The fact that the girl in the second story still didn’t know about his crush on her even after she married his brother really seals the deal, he was mean to her after her dad died and she didn’t even know why. 48:20 I think my main problem isn't even with NL's outlook, but mainly just his interpretation that seems to be (from this bit) that the husband is the one bringing the issues. Like my man just got a ticket from his work and wanted to bring his wife to his exciting work thing, then his wife created the problem basically being like "I want your seat" and my man ceded. The legal analogy is more like his wife brought the charges against him and his defence is rock solid, then NL as the judge is like "you sure you don't wanna just lose this case for brownie points?" I think, and act out, in many situations where you give your partner something over yourself to make them happy, but this one doesn't really make sense.

Not only is she wrong on principle, she's making a big deal out of it and then she calls *him* a baby lol. She's acting like he should always give her any extra stuff he gets, which is why she's using the gentleman card on him. She can ask if she can fly first class and him fly coach, but if he says no, "alright. That's ok" and move on. The husband is 100% not at fault here.

You’re basically reiterating exactly why she’s wrong on principle. She sucks here. NL just gives some general advice on if you’re in a situation where you can make your partner happier. Ideally you wouldn’t want to be with someone acting like this in the first place… but if you are, your path to greater happiness might include what NL prescribes. Both partners should be willing to give up the seat cuz they appreciate each other, and the guy deserves it more… but everyone’s actions make this a bigger deal than it should be. Yet obviously, she’s more in the wrong (on principle, or however you want to phrase it lol)

"In principle" she's wrong cuz yeah, *he* earned the flight, that's it. Done. But there's more to the story than that. Her acting like a child. Her still expecting old gender norms. Etc. NL even said "am I going crazy" cuz of all the comments pointing these things out about her 😂

@@KevinAccetta i agree i sort of saw some of that in there, but his view on making a partner happy seems to explain away interpreting it as gender norms. There were definitely a few sentences that made me disagree for a hot sec but he basically pulled it together in a coherent worldview that i agree with. It was funny that he seemed surprised that people were clearcut about her being the asshole, which she is. He just thinks the dude’s not super sane due to being seemingly incapable of weighing his instant gratification against the long term happiness. However the wife wrote this and she’s an entitled asshole, so NL’s frustration that people aren’t also coming at it from that completely different angle is kind of silly, even though I think it’s a great point.

Like for me personally that one incident would make me question the kind of person im with, but it is also just one reddit post so theres not much to go off of

Regarding the birthday singing post, as someone with anxiety, I think there's a difference between unprompted/unconsented celebration and something like "we planned and I regretted". Obviously the lack of communication on her part was horrible. But it's totally fine to get embarrassed or upset if he didn't ask first. When you agree to have a kid in your life you don't agree to being excluded from planning things. Not defending the whole story, but she definitely wasn't crazy for being embarrassed, the reaction to it and how she handled it after is another matter

AITA: I kinda relate the the second dude. Like I have an uncle who… to be 100% frank touched my cousin when she was little, and continues to take advantage of my grandmother financially(ie. dropping his baby and girl friend off with my grandmother for food and a home most days of the week, taking her car and breaking shit in it, she has to ask to barrow her own vehicle. This dude really sucks, he’s already ruined one of her cars to the point she had to replace it[my grandmother isn’t rich and has been struggling just to get groceries in recent times]. He’s already starting breaking things in her new car. long story short he sucks hard, trust there is more but I don’t wanna make this whole comment just me auditing all the god awful shit he’s done to me my cousin and my grandmother) Moral of the story, I never go to any family occasions if he’s invited, I’ve cut him out of my life as much as I can. I don’t hate my new cousin and his child, but cause of my deep found hatred for my uncle, I don’t often find myself around my now toddler cousin. That birthday story was just sad. Hope the woman will work on whatever self-esteem issues she has to be honest. She should admire how outgoing and happy her bf is treating his son, he's setting him up to live a life knowing he has the right to talk, be happy and MAKE other people happy through small gestures. Like the way she talks about how loud he sings just sounds awesome in my head, yet she tries so hard to describe it as negative and embarrassing.
Maybe it's just the line of work I'm in and my general acceptance of things like this, but I'd be HAPPY if more people shared their celebrations instead of bittering away in a corner and being mad at people who don't.

I disagree with NL sometimes in react court, but the plane seat one might be the worst take he has ever had. How is he blaming the guy, and disagreeing with the comment about her being entitled and greedy? I know you have to compromise in relationships but this wasn't one of them.
I don't think he's blaming the husband necessarily, he's only suggesting that the husband could've used this situation to his advantage (offer the seat, make him gain good husband points) instead of arguing about it and ending up in the coach seat anyway
@@SimCityOver9000 The issue for me is that she created the argument from thin air and then he's supposed to cede for seemingly no reason despite him coming across like a decent person (and this is in the post from her perspective too). I don't know what kind of benefits he's expecting to get from someone who got mad and created an argument because he was taking the seat he got given.
