    I gotta say the longer throws on the tailrons helped out. I believe if I was on the book rates it couldn't stay in the air like that.

    Excellent and calm piloting, Will. Thanks too for all the information in the Videos. I'm hoping to assemble mine in time to fly next weekend if weather permits. As we fly from a grass strip which is still a little rough from the dreadful weather we're having in the U.K, I will be sure to regularly check for the kind of damage you exposed. Also, from past experience I tend to apply a firm tug test to all my EPO EDF a/c control surfaces and re-glue as necessary.

    From your video, it looks like the fuselage buckled behind the gear and blocked the wing from sweeping. I just happen to have a wrecked fuselage and there is an 8mm carbon tube right behind the gear bracket in the fuselage. Unfortunately, the tube touches the bracket but that's it. This leaves a weak spot at the back edge of the swept wing spar mount. If they had just extended that LG bracket to create an insertion hole for the tube that would have reduced the chance of buckling the fuselage behind the gear.

    So I am going to say this much. I believe it's an oversight on manufacturing in the parts that pertain to the wing sweep mechanism. The structure that is housing the pivoting mechanism is too weak to support the either intended or unintended design, dual purpose function of supporting the main landing gear and wing sweep feature. In either case I wonder when this product was test were the take off and landings were on smooth geotech or grass ops? With that being said perklhaps this was not caught during testing because for the most part the testers themselves are skilled pilots and knew exactly how to fly her in under power, but still product specialists, designers and manufacturers need to keep into consideration the grass ops pilots, which are a lot of us because not to many of us own or fly from geotech turf. It's either asphalt or grass. No excuse, product has to be tested out for bad landings as well. I believe freewing will do the right thing and either create a reinforcement kit or have a stone cold failed plane that won't sell do to its increasingly bad reputation that is becoming an epidemic in the hobby.

    • @rcpilotwill
      @rcpilotwill  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I believe the product is good. Just somethings they have to find thru beta testing and we are the testers at our own cost. But just like the MiG-29 Twin 80 they made things right.

    Once again, why didnt they extend the plate 2 to 3 inches back above the retract? They stated that they fixed the problem from the 80mm, once again there is not enough support above the main retracts! Your landing was beautiful! It should be able to withstand some minor roughness in a field. Im happy that i didnt pull the trigger on this plane. Just ask fat guy flies rc!!! Robert

    • @rcpilotwill

      Yeah FGFRC was not happy but to me overall it's a good jet just needs a few mods for harder than normal landings and bumps in the field

  • @afbenaza
    @afbenaza 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Taxi, take off, and landing on grass really stresses the foam and landing gear on planes. Its really only a matter of time until something breaks. One of the fields i fly from doesnt have a well maintained grass runway. Its literally just a field. Theres a paved street next to the field that we use to take off from. Then use the grass to land. Its one of those areas where you have to choose between risking running into the sidewalks or land on uneven grass. Damned if you do, damned if you dont. No matter how good a pilot, every week someone either strips landing gear on the grass, or smashes into the sidewalk. 😔

    • @rcpilotwill
      @rcpilotwill  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah its unfortunate we don't have a smooth surface runway but there is plans to roll the field. I like my field its nice but hard surface can hurt to if you drop in to hard lol.

    I was at an air show when someone asked if 1 swept 1 full out wing ever happened . My father who worked for Grumman designing and testing the f14 quickly said no it never happened because Grumman had a steel bar that prevented that from happening. The pilot said it did happen once when one of those steel bars snapped due to chaffing. He knew this because he was the pilot that it happened to. He called in a mayday and was told he had permission to eject and lose the f14. He decided to try to land and had to fly with full left stick but he did manage to save the aircraft and land the plane ! You have to have big attachments to be a fighter pilot !

    Maybe some carbon rods through the foam and a carbon plate epoxied on the top? I do wish the servos where closer to 30g. I think they need to be strong enough to press the wings against their bump stops. If not then its purely the servo keeping the wing where its at. I dont trust my left wing servo. Seems like it needs more torque
