      That's a TRUE cold air kit... this isn't. This might make a little difference, but not like yours does. But that's the difference between $100 and $300. S&B also makes a very nice cold air kit, but it's also expensive.

    The cold air kits will increase hp if you tune it for the increased airflow. I did a cold air kit, e-fan conversion with a Nelson Performance harness, and Pacesetter long tube headers with y-pipe. Then had it tuned and noticed a major difference.

    I agree, removing the leaves would add 20 more horses by reducing the weight, lol. Seriously, nice video. I added a K&N filter setup to my truck and noticed a slight performance increase (that's what I like to think). But the sound is sooo much better when you step on it. Oh, by the way, I put a racing stripes on the sides and it gave me about 15 more horses.

    The first thing I do when I get a vehicle (which is ALWAYS a used one with a V8). Is install a cold air intake then get a programmer for it. The two vehicles that I noticed the biggest difference on: 2003 F350 w/ bullet proofed 6.0 and a ‘05 WK (Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited) with the Hemi. The hemi just WOKE up on the wrong side of the bed with the cold air and programmer. My 6.0 loved the street tune.
    But, you said something and made a great point. All these mods we do; ie cold air, short or long tube headers with true dual exhaust, programmer, larger diameter throttle body etc…. They do best when working with other mods. There is no single performance mod that alone, makes a world of difference and/or is using 100% of its potential.
    A cold air intake and throttle body makes a difference however is not getting 100% of its potential unless there is a good exhaust. Why improve a air pumps ability to inhale air, if it can’t exhale it just as effectively.

    I have had lost of experience with eBay cold air intakes and they are fine, but my only complaint is the filters if being used for a daily driven vehicle. Only last maybe 12 months the fabric or material starts to decay and then your engine is sucking on the stuff that is falling off of the filter. Overall the tubing is great and no issues. The filters However are not the best. Invest in a decent filter right away it will be worth it in the long run.
    Good video and good content. Just trying to help you and possibly other enthusiasts(:
    Have a blessed day.

    For gas vehicles I recommend SB only. High flow intake that has a covered intake box is better than having an open box. Open box intakes are not CAI, they suck in the hot air in the engine bay.

  • @mjsmjs7905
    @mjsmjs7905 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cone air filters are always going to add more power on the high end, if and only if there's enough air flow getting to them. Sometimes you have to open up the grill a little bit to get a little more air into the engine bay.

    Uhm, I'm not sure if anyone on here has said it or not, but that 'Tumor" is a resinator, and makes the air intake quieter, as well as smooths out the air as it flows through the intake tube, making it a little better for the TB and intake manifold. You should get a sealed box and have the intake tube come from under the fender, like the stock set up, and get actual cooler air, than what will be sucked in from under the hood.

    You can pick up a 50 dollar one and just put a k&n filter and get same performance as the 300 full set filter

    • @koolaidwaterfountainsforth4236
      @koolaidwaterfountainsforth4236 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and no. Yes there is a minimal if any performance increase with the drop in K&N. Mainly you get a average 1mpg better. Do a full CIA setup you only amplify the results when done and set up properly.
      All the cars I've had ive put in the K&N drop ins. Very minimal difference if that performance wise. The mpg gains will pay for the filter cost over the next handful of tanks.
      My v6 ford escape i used to have probably responded the best to a drop in. Went from 20 maybe 21 mpg average on a good oil change cycle (4-5k miles) to averaging low/mid 23's consistently. 25 rolling down the highway at 77-80mph.
      CIA's have been proven to bump up 7-10whp on just a drop in that didn't require a tune ontop of it. Video proof exists within TH-cam. The ones that required a tune obviously had more significant gains being tuned for the extra air intake, etc.
      Want more performance oriented you do your research and get a legitimate CIA setup. Want a extra mpg or 2 go pick up a drop in.

    • @MrPaknight

    You are right about the air temperature. There is not enough temper differential to make air density matter.
    As for opening the bottom, as you drive air is pulled out of the bottom of the vehicle, not sucked into the filter. Shouldn’t matter at all

    • @201231
      @201231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If u open up the exhaust it will work. The catalytic converter is already causing congestion open duel exhaust then cold air. There’s no way to push the air out faster so more air or colder air coming in won’t do a lot.

    • @saikothesergal
      @saikothesergal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, They do that stuff tp add extra volume inside the airbox. That way it helps with restriction because it can pull air from inside the intake as apposed to just through the filter very quickly. Its the same thing as adding a a capacitor to a subwoofer amplifier. It never seems to help tho with intakes :3

    The first time I popped the hood when I got my truck was look at how pinched off the tube to the air box is. I was certain that it was a bad design and can't possibly flow worth a damn. But after a lot of research it seems GM knew what they were doing. But its hard to convince anyone of that if they haven't done the research because to anyone looking at it it just looks painfully obvious that its just choking the air flow. But apparently its not. But it makes it sound a lot better and if you're planning to do headers and a cat back its worth it.

      I’ve dyno tests on my Silverado and the pinched tube on the OEM intake 100% chokes the throttle for air, over 4500 rpm it’s just not getting enough air, definitely recommend a high flow intake and a high flow exhaust, otherwise your just holding your engine back

    There's one issue with k&n filters. They're precoated and that can clog maf sensors. I had that issue with my 07 nbs lh6. I have the original 799 case heads and all aluminum block with cast iron rods and crank. I put a bully dog in her and redid full exhaust to 2.5 inch duals with an x pipe for scavenging. And dual in and out cherry bomb extreme. Done with 16 g 304 stainless piping cuz I live in iowa with 9x3.5 inch tips. And she sound beautiful now. Put on aftermarket highflow cats good for up to 5.9 litres in case I wanna bore it to a 5.7 and those are bolted straight to aftermarket ls1 designed log cabin shorty headers. And have the o2 sensors all intact. Gets 30-35 highway in economy mode. And I haven't raced it up I now roast tires with just a pedal drop. I run mickey thompson Deegan 38s for grip and I have no issues with laying rubber. I have yet to do a cold air intake. So idk. I have extra piping left and may do a custom designed intake as I can tig weld. Looking here to see if I can do it cheaper haha

    Sounds definitely better, did you disconnect the negative side of the battery? I’ve done that on every mod for my truck, it’s supposed to help the computer relearn parameters.

      Brayan Escobedo , like any fuel injected vehicle they run with the help of ECU/PCM. GM recommends after any powertrain service disconnect negative cable or both battery terminals. It helps the computer relearn parameters aka reboot

    When you take the air box plate off how does that effect us in the north were the elements are more extreme dusty roads slushy and wet in winter. Plate or no plate with 4 seasons of weather?????

    without updating the computer the computer would be confused of why you have a different air flow and could not adjust to it. In the long run it would hurt your car. it's a neat way to impress children

      Not true,the Ecu adjust afr.think about driving to different sea level the air has changed. The vehicle will perform better or worse depending on the elevation, but will not be damaged

    I bought one $80 from Amazon. Figured buy a slightly better one than the 40$ version.
    What a waste of money. Creative pictures made it look different I guess. The welds not all that great. Cheap filter and cheap air box.
    Another problem I have is that the stock engine especially within on it have tired engine mounts. The engine will be rocking. The intake is mounted to the frame and engine. Yes some 4" rubbers but they only give so much. Allot of it touches or can touch other parts in the engine bay. Hopefully you catch it before it makes a hole.
    I returned the thing. Will go another route.

    the smoother flowing intake tube is great. the conical open filter is garbage. get the tube and a drop in filter for the factory airbox.. best of both worlds. soo in short its half way a complete waste of money.

    You did 0 to 60 in 6 or 7 seconds, thats actually pretty good for a truck without a tune. I have a 05 GMC Sierra 1500 4wd SLT crew cab 5.3 with a mild tune and it won't do that. Then again I probably got about a thousand more pounds on me than that truck.

    If anyone believes that warm or hot intake air doesn't make a difference, they are dead wrong. When the carburetor heat is applied to a aircraft engine at runup... the RPM drop is Instant. Right now! Minimum 75 rpm.

      These intakes make absolutely no difference in the performance of the vehicle. To get any type of a gain you would also need to replace the mass airflow sensor even then it’s barely noticeable. Not to mention most of the time these cause the stock mass airflow to fail within a year due to the added dirt they also allow through.

    That tumor is there for when your at wide open throttle and you snap the throttle closed it allows air to escape in that cavity and not mess with the mass air flow sensor.
