Hey Rich. Very nice streamer and adaptable to all kinds of target species. Been tying a long time and TH-caming for a little while and just found your channel. I’m subscribing because you remind me that I’m not the only one! This fly will be going in the box and the box with me to Belize. I’ll keep watching if you keep posting. Thanks.
Love the simplicity of this fly. I don't mind spending an hour building a FGC, but when it comes to filling my box in preparation for a smallmouth season, I want a few fast fishy flies that work. This fits the bill. Thanks for the tutorial.
Awesome fly, Rich! I've been tying something very similar for a few years. I appreciate your method with the eyes, I actually do the same thing but use flat stick-on eyes and build them up with UV resin to minimize weight and maintain even keel. That trick has been critical with a number of patterns for anchoring eyes and making them durable. Such a killer pattern
Subscriber 775 so your 3/4 of the way to 1,000! Your style, tips and expertise deserve many thousands. I’ll share and recommend to as many as I can here in Texas. Thanks for the great video, I’ll be watching your others. 🎣. Best wishes
Awesome inspirational vids! I've still got almost 2 months before the ice is gone here in northern Sweden so it's about time to start filling up those trout snackboxes...!
Beautiful fly Rich and good videography !!! Also, thanks for NOT spending endless minutes "stroking" it as you tie :-). I see that a lot in these baitfish\streamer vids and it drives me nuts !! ..LOL.. !
BASE ... is what I'd use I agree platform don't sound right...... ?? do you ever use larger hooks 2/0...3/0 ?? ... there's a guy in my area that uses lead core line and strip's flies for Strippers out of his motorized canoe and kills it using flies .. been tying my own Jigs & air brushing hard baits and looking to add flies to the resume
That was a great tutorial! Clear instruction and gave a reason why you do it that way (waste is my pet peeve). But why do you wrap the chenille toward you? I thought wrapping away, like the direction of the thread was the way to go, unless you're counter wrapping a rib. Madden did the same thing tying the chromatic peanut. At any rate your tie is the style of dubbed head or CF baitfish streamer I've admired for years. Thanks Rich.
Frank Bush Definitely want some olive in there, some turquoise or aqua marine Mixtown little bit of orange and white blend for the belly and that should work. the beauty of the magnum dub is it’s very easy to work with and you can blend colors together it’ll take marker as well so you can really put a lot of time and effort into replicating forage, have fun with it
I have a question...could i tie this on a lead head an make a bait fish? i was thinking to get the correct look just put a solid black eye to make the kill spot that bait fish has
Jeremy DeCoudres all by eye, if it doesn’t look right after I manipulate the material in hand, then I either add or subtract material from what I’m using and adjust my tie in point with the bundle to make the taper
Rich, you think you’ve got pet peeves, don’t get me started! Freakin people talk like F-ing scientists to make themselves look “brilliant”! Thanks for sharing!
My only pet peeve is seeing people put the eyes on “backwards” I never see anyone do it correctly but I guess I’m the only one that’s ever noticed. Beautiful fly of course
Your work is fine, but I am asking myself and asking you a question; all these filaments of more or less plastic material will end up in the water and/or in the bellies of fish. You and I and millions of Internet users would surely like to be able to enjoy many more years of the benefits of this planet. Isn't a reflection on the choice of ecological materials necessary? for reading, thank you.

Rich, extremely well done and clearly explained. A quick tie that catches fish. Perfect!

Great info! I am a big fan of Brian's he suggested I stop by! The tutorial on the eyes was a big help!
Tim G right on
great fly pattern and tying technique looking forward to tying a few this afternoon.... from Down Under
I remember some of your earlier ties. Great Job and thanks for the new tips.

Thanks for sharing with us 🤙 i have a pet peeve of my own too 😂 its when people say “tight lines”. gets me every time 😂
Picked up some great tips especially when setting the eyes. I've been using way to much gel. Nice clean tie. Much enjoyed thanks!

Great simple tie really enjoyed it, liked the eye tip, waste so many sticking them to my fingers
That's sweet quite fast 😍. I make something like that for years now they swim well
Thank you for the fly tutorial! Picked up some great tips!
loubrownguy69 my pleasure

@@djradrs199 You absolutely can. I tie and fish this fly for a wide array of species and make them up to about 6 inches long give or take.
Haha straight to the point, how good! Good stuff mate.
Nice tie man

How does It keel in the water?
Great job, I love it!
But wait theres more for only 45 more seconds of content we get more torch action lol! I have watched this video a lot now . love this pattern
How do these flies swim in the water? Haven't fished these small baitfish much. I think the closest would be the mini bangtail.
Rich great video. Can this fly be tied on a jig hook? What hook and size would you recommend?
Paul Pinette you certainly could, I’d most likely would use a #2-1/0 for a jig hook
I wish you let us look at the fly in the water.
So are these good for large mouth bass??
Tie a couple and let me know. I’d tie a couple in sunfish colors…
Where do you get those big bags of magnum dubbing?
Dominique LeBlanc www.americantiedflies.com
Great fly I can’t wait to tie it. I do a lot of large mouth bass fishing so will try to use bluegill colors. Any you would suggest?
Frank Bush Definitely want some olive in there, some turquoise or aqua marine Mixtown little bit of orange and white blend for the belly and that should work. the beauty of the magnum dub is it’s very easy to work with and you can blend colors together it’ll take marker as well so you can really put a lot of time and effort into replicating forage, have fun with it
Nice fly Rich. Funny though, I've never heard the terms "Platform" or "Keeling" before you used them.
You must not be on Instagram then, those are two terms used repeatedly there
Yeah your right. I've no use for it.
Do you ever tie these using ep fiber?
You obviously can, but for these I do not
I have a question...could i tie this on a lead head an make a bait fish? i was thinking to get the correct look just put a solid black eye to make the kill spot that bait fish has
Absolutely
Nice work! Curious do you have a method to measure the length of the dubbing so that you get the correct tapering?
Jeremy DeCoudres all by eye, if it doesn’t look right after I manipulate the material in hand, then I either add or subtract material from what I’m using and adjust my tie in point with the bundle to make the taper
What is the main body material? And where do you get that brush??
It’s in the end of the video the entire material list
Great vido, thank you!

Hi Rich, what is youre hook size?
Thanks a lot!
1-3/0
See you use my boy Aaron's dubbing . He makes some great materials
Good instruction
Platform! LOL! That is funny. Like it's an operating system. The Wooly Bugger v 55.999999.
My only pet peeve is seeing people put the eyes on “backwards” I never see anyone do it correctly but I guess I’m the only one that’s ever noticed. Beautiful fly of course

I don’t even know how to respond to such a question. I’m at a loss of words
Dramatic much??
Should I have added more feeling to my tone? I’m sorry
