    Can I ask what's the importance of knowing these ABO subgroups?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is a really good question.
      There are 3 main reasons that we classified ABO in to subgroups
      1. To solve ABO discrepancies
      2. To Make sure that the reaction we see is not from clinical significant antibody
      3. For transfusion purposes
      For instance, if a patient has a weak reaction in the reverse typing, without additional tests, we cannot say that the reaction is from clinical significant antibody or from other reactions (rouleaux or subgroup).
      Let me give you another example. Not all group A bloods are identical, in term of their antigen. If a patient has group A blood type patient with antiA1 antibody, it maybe wiser to transfuse with give group O RBC instead of group A.

    6:00 Reverse of A2: I think there should be a reaction in the reverse of A2 since A2 has an Anti-A1.

    What information can be derived from antibody screening of ABO blood group

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The information is used for safe transfusion. If we transfer wrong blood type, the patient could die in minutes. Antibody screen helps prevent transfusion reactions.

    Which are the tests to detect weak variant of weak A and Weak B antigen?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A and B antigens are cold-reacting antigens, which means we can enhance the weak A and weak B antigens-antisera reaction with cold incubation. You can do this by placing your mixture of the patient's RBC and antisera in a 4C incubator for 15 min before reading the reaction. For the A and B variants, we could do the molecular test.

    What is the difference between anti-A1 and anti-A1 lectin?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question!
      I think you are asking what is the different between A1 reference cells and antisera A1 lectin.
      A1 reference cell tests antibody in patients’ plasma. You will mix patient’s plasma with A1 reference cell, centrifuge and read the reaction.
      The antisera A1 lectin tests antigen on the patient’s RBC. You will mix patient’s RBC with antisera A1 lectin, centrifuge, and read the reaction. A1 subgroup patient will react with anti-A1 lectin.
      The other reagent that used in blood tying is antisera A series 1. This tests the antigen on the patient’s RBC. You will mix patient’s RBC with antisera A, centrifuge, and read the reaction.
      A blood type react with anti-A
      A blood type with A1 subgroup react with anti-A and anti-A1 lectin.
      A1 subgroup patient stills has blood type A.
      Anti-A = antisera A series 1
      Anti-A1 lectin = anti-A1 lectin
      A cell = A reference cell
      Note: this A reference cell can be A or A subgroup

    ABO group : A subgroup..
    Anti A1antibodies are not detected.. Which means A2 is present. ???🤔

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Technically no because there are other subgroups; however, the probability is nighter to be A2 subgroup.

    Hi mam I am from India
    I have one doubt,
    Is AB+ and A1B+ are same blood group or not?
    Because my blood group is A1B+ mam . Is this blood group is rare ?🤔🤔

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A1B is a subgroub of AB blood type. A1B is quite rare. You are unique and only a hand full in the population have it. It is only ~3% over all, but it's 80% of all AB individuals.
      However, in term of transfusion, it may be different in each hospital. In my hospital an A1B individual who has anti-A1 present and reacting at 37C receives group O blood.

    • @rebo4479
      @rebo4479 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BloodTalks so A1 or A1B receives O but A2 or A2B blood receives A or O OR AB or O, correct? So donor A blood will agglutinate A1 blood or cause a transfusion reaction? I can’t figure this out, I’m trying to make sense of this.

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi reb O! I know it could be really confusing.
      Blood type A1 and A2 can received group A and O RBC if they do not have anti-A2 or anti-A1. However, usually discover the subgroup when there is a discrepancy in blood typing. With that in mind, I would give A1 neg RBC or O to A2 patient.
      Blood type A1B and A2B can receive group A, AB or O RBC if they do not have anti-A1 or anti-A2. Again A2B people with antiA1 should be getting A1 neg RBC.
      I hope these helps.
