinion

    • @jordimagius
      @jordimagius 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it has a bit of less noise, but it has tons of less detail as well. Slower photos, worse focus, stabilization, iso, etc.

    This phone was great when I bought it the first time but after a year I notice that it lags so much, heating with such little tasks, overheats like crazy when you do video calls and recording videos. It's becoming unbearable and what annoys me the most is when you really need to do something with your phone like making calls and sending files it occasionally gets really slow and sometimes becomes unresponsive and would just crash.

The phone is riddled with issues, but of course when it launched these geeks were so blindsided by the "latest amazing chipset, quad HD amoled blah blah", and end up missing important details... like how the noise cancelling microphone doesn't work properly for example... on a flagship device.. great.
    Edit: Just seen that the XZ is a huge phone... I'm done with huge devices - Can you recommend anything along these lines?

    I am using Sony phones for as long as Android became mainstream and all of them are good and incredible looking, stylish and elegant as you say, I would recomand them. But I don't like, as you said, that it gets sloppy extaclly in an area cotrolled by Sony (as being the main mobile camera supplier in the world), the camera. I don't know why Sony simply can't get the algorithm right or the sensor right. That's one of the reasons why I will hop on Pixel later this year, when Pixel 2 will launch, because it gets stuff done perfectly and photos are a big thing for me.

    I Do love the design and how it look. I have a Sony xperia z5.. but the materials Sony used puted me of. at the price range you would expect some metal on the sides as the same metal they used on the back.. the bottom and top op the outside of the phone is also plastic..

    Your lens is decentered. It's sharp on the right and blurry on the left side. Camera units on smartphones are built cheaply and so lots of them get discarded after fabrication. This one sadly got through the quality inspection and to Sony's shame found it's way in your hands and on TH-cam. Trust me, I know lenses, it's decentered. Personally, after 2 generations of xperia compacts, I bought an elephone s8 for a big change. Informative channel, sub+1.

    Great review ! I really love the symmetric design and overall look of this phone. It's refreshing from the rest of the market, yet I couldn't justify the price at my current state. So I opted for the NextBit Robin which has the same design besides the volume rockers and no camera button. Specs are slightly below the XZ, but at $150 when I bought the Robin, it's a perfect substitute. Im still interested in the Sony, but until there's a price drop I'll hold off. Thanks for the review.

    What about the REMOTE PLAY with ps4!? That's one of the most important selling point and main core feature for me that made Sony stand out from Samsung and "Pinaple"! (Also the reason why I went for a Xperia Z2 instead Z1).
    I know u can do it with other phones, but Sony support's it officially! But the amount of keys u can press during remote play will let u know how good and responsive the device actually is! Not to mention when it overheats it would deteriorate the gaming experience, was it fixed in this model? Can it handle a game(App) like Line Age II and running for longer than 1 hour without any frame drops now or noticeable freezing or tearing?
    If this one can't run Remote Play I will have to assume this is inferior to the Z2 series. Can you please take a that in to consideration, when you reviewing Sony Xperia products at least?

    so with this review I can finally conclude that the last sony that didn't resort to excessive post processing of pictures was the vivaz. I had to have it replaced and I got an xperia ray instead. Kudos to sony for this kind of costumer service, because the symbian os rendered the phone unusable, and while the vivaz had a camera that produced pictures that felt like they were taken with an actual camera when zoomed in, the ray looked muddy every time when inspected closely. A newer phone, yet it captured much less detail than the older one. I was still considering the sony xperia SP when it was released (I admit I am a sucker for phones that look pretty), but when i looked at the photos the camera produced (still 8mp, still as muddy as the ones from my ray), I decided sony is a no go from then on.
    The ray probably uses the same camera components as the vivaz, and my current Huawei ascend p6 uses a sony bsi 8mp sensor, quite possibly the same sensor these two sony phones have, but it beats both of them in image quality, at least as far as photos are concerned. you can get almost macro-like detail and blurred background, detailed enough to shoot bumblebees on flowers, you can focus at a few centimeters distance from the subject, which is very handy. I just think it's really sad to see a company fail at using their own components at their full potential and then see another company beat them at their own game using the same components.

    I don't quite agree with your still camera observations, u know without OIS there'll always be problems in low light especially when cropped. But i have seen several comparisons with this phone and the i phone 7 and the Sony trumps it. I have seen with the s7 edge too and it beats that phone in day light or good lighting scenarios, but the edge is still the overall king of low light photography cause of the hardware but the difference isn't wide.

    I very nearly bought one, but I eventually got a Samsung Galaxy S7. Even though I prefer the Sony in every other way (especially looks, the software home button and fingerprint reader on the power button), I chose the Samsung only because if its superior low-light camera performance (and slightly smaller size). The Samsung also feels of better build quality, but I would have got the Sony is the camera was as good as the Samsung's.

    I've had this phone for a little more than 2 years since it came out and the only gripe I have with it is that the speakers are too soft, even on max volume. Screen 1080p? No problem, plenty sharp for me eyes. Only ONE rear camera for a 2016 phone? Pfft. Who needs 2 average cameras when you can have 1 camera that excels? Audio jack? TAKE MY MONEY!!! Speakers are just too soft for my ears. I've switched to the LG G7 since then and never regretted it. The speakers (or should I say, speaker) on that bad boy is life. Hold it on your hand and you get loud and clear sound. But when you place it on a table flat, apart from loud and clear sound, you also get bass which you can only get on those expensive high end external bluetooth speakers. They not only provided an audio jack. They made it better. With a dedicated D.A.C. to boot. The cameras excels on it too.

      Shamoy Rahman The specs are top-notch, minus maybe the 1080p display, which is still more than good enough.

    • @ShamoyRahman
      @ShamoyRahman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      supersbbrawl4ever Also, the lack of 4GB of RAM, although it doesn't cripple the device at all, its necessary for spec whore fanboys. Adding 4GB of RAM wouldn't be any harm and more people would be buying the XZ.

    • @supersbbrawl4ever
      @supersbbrawl4ever 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Shamoy Rahman That 3GB RAM has been outspeeding the likes of the OnePlus 3 (6GB RAM), the G5 and the S7 in speed tests, and even the Pixel in some areas. Meanwhile the iPhone 7 has 2GB RAM, yet nobody bitched about it.

    • @supertigerman013
      @supertigerman013 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +supersbbrawl4ever
      First, most of average consumers look for the spec sheet and the brand of the phone when they buy one. So in order to attract those people, Sony should've put 4 - 6GB of RAM on XZ and definitely needs to do so on their next flagship smartphone. Non-tech-enthusiastic people do not watch those comparison videos often anyway.
      Second, XZ has RAM management problem even when that Smart Cleaner thing is turned off. This is most likely because they only put 3GB on board, which is simply unacceptable for the 2016 standard.
      Finally, iPhone 7 has only 2GB of RAM as it is, on iOS, enough to keep over 40 apps in the background without even reloading.
      So you're pretty much missing the point, I have to say.

    • @ShamoyRahman
      @ShamoyRahman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      superiorlion015 I agree, to attract people, they will need to put 4GB of RAM, it will solve all the issues.
