My first ever ride in a Matatu was along that road from Nairobi. I managed to get the front seat. Big mistake on my part !!! I was so scared and jumpy at the way the guy drove it. I eventually told myself to calm down, go with the flow and enjoy the ride. The song I remember that was playing was: "Let your living water flow over my soul. Let your Holy Spirit come and take control." God was giving me a message I think. I did enjoy that trip and I have loved Kenya ever since.

I dont think Kenyans fully realise what a wonderful country they have. The majestic scenery. The contrast of the red earth to the green trees and plants. The potential of Kenya and her people is awesome.

Some people are just hating on Mt Kenya. Our towns are not as big due to various reasons:
    1) In Central Kenya, we have very many small towns that are close to each other, thus the towns cannot really grow to huge cities.
    - Kiambu - Ruiru (19 Kms)
    - Ruiru - Thika (20 Kms)
    - Kikuyu - Limuru (20 Kms)
    - Thika - Muranga (47 Kms)
    - Murang'a - Karatina (37 Kms)
    - Karatina - Nyeri (25 Kms)
    - Embu - Karatina (55 Kms)
    - Embu - Chuka (44 Kms)
    - Chuka - Meru (55 Kms)
    Just to name a few.
    2) Proximity to Nairobi,
    - Guys can simply rush to Nairobi without a huge hustle, unlike the Western region. Nairobi has greatly hindered the growth of towns, especially in Kiambu county. They have simply become Nairobi estates.
Yes, our towns need polishing, they look disorganised compared to Kakamega, but they are simply small towns. You have to understand that some politicians have brainwashed guys into thinking that Central is paradise. No, it is not. In fact, there are some people who think that Equity bank distributes money to the Mt Kenya folks. Please travel and have an open mind.
Also, these are the biggest towns in Mt Kenya region: Thika, Meru and Nyeri. (Am not sure whether to include Nakuru here as the majority of guys in Nakuru town are Kikuyus). When you are comparing Kakamega or Kisii, use Thika, Nyeri or Meru. If you want to compare Chuka, why don't you use Keroka?
    Thanks.

This brings back a lot of memories, being a chuka university student from 2015-2019, travelling all the way from Homa-Bay to this place for 4 years was so beautiful. This very same place saw me transform from a little boy to the responsible man that I am today. Chuka University is one of those universities that have rapidly grown in the country in terms of infrastructure. Well, I still miss the place to date. I will definitely take a road trip back to chuka soon

Chuka hills I traveled this route to meru hizo bends the driver can't afford to be carelss, and I can say Kenya is beautiful, I wonder how we came up with the narrative that better and good life is found in the city?? We must change our perspective.. The government should come up with plan to reduce rural to urban migration.. Me I chose to live in a small town of Nakuru, Nanyuki where there a space for growth,

  • @MrMaboboz

This town definitely has potential, some notable decent real estate coming up but I have issues with the county government when it comes to the physical planning of the town, no pedestrian walks and road markings. Love the greenery side of it though.

Sometimes I find these areas with sloppy lands very fascinating. If only they could find very good planners, experienced architects, engineers they could get very beautiful unique and modern buildings. Places like Embu really looks like a total mess!Chuka looks much better I think it’s because of the university.

Heyyyy the name Chuka is soooooo IGBO!!! So many Nigerian type names in Kenya. Like Nairobi is like Ny-Obi. Moyale, Njuko/Njuki is also Igbo. I notice that Nigerians get DNA traces in that area. However, I find so many of their words amongst Zim, Zambia, and Kenya...I can go on.

The video brings back memories of my four years at Chuka university. It would be a surprise to many that up to 2012-2013 most of our classes were in wooden classrooms and all roads around except for the Meru highway were untarmacked. Compared to other universities such as Meru and Kirinyaga that were chartered around the same period one can tell the leadership difference.

I also remember when my friend Henry and I alighted along the way to wait for a lift in a friends car to his in laws house. We waited at a "cafe" at the side of the road. There was a group of boys there watching me. So I thought this would be a good time to practise my Swahili. I used up ALL my Swahili on them but they didnt seem to understand a word I said. I thought whats wrong with me? Why cant I make anyone understand what I am saying? Then one of them came up to me and said in English. "Hey white man. Give me some money". What do you think I did?
