I've been watching Iain for some time now, but I've never seen a video giving a complete tour of his shop.
Well done, Gary, for getting us a tour.
I've only just started watching you today and will continue to watch all your videos from now on.

Sake the cameraperson, ask open ended questions and listen. Pity that you looked at every car apart from Harry's Garage - Iain is a gentleman. Thanks for giving us an update from his workshop Gary.

Hello Gary, I have watched Harry’s garage for a long time and because of Harry’s regular visits to Iain Tyrell that started me watching Tyrell’s classic cars. I find Iain a very knowledgeable guy and similar to you he does go into a lot of detail. I loved your visit to Iain Tyrell’s garage and all those gorgeous cars.

Great video, but let's be honest, that V12 XJS is to die for. Think I saw one in Tyrell's parking lot some episodes ago too. It has aged remarkably well, especially the Euro version without the extended bumpers that you see here in the States.

Two of my favourtie TH-cam car chaps! With the 6.9 and all other variants of that range I much prefer the velour fabric to the leather. It feels richer and more comfortable. Back at the start of the eighties when I was at college in Exeter the local merc dealer had an SLC in stock in the most beautiful antique gold paint with dark green velour interior. Forty one years later I can still see it in my minds eye!

A fantastic tour, what a privilege to look around. That e-type Jag, as kids there was one parked outside the town hairdresser and we used to peer into it and marvel at the 160mph speedo : )

What always fascinated me about the E-Type, was the Tubular Steel Construction of the Front - End, all simply bolted to the Firewall. I often thought that the design didn't look rigid enough, and would therefore 'flex'. There are special people in this world who deserve respect in the Classic Car World. Two of them are here together. Greetings from Australia.

Fabvideo, i'm a fan of both channels and never miss an episode. I'm always a bit surprised that Iain does everything inside the same workshop. metalwork, trimming and engine rebuilds, - and with jet engines blowing in dust from outside. He is however, an amazing engineer and very likeable to boot. Thanks Gary.

Lovely to see 2 of my favourites on the same bill!
Iain, you did get it wrong with the Aston Martin DBS comments. OHMSS used two Series 1 DBS cars: Chassis # 5109 and 5234. They both had the early, aluminum "Sharkmouth," Dunlop wire wheels, Olive paint with black Vaumol leather, and the venerable 6 cylinder engine. Persuaders! DBS was a Series 2 DBS 6 cylinder with the awful glassfibre front spoiler, painted Bahama Yellow. They fitted the alloy wheels and badging to make it look like the V8 (still not ready at the time of filming), but it was just a S2 DBS. You can easily spot a S1 DBS from a S2 by: S1 had the side gills on the rear B Pillar just behind the rear quarterglass. S2 cars had the louvred just behind the back window, and no side gills. S1 cars have only 1 layer of stainless sill covers where the S2 had 2 piece, deeper sill covers. There are so many details on the differences between S1 and S2 DBS cars that I could write a book. Dudley Gershon wrote in his wonderful book about how they stuffed a V8 in an early bodied DBS and took it to LeMans. Performed very well. After building a Sharkmouth panel, I can see why they dropped it as it is a very, very complicated piece and extremely expensive to make. I just love the look of the early cars, and have a buck that I made in case a reader wants to convert their S2 DBS back tot he earlier type.
    Cheers, Tom

FWIW The Harvey Bailey kit made my Bentley S1 handle much better without affecting ride quality. I can take on ramps/off ramps at modern car speed (pretty much) without much body roll at all. It makes the car more drivable as a "car" in modern traffic.

On the Rolls suspension kit, Gary. You might have considered changing the shocks only to the Bilstein type used in the conversion. I think Harry Metcalfe did that to his “Arctic Rolls” on Harry’s garage , better damping but ride still good. If you GO the whole kit it might be a bigger transition to the ride . However , we’ll see how you find the change next video .

    • @classic.obsession
      @classic.obsession  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks Martin. Yes I’ve ordered a new set as I thought my old shocks would be a little worse for wear and would compromise the new ride kit. Good job I did as you’ll see in the next video. Was really good to get Iain’s take on it all before I embarked on the fitting. He’s very knowledgeable and entertaining and I trust his judgement. Always like a kid in a toy shop every time I visit. A labyrinth of dream cars and quality workmanship. Regards.

I had a silver shadow with standard suspension wafted along, then bought a Bentley T1 but it didn't ride as nice as the rolls, then found out the Bentley had been fitted with rolls royce sport suspension, i think Harvey Bailey surplied
    Ruined the ride
    Drove like a granada
Evertime I gave someone a ride in it expecting it to be like a magic carpet
I had to explain its been fitted with uprated suspension

White was a very popular colour for the E types and other Jaguars in the 60s and 70s but everyone repainted them red.
Somehow Mark Evans lost a load of money on the S2 drophead he restored for his DVD series 15 years ago… that one went from white to red.

And you don´t think the opening is roped off and camera set up for the shot of his arrival and approved by Iain???

Might've been a half dozen people watching this who are actually interested in an after market suspension kit for a Rolls, for the rest of us it was a complete waste of nine minutes we'll never get back. I am a fan of Iain Tyrrell's YT site, CO-GM, not so much.

Do not watch then simple .You must be a busy person if nine minutes make a difference .Why not get out of bed nine minutes earlier in the morning to make up. I bet your the type of person that goes for meal eats all of it then complains wanting a refund
