And the galaxy phones? well they don't last as long as the Xperias. My brother has s7 edge, he had to factory reset it after 4 months because it slowed downed a lot. me on the other hand been using the Xperia Z3 for 2 years and the phone is actually faster than when I first got it (not making this up). So yeah, Sony phones are perfectly priced (except the X series).

Paulson Dumbbells you make a very good point, and I admit my mistake, however, don't forget that's it's all about user end experience. For example, the oneplus has 6gb RAM yet from what I have seen, the XZ is noticeably faster and handles multitasking better with 3gb RAM. Also they have bigger batteries but they are Samsung batteries which degrades after nearly a year or so. Don't be fooled by numbers, it doesn't mean much these days, software and optimisation has come a long way. But even then, the likes of oneplus and axon still has excellent value for money but it all depends on what you are looking for in a phone. in my case, I will always prefer the XZ or a pixel over the likes of oneplus, axon etc because I'm looking for a phone that will go strong for me (especially performance and battery) even after 3-4 years of heavy use which I'm not sure the oneplus and axon will be able to cut it for me.
Actually you can enable the fingerprint sensor on the US version by flashing an international firmware (UK for example). The sensor is only disabled on the US firmware.

Its honestly a really good phone but gets so much hate because it doesn't have useless things like 4GB of RAM or a 1440p display. The biggest strength in this phone is not raw specs, its the optimization that leads to the excellent experience in the end that consumers can feel.

we all know that iPhone is not a good comparison to compare bezel size ..they are seriously behind in addressing that issue. Phones can have stereo speakers with smaller bezel so that excuse is not good enough in 2016. I just feel like these big oems with their larger profit margins should be making more effort in designing better hardware. I won't name drop phones but just look at what smaller brands have done this year and compare.

OIS, EIS? High speed charging? Wireless charging? My wife likes her plug-free charging on her old Xperia. The magnetic side for the game-player is used to charge the (waterproof) phone quickly & easily. Removable micro-SD card is good. The "flaw" you complain, on reboot when the SIM tray is opened, works when Android demands a FC: Forced Boot. My Samsung Galaxy has a complex, two-handed, three-button FC, that my one-handed crippled body finds hard to do.
I just want to tell I have it for about 2 weeks, Europe version and works perfectly also the fingerprint I very good, no fails, very stable, about battery life no big difference between Z5P

It does have a fingerprint sensor but Sony had to inactivate it due to some patent with a fingerprint scanner embedded in a powerbutton hold by HP? in USA. Just flash a international ftf file and you have activated the fingerprint scanner without sacrificing any warranty :)
I hate how people think they need a 2k display in their phones. You're eyes literally can't see any more pixels than a 1080p screen on the average sized phone. I think brands should only make 1080p screens and introduce more advanced technology in them, like better color accuracy.
Check the laser autofocus because it only sends a beam and recives it back in the service menu for some odd reason. When i the camera app the laser autofocus doesn´t work as it´s supposed too. I have the XZ and i have been in contact with Sony Mobile about this. You can check this out if you put the XZ´s back up against a another camera with the laserfocus pointing at it when the camera app is open. The laser will only send a beam when the shutter button is pressed half way otherwise nothing happens. But in service menu it sends and recives constantly as it should be doing. P.S. This can only be checked infront of another camera!!! Please test this and help me confirm it.

It does have a fingerprint sensor; just not readable in the US version. It is rectifiable with a firmware update. It's on the XDA developers website, check it out.
I actually like the Sony X performance. The sharp edges on the XZ just looks odd to me. Besides. In terms of specs. The XZ and X Performance are basically identical.
Audio in xperia, sky-high crosstalk resulting in low volume. Camera, any other manufacturer will get better results with the same hardware pack. Water resistance will turn out to fail more often than not, damaging speakers and microphones permanently and some K.O. might occur. Updates will come, but there is a big chance that when a major update comes, major bugs will be introduced. If they are still using the 5 pin headphone jack for noise canceling, the jack might fail and you won't be able to use the noise canceling headphones. Am I a Sony hater? maybe after they let me down with the Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 and Z3+. cannot expect much more.
JuanBagnell Yeah, Sony has soke great ideas, they had the first premium water resistant phone, I love the music (former Walkman) player, the noise canceling was a great addon, they were one of the firsts to implement 4k recording and they had an amazing video EIS. But in each and every idea was a major failure, the backplate of the Xperia Z got unglued in many devices and other xperias had problems with the water resistant bit where speakers and microphones never worked properly again or the micro sd / USB covers failed and let water in to the phone. Sound quality was haunted by low volume, I guess due over average crosstalk, and the Z2 and Z3 line of phones had a headphone jack that break really easy. And we all know how Sony aways screw in one way or another the camera experience. Maybe your in depth review will prove me (and your self) wrong, but I don't have high hopes. And for the TFW moment, what is it with Sony and removing the finger print sensor in the US version of this phone?
Rena Chan I hear you man. I used to fan boy for their devices but after owning the Xperia z3 compact I am sorely disappointed by their lack of attention to detail. I think they need to take a break, releasing a new device every six months does not bring about innovation by any means. Take the time to support your devices! How is it that I get worse Battery life after a marshmallow update? That was the reason I bought the compact. Sigh rumor has it they did the same thing with the z5 compact. So much wasted potential.

I used to have all the Sony phones and was kinda a fanboy and kinda still am but I've switched to the nexus 6p because everything is better just the design is kinda meh compared to the xperia z series. I don't understand how their camera ( pictures become looking like it's been hit with water paint) , loud speakers ( sounds good with earphones but to low external) and other aspects are shit when they provide other manufacturers with these parts and the excel past them. For a punishment, use a Xperia phone as your main phone for atleast a few months. and for the Fingerprint Sensor, there is an easy fix, you flash a non US-based ROM, via flashtool, many guides out there how to use flashtool and is an extremely easy to use software, It is just flashing another Xperia software, so isnt like flashing a ROM, and is much easier p.s it is believe to be not in US, due to some patent involving Fingerprint Sensor on a lock button, so legally they cannot activate the sensor in the US, and you should use a non-US device as most of your users will be from outside of US, so you wouldn't want to give them the wrong information
i tried hard liking this phone and desired to buy also. just couldn't go for it. that weird uncomfortable volume rocker placement personally is a deal breaker for me. Just sad Sony.
Personally Sony has amazing sound though the headphones but the stero speakers are always seem to be low., well that's what I had with my xperia phones in the past
I know that you test the phone as the customer gets it and I understand that, but there is a way to enable the fingerprint scanner. You just flash the International firmware (or any other firmware from Europe) for the XZ and you are good to go. It's easy and as far as I know you don't loose any connectivity with US networks or the warranty (check the xda post for more info on that). I know that the average consumer doesn't know what I'm talking about, but since pocketnow is a technology channel I would like just a mention on that on your full review for your more tech savvy viewers. I have Z5 Premium and S7 Edge and the Z5 Premium has better sound quality when using headphones so how can this Xz have lower sound quiality? Do you even turn on the optimization sound quality?

Not your usual best... This phones actually looks better than the X series... kinda next iteration from the Z5... And the cameras are always good compared to most other android phones... Also I had no issues with battery with my Z5...

Great phone came from Huawei p9 to Samsung galaxy s7 Edge to this. Hands down best phone out of any of them. Twice as fast as the s7 edge. Camera would be the downfall but not by much

This finger print activation sensor is only disabled in the USA because of licensing and copyright issues with HP i heard.

I don't like how you talk. Also double click the home button on the s6 and the camera is instantly turned on. Why would it need a dedicated camera button

I have the impression that the XZ in EU does have a fingerprint sensor, just like the Z5 had in its power button. Is it different for US?
Correction it does have a fingerprint sensor in the power button it's just disabled in the US. Flash over say a UK firmware and it works.

It does have a fingerprint sensor; just not readable in the US version. It is rectifiable with a firmware update. It's on the XDA developers website, check it out.
Looks better than the X Performance, but still doesn't seem worthy of replacing the Z5 for me anyways.

I actually like the Sony X performance. The sharp edges on the XZ just looks odd to me. Besides. In terms of specs. The XZ and X Performance are basically identical.
Audio in xperia, sky-high crosstalk resulting in low volume.
Camera, any other manufacturer will get better results with the same hardware pack.
Water resistance will turn out to fail more often than not, damaging speakers and microphones permanently and some K.O. might occur.
Updates will come, but there is a big chance that when a major update comes, major bugs will be introduced.
If they are still using the 5 pin headphone jack for noise canceling, the jack might fail and you won't be able to use the noise canceling headphones.
Am I a Sony hater? maybe after they let me down with the Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 and Z3+. cannot expect much more.
Naw dude I feel you. This is a company I want to LOVE so bad, but they make it really rough to be a fan...
JuanBagnell Yeah, Sony has soke great ideas, they had the first premium water resistant phone, I love the music (former Walkman) player, the noise canceling was a great addon, they were one of the firsts to implement 4k recording and they had an amazing video EIS.
But in each and every idea was a major failure, the backplate of the Xperia Z got unglued in many devices and other xperias had problems with the water resistant bit where speakers and microphones never worked properly again or the micro sd / USB covers failed and let water in to the phone.
Sound quality was haunted by low volume, I guess due over average crosstalk, and the Z2 and Z3 line of phones had a headphone jack that break really easy.
And we all know how Sony aways screw in one way or another the camera experience.
Maybe your in depth review will prove me (and your self) wrong, but I don't have high hopes.
And for the TFW moment, what is it with Sony and removing the finger print sensor in the US version of this phone?
Rena Chan I hear you man. I used to fan boy for their devices but after owning the Xperia z3 compact I am sorely disappointed by their lack of attention to detail. I think they need to take a break, releasing a new device every six months does not bring about innovation by any means. Take the time to support your devices! How is it that I get worse Battery life after a marshmallow update? That was the reason I bought the compact. Sigh rumor has it they did the same thing with the z5 compact. So much wasted potential.

I used to have all the Sony phones and was kinda a fanboy and kinda still am but I've switched to the nexus 6p because everything is better just the design is kinda meh compared to the xperia z series. I don't understand how their camera ( pictures become looking like it's been hit with water paint) , loud speakers ( sounds good with earphones but to low external) and other aspects are shit when they provide other manufacturers with these parts and the excel past them. It's like a hot chick with shit internals and later your just like ehhh a massive annoying headache.

For a punishment, use a Xperia phone as your main phone for atleast a few months.
and for the Fingerprint Sensor, there is an easy fix, you flash a non US-based ROM, via flashtool, many guides out there how to use flashtool and is an extremely easy to use software, It is just flashing another Xperia software, so isnt like flashing a ROM, and is much easier
p.s it is believe to be not in US, due to some patent involving Fingerprint Sensor on a lock button, so legally they cannot activate the sensor in the US, and you should use a non-US device as most of your users will be from outside of US, so you wouldn't want to give them the wrong information

i tried hard liking this phone and desired to buy also. just couldn't go for it. that weird uncomfortable volume rocker placement personally is a deal breaker for me. Just sad Sony.

What is going on with that NFC logo on front by front camera? Is it NFC chip on front now?
I know that you test the phone as the customer gets it and I understand that, but there is a way to enable the fingerprint scanner. You just flash the International firmware (or any other firmware from Europe) for the XZ and you are good to go. It's easy and as far as I know you don't loose any connectivity with US networks or the warranty (check the xda post for more info on that). I know that the average consumer doesn't know what I'm talking about, but since pocketnow is a technology channel I would like just a mention on that on your full review for your more tech savvy viewers. Keep up the great work!

I have Z5 Premium and S7 Edge and the Z5 Premium has better sound quality when using headphones so how can this Xz have lower sound quiality? Do you even turn on the optimization sound quality?
With every phone Sony offers something to stop people from buying it... Done the same with this one.. Overpriced and inactive finger print sensor! And let's wait and see if they included the overheating camera as well.

Not your usual best... This phones actually looks better than the X series... kinda next iteration from the Z5... And the cameras are always good compared to most other android phones... Also I had no issues with battery with my Z5...

Great phone came from Huawei p9 to Samsung galaxy s7 Edge to this. Hands down best phone out of any of them. Twice as fast as the s7 edge. Camera would be the downfall but not by much
