  • We are keeping it 100% Real for you guys. You win some, and you lose some. We are at a loss for words here and do not understand what happened with this crash. Initially, I did not have any issue like this when putting the flaps down two times before this incident. We were about to come down the final stretch, and I went to put the flaps in. When I got to full flaps, the plane shot straight down into the ground, as you all see. There was no mix in the transmitter when I checked after the crash. We will be buying an ARF Plus Kit in the near future. We really appreciate you guys taking the time to check out the video! Please consider smashing the like and subscribe button if you have not already done so! We are still on the horse and will not let this bring us down. We have some more Jets to fly this weekend. It is all a part of it; at least it was not a total loss! We could save the wings, rudders, main gear, elevators, and servos that were not in the nose of the jet. If anything, it is more motivation to return to the air again. ‪@MotionRC‬ ‪@kmrcmodel155‬ #hamiltonhangar #edf #freewing

    Bummer city. At 3.50 exactly when you deployed flaps it dropped it nose violently. I zoomed in 8x and you can watch it pitch down . I suspect a bad board mix ( as if down elevator kicked in with no delay and just dumped it. Shit happens, its part of our hobby. So sorry to see it happen. Camera footage was way way better . Camera lady got it 👍 dialed in . Nice job. Very very difficult job filming these planes . Blue skys make it harder. Youll be back with a new ARF . Rainy day project. Till then chin up. I respect your coolness and composure throughout the crash. 👍

    I'm sorry to see your F-14 crashed.
    As an employee of Freewing, my mood is as unhappy as yours.
    I have watched this video many times with the engineers, although we have no way of knowing exactly what happened. But we can see from this video :
    3’44”to 3’47”, the plane was flying normally.
    3’47”, the plane suddenly made a severe tilt to the left, nearly 90 degrees to the left.
    3’47”to 3’48”, the left tilt was corrected, the aircraft approached the horizontal position, and continued to turn around.
    3’49”to 3’50”, the radio switch can be heard in the video, and then the nose immediately straight down…
    From the above points of view, before the operation of the switch, the state of the aircraft is normal, even if it is 90 degrees to the left, it can be quickly corrected. At the same time, there is no indication that the speed of the aircraft will affect the control throughout the process. One thing can be confirmed: the crash is caused by the switch action.
    If the switch is only control the flap action, it is unlikely to cause this phenomenon. Generally, if there is a trouble was happened when flaps down, the plane will not goes down as same as the video’s show.
    Of course, from the current information, I can not accurately judge the original cause of the accident. I think the setting of the radio and the action of each servo are the key items for inspection.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on our vide. It is much appreciated! When she was tilted to the left I was taking my Stocking cap off with my left hand and holding the Transmitter in the right and then I grabbed it with both hands and then straightened her out. We do agree that happened right after the switch action, but there was no mix put into the transmitter and I only use that three position switch for the flaps on all of birds using that transmitter for constant familiarity. We ut the flaps down in the prior video in full and didnt react the same. Weird right?? I was speaking with Dorah about a Blue Brudge because I was having issues with my gyro gains. Ill just have to buy another one if needed lol she was flying good. Thank you again!

    To the people saying you were going too slow and it caused a stall… that’s a little delusional lol… the jet literally went straight into the floor 😂😂 never in my life have I seen a jet pile drive itself into the floor because of flaps even at slow speeds.. the community loves to diagnose everything as pilot error.. this was clearly not that.

    • @robflyrc
      @robflyrc หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I saw that in my MiG-23 and ended exactly the same :-)
      Regarding pilot error, yes 99% crashes are because pilot did or didn't do smth. Did't checked wires and soldering, didn't check the CoG or reverses , did configure wrong mixes or didn't check them. Even planes from the market should be detailed checked, or especially from the market. I am an engineer, a builder, a fitter, a pilot - I am all of them. So yeah, when I crush, i take responsibility fully. :-)

      I have to agree. It's an easy plane to fly with wings in and out but I'm having a hard time landing it. You think you're glide slope is fine and it stalls. You come in too hot, it bounces. So, after 8 flights, I'm still working on the landings.

    I crashed my F14 a couple of days ago. I had a total of 12 flights on it. The first 4 or 5 flights the plane flew fine with gyro in stabilized mode. The next few flights it started to try to tip stall to the right while landing. On my final flight I was doing a left hand turn when all of a sudden the plane turned violently to the right and went into a dive from which I could not recover. I will not be getting another one of these F14s . I kind of have the feeling that Freewing released this plane on the market before working out the bugs in the gyro.

    That hurts. Sorry for your loss. Do you have maybe telemetry on your transmitter, if so maybe that would tell you what definitely went wrong. But thing that gets me is you said you raised the flaps and dropped the gear and then after crash you said you had the flaps down. But that's just me. I hope everything goes good on rebuild, but this does not deter myself getting one as I already have a good idea about the flight characteristics of this bird, I fly DCS. Good luck.

  • @tommyyates4639

    Did you have a separate battery on the receiver or were you using the board to power the receiver from the main battery? I lost an F15 the same way. I wish FW would design where you can plug a jumper and run the receiver from a separate battery. Any addition input such as flaps or gear can briefly cause a power fluctuation to the receiver causing it to lose the servo function. Elevator is almost always the first to go on a jet.

I’ve had planes freak out when the flaps were deployed as well, most of the time I don’t even use flaps while turning, I usually wait until I line up straight on the approach first, flaps can do some freaky stuff while banking, especially flying a bit slow in the bank, hopefully you get a new ARF up and running again brother 👊🇺🇸 ps: glad Mac and Goose are ok 😅

    Super nice flight. Man sorry about the mishap. I watched it in slow motion and clearly you were level then you clicked the flap. Is there a control board in the jet kinda like the blue box? Cause to me it looks like something took your flap to elevator mix and over-input the elevator signal. It's strange cause you did test it once and had no problems. If there is a board or box I'd consider bypassing it on the next one.

    Was the gyro on? You were moving fairly fast, so it could have reacted to the sudden lift from the flap. Whats also odd is both tailerons are perfectly flat and level after the fact. Did you try any inputs as it dove for the deck? If you have your flap switch on the same side as your pitch and roll you need to switch the flap button to the other side so you cane keep your fingers in control while engaging the flap. Not dissing your abilities just giving you stuff to think about for avoidance for the next time. And fly a few more approaches before you actually set up to land where its not just another pass but close to a touch and go.

    After looking over your plane, did you notice a flap hinge unglued? I have read in the rc forums of some issues with not enough glue and flaps coming off before flights. I agree with you that it just dropped after you flipped on flaps. Possible it detached in flight.

    So I made a comment awhile back suggesting it happened cause you put the flaps down while in a steep bank. I would now like to retract my statement as is becoming more evident that the FW control box or mixing board is at fault. I crashed my Avanti a couple weeks back for no good reason. I tested all the servos and they are fine. The ESC is fine as is my rx. When the mixing board is plugged in the servos lose 70% of there strength! I believe this is intentional by FW so that you run right out to buy another, never suspecting it was there junk to blame. I have since then hard wired all my servos to the Rx and they now operate at full strength. My apologizes. It was not your fault at all.

      I agree he was below no flap stall speed reacted them abruptly instant stall. Not easy to fly these at slow speeds I have a freewing F-15 airspeed bleeds off fast always having to push the nose down keep the speed up during landing. Once drop the flaps don't raise them until going lot faster seen this before.

      They are on a 1.5 second delay. Check out the first video of the maiden. It does not react the same. Thank you for watching! I took my hat off and gave it too much left, straightened out, and then hit the flaps. Plenty of airspeed to withstand all of that. It’s what it is and I hope I get a new one or reimbursed idk, anything at this point. 🫡

      @@hamiltonshangar Yes, this is very clear if you watch on .25x speed. You roll wings level. Then there's a pause. You hear the controller beep, and there's an immediate violent pitch down into the ground. There was no roll or yaw moment that I could see. It looks like the plane had gone past inverted before crashing. Given enough altitude, it may have completed a huge outside loop.

I always use the speed function to slow the movement of flaps, so that when they deploy or retract, they move slowly. This way they are less likely to upset the aircraft. It does look like there was something else tied to the switch you moved to deploy the flaps. I would dig deeper into the radio programming. Look at the servo output monitor and move all of the switches and dials to make sure there is no unusual output to the elevator.

    I’ve had this as well but in the 80mm tomcat. Had the flaps down at high speed and had a huge pitching moment nose down. I think it’s partially to do with the deployment speed… gotta wait for white arc

    Why would you bring the flap in on a high speed steep banked turn? Also you said at the start you had a mix in. Then at the end you said you didn't have a mix in. Which is it?

    • @hamiltonshangar
      @hamiltonshangar  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was only a little more than half flaps and I straightened her out she wa snot in a full turn and easily could have taken the flap deployment on a delay of 1.5 seconds. as she sits in the Maiden. Thank you for watching!

      @hamiltonshangar Problem is with some jets. (Worse one being the eflite havoc) But I have experienced it with a freewing Mirage too. In a fast steep bank you can get a high speed wing tip stall. If you then introduce flaps and further stall the wing. Well of course catastrophe. But then this doesn't like like a stall. It looks like a control input straight down. That's why I asked about the mix. Wondered if you had mixed the wrong way with flap.
      Also flaps at high speed aren't flaps. They're additional control services. I once had a precedent low by when I was younger and didn't have the flaps hooked up because couldn't afford an rx with enough channels. The flaps dropped in flight and it almost did a loop! Of course you would expect a rapid climb though not a dive.

    Something similar happened on my 90mm F-18. One of the flap servos wasn't strong enough to lower the flap all the way with air pressure. Almost lost it just like that, luckily, I was much higher when it happened.

    All I can see is that the left flap is loose.. If this occured before the crash this would explain the spiraling down, two seconds before you already had to correct severe aileron. So sorry for you man!

    Horrible Buddy. I’m not a Jet guy, but maby when you deployed the flaps in a steep turn, the left wing could have lost all energy underneath it. Just a guess. Anyways, great video.

    There was a bit of a tip stall in the initiation of that turn and I think the flaps exacerbated the low speed situation😢 bummer bro, I went through so many planes😂😂 screw it, keep it up. It's just a great excuse to go build another one. That air frame can get really twitchy at low speeds. That's why I like the F-22. Definitely a great floater plane and you can add on oversized 12-blade fan and soup it up.

  • @rayshivjee2672
    @rayshivjee2672 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just my thoughts, but retracting the flaps in a turn caused a stall.
    Half flap, like you had,reduces the stall speed of the wing (allows the model to fly slower), but as soon as you retract them the model will stall if too slow or banked a lot..
    Just my opinion, keep the videos coming!

    Well that was not good!. Companies typically cheap out on the flap servos and do not use metal gear high torque servos. Wonder what kind of flap servo is in that jet? It was definitely a failure of control surfaces and no way to recover once it happened. I never fly with a gyro also. Seen too many planes of late go it with some self induced flight control gyro issue. Good luck!

    I'd suggest that one flap servo failed and one went into the correct position, or one flap control rod may have failed. That's what it looked like anyway. I've had a flap control rod fail and it looked like that, but I always have my flaps on a 4 second slow deployment setting, so if something goes wrong its not as abrupt and you should have time to recover. Not a forgiving jet the F14, quite the opposite in fact, just part of the hobby, but it hurts, we have all been there.

    when I fitted a Spektrum receiver to mine which had SAFE/AS3X disabled , during bench tests when flaps lowered with gear down it made elevators go in opposing directions , as did ailerons which would have crashed the jet. When gear up worked fine. for some reason there is some issue unless you use a totally dumb receiver which I now have fitted. This was reported to Motion RC after a few helpline discussions. Note in one of their videos they say you can fit a gyro receiver as long as its disabled, hopefully they will correct this

    Sorry about that, it's tough doing that walk of shame to the plane sight and picking up everything salvageable. I figure you are an expert flyer. I really believe you may have a glitch or some issue with your E20 gyro/sequencer. I am not a fan of gyros. That's from my own experience I just don't trust them entirely. Lets say you figure it's a gyro problem, can you switch it off in time to save the plane for like models that have them built in?
    I looked on a forum for this plane's gyro here's the convo:
    "If you leave the gyro lead unplugged, it is essentially in the 'normal' (non-self leveling) gyro mode. Though, for first flights, is always good to takeoff with the gyro off, and turn the gyro on up high initially, just for safety to make sure all is working well first. Same thing with thrust reversing, you just don't get thrust reversing when the lead is unplugged."
    later a person asked the above person about the gyro and got his ans: "There is electronic programming in the sequencer/gyro to prevent any issues. If you have the flaps down, the wings won't sweep. If you have the wings swept, the flaps won't go down. Wes(from motion rc video on gyro) goes over it around 20 minutes into the assembly video that is on the product page if you want to see what I mean".
    You may have done this just trying to help some if it possibly could be the gyro, otherwise thanks for sharing have an awesome Easter Sunday.

  • @TheRCAviator
    @TheRCAviator 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That was not a stall. Right after the switch clicked, it pitched straight down. If it had a gyro in it, the gyro could have come loose and gave it down elevator. I saw an E-flite Cherokee do the same thing.

    A club member brought this new jet last week. He had the most experienced jet pilot maiden it. Almost immediately he was having problems with the pitch. He struggled through several wild up's and down's and finally it went straight in and totaled it. The owner was super p-o'd

    • @roanlagos
      @roanlagos 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      This is why I no longer maiden jets for any club members. They have no right to be pissed if they give their new aircraft for someone else to maiden. If they are not comfortable maidening their own aircraft, they should no be flying it.
      As the ‘test pilot’ for someone else’s plane you have no idea how it was setup or put together. I don’t need the guilt of trashing someone’s plane if I have no control over the setup or assembly. **rant complete ** 😅

      Had the pilot checked the gyro on pitch response before flight, or before and after flipping certain switch(es)? Mine came with gyro pitch response reversed and manually corrected per Wes' video from motionrc

    • @douglasallen7896
      @douglasallen7896 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I was the experienced pilot who did the maiden flight. What Bob described above is accurate. Jet had plenty of power for takeoff, but I immediately had stability issues. I thoroughly went over the plane and it was all good. I did not use the stock gyro, I had set the switch to disabled. This is because I have always flown EDF jet maidens with Spektrum Rx's without AS3X or SAFE enabled. Then after it's trimmed I engage as3x and SAFE. We have another experienced pilot ready to maiden his on Thursday, we'll see how he does. He told me he will be using the Freewing Gyro. OBTW, the owner was not PO'd at me, we have a long history of working together, he was just PO'd that it crashed.

    • @edwen303
      @edwen303 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So the gyro pitch response had been checked prior to maiden? I caught the reversed pitch response in mine (not maiden yet, you guys' crash videos scared me lol), it was not easy to catch but cruicial preflight check
