nice... been there a couple of times @12:05 you see a little clearing off to the left, i have a weather station there and there's been many a time i wished i could take the work truck down that strip and just see what it will do LOL and as far as the touch n go's, wouldn't that be a touch n touch n touch n touch n touch n touch n touch n touch and go :D
Ya know Cecil Field in Jax, FL was the alternate landing runway for Nasa. You can go do touch and goes all day long up there. I lived next to it when it was a Navy Base still. They are very friendly with amazing long runways, just class Delta now. Go have some fun :) Ask for the multiple touch and go on the same runway pass!
WOW! That was AWESOME!! I have always been a NASA junkie and loved watching all the Space Shuttle missions! Thanks for the great vid!... wish I lived in Florida. KEET is a little too far away ;)!
I was disappointed when at Sun N Fun this year. After the week at the airshow I went to Orlando and flew out of Sanford. Unfortunately we were denied the opportunity. Would have ticked one off my bucket list esp coming from Australia, but will see if can do next year when back again.
I'd absolutely love to do this low approach some day. I felt honored many years back to have a NASA badge and work at this facility for a couple of days. Just being allowed in was amazing.
havent done that for a while. i wanna go do it again in our bush plane we use at school... talk about 45 mph down one of the longest runway in florida LOL
A low approach over KTTS was my first flight lesson. When I did it after I got my license, I realized how it’s sheer size messes with your visual perception. It’s easy to get a low pass if you know the guys up in the control tower.
Hey Ludix! Great video!! I think I've asked this question before, but you may have updated since then... I was wondering how you record the cockpit audio and the audio from the from the gopros? I have always wanted to know how to do that.
So... what does the NASA controller do when there's no space landings going on, and there aren't any pilots around wanting to play tourist? Does he sit around all day playing games on his phone? Or is there actually enough air traffic in the area? (I did hear the controller talking to a helicopter at 11:30.)
I have my plane based at X21 only a few miles to the West of that runway, so you may imagine I fly this low approach often, I've done it a lot and it really doesn't get old, especially when I take someone new up. Much of the time the tower is not manned and there is very little traffic out there that I've ever seen. They have some test planes (including 104 Starfighters) out there that use that runway and other flight ops and ground ops (testing ground vehicles on the runway) for the space center and some private industry. Most of the time I do the approach it's just self announce, pretty cool making position calls "NASA traffic..."
Just curious - why would you fly without an iPad in that congested airspace? is it just the time it takes to set up the mount? Why not use the most obvious and dirt cheap thing that keeps you away from traffic?
Preflight planning. I believe I had an EFB on my phone but having a clear plan allowed me to know exactly what route I would take and altitudes I’d maintain. Pilots these days are heavily reliant on EFB’s, and while I love them, I’ll never allow myself to become fully reliant on them.
Great response to that question. Pilots need to know the basics of aviating. Planning your trip and knowing your airspace is a key fundamental. Especially when you are VFR. Your attention needs to be outside as much as possible. I love watching your videos for this exact reason. You’re a skilled and knowledgeable aviator that isn’t over reliant on electronics. More should learn from you. Greetings from a fellow professional pilot in the Central Florida area.
@@LewDixAviation I was talking about traffic avoidance. Surely you don't need an iPad to navigate if you're flying in an area you're closely familiar with.
Hello! My name is Matthew and I have a school project in which I am creating a PSA on why more people should become pilots. I was wondering if I could take some clips from videos on your TH-cam channel to use as some b-roll (with you being credited on screen of course). Please let me know!

I love the subtle “can’t see it because of the wings but it’s fine”
😂 you caught it
🤨
How coincidental, I was given clearance for a low approach on RWY 15 at or above 100ft. Yesterday 10/19. What an experience. Love your channel!
Great flight and love how much fun you have in the sky. Really enjoying your channel. All the best to you!
Thank you so much!

If your available last week in December, I’m going to be down in the Tampa area from Iowa. Absolutely love the TH-cam channel!
Thanks again Lewis….lovely stuff
Cheers mate! Was great to meet and fly with you finally!

Great footage Lew!
Thanks Mike!
Such a great aviation "bucket" list item! Flying with you, that is... the NASA area is pretty cool too I guess.
Haha this comment is my favourite
I think I just added another item to my 100-things-to-do-before-dying list. Awesome low approach!
Make it happen 🙌🏻

@@LewDixAviation I was really sad when they said I had to give the badge back. That would have been a cool memento.

You should have asked while on approach/climb out of tower could give you a phone number over frequency. That way you know where to call the next time
Do you have ForeFlight with you just for traffic and stuff
I don’t have foreflight but I plan my flights and know exactly what I’m going to do so I don’t have to be fully reliant on an EFB.
That is a trip I feel like I MUST take!
In a cool hat maybe?
@@LewDixAviation Now there's a grand idea!!!

Superb. While the Shuttle runway is impressive, for me its the VAB. That's where the rockets were assembled to take man to the moon.
The VAB is amazing. It's so tall it has its own climate.
Very cool. Basically, that's a 3-mile long runway.
I got to do that back in October 2020....must have got lucky because they asked me to keep it to 100 feet.
