If Steph Curry played back then he wouldn't have the stats he currently has. And if a healthy Larry Bird played in today's NBA he'd dominate the league. The Boston fans loved him because of the way he played. The fans were predominantly blue collar hard working people and Larry was no primadonna. He sacrificed his body through hustle and determination to win and to make everyone on the team better. No one played the game harder, smarter and with intensity like Larry Bird.
Lol nobody can guard Steph back than ,Larry would fit better with shooting now and passing but Steph would be great in any era this is the problem with a lot of old heads you overhype the old era and act like it was a war zone
@@goldmo2427 Steph would be a great shooter in any era but the 3 point shot wasn't a big part of the game back then. The 3pt shot came into the NBA for the 1979-80 season. It took almost a decade for the coaches to come around and realize the 3 points shot was a weapon. The league leaders back then averaged 2-3 attempts per game until Michael Adams joined the league in 88. He was the first to get 350 attempts in a season. He would not have been what he is now. 3:50 The hardest thing to explain to young fans is that the fake only works if you are a TRUE triple threat.. and Larry legend was the ultimate triple threat!
A Courtship of Rivals tells the Bird and Magic story beautifully. The competition to the friendship that developed to the Dream Team. It's an amazing story ❤
Watched one youngster today reacting to this same video…he legit said “Larry Bird wouldn’t make half them ugly shots if I was guarding him!” Laughed my ass off and immediately clicked off his video. You had a good reaction, and I appreciate you actually paying attention to the whole thing!
"If the game depended on the shot, I'll take Jordan. If my life depended on that shot, I'm going with Bird" Pat Riley. He came back into that playoff game with the Pacers with a broken cheekbone and a severe concussion and was seeing double. Rumor has it that he sneaked away from the trainer to get back on the court.
In the segment of Larry Bird getting hurt. The announcer states that he is back on the floor with a fracture of the right cheek. That doesn't tell the whole story, Larry made those shots after returning with the eye on the fracture side being completely blurry, he only had complete vision in one eye for the rest of that game. Keep in mind that you need two eyes for depth perception.
@Munroe's Corner There's also a video of Larry Bird where they tell about Larry's father committing suicide that Larry also had to deal with while he was playing! Bird was a freak of nature.
Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, and was what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched!
I’ve always been a Bird fan! But I also loved James Worthy. We went to the same middle school (Highland Rams) and the same High school (Ashbrook Greenwave) in Gastonia NC, him and Sleepy Floyd were home town Hero’s. But my dad was a huge Celtics fan, so that’s my story with Larry!
One of the most amazing things about was Bird swept Jordan each year in the Playoffs. Jordan never got a a single game against Bird. Bird swept Jordan in the Playoffs.
That Pacers game where he came back injured was bad! He broke his dang cheekbone when his face hit the floor!! Slipped away from the doctor in the locker room and came back out to play...and play to win! *shakes head* Can you imagine any of today's players doing that?!? They'd stay out for a hangnail! Lol I loved watching him because it was like he had eyes everywhere! He knew where everybody was on the court. It was amazing to watch. And man could he shoot in a pinch, no matter who was guarding him!
Larry did the one thing none of the greatest players of his era could do/duplicate. He beat them all in the championship. Jordan,Pippen, Magic, Jabbar, etc etc etc. No he did not beat them in every championship he faced them in but he did get a championship against each one of the era's greats. I didn't learn that until Bird had been retired a couple years. If I had just thought about all the championships he'd been in it would have jumped out immediately. Funny how the mind sometimes works.
The eastern conference was an absolute meat grinder in the 80's. Making it out of the first round playoffs was an accomplishment. The west was so weak the Lakers never got challenged in the regular season.
I live out here in tha bay. been a Celtics fan since early 80s, go way back. I enjoy the W's... but the Celtics have always been Champions. Lets get another one!!
The reason Larry’s fakes worked so well was because he was the greatest passer in the league. So if he wasnt faking, you knew DJ or Danny were about to score. He always found a hole. So when he didn’t pass but faked…it got you…every single time.
FINALLY, haven't said a word since you guys did RATM-songs but I hoped u dig into some old school NBA some day. And BIRD on top of that?! Glued guy over here, and if you also do Wilt, Hakeem and Kobe to finish off my top 5 I'm getting glue-poisoned! 😬😁👍
I liked your reaction. You actually heard all the words the video chose to put it in. And you actually absorbed the video, instead of constantly comparing to others .
Totally agree with you. These players today are prima donnas.. Bird loved the game and respected his toughest competitors so much he didn't want to be guarded by white players.
You ain't lying, I miss Jordan, magic, and bird so bad, it ain't the same. Jordan is the goat at least from the last 50-60 years but Larry tripped me out because he always looked like a slow white boy just moving in slo-mo but he would just put on a dang clinic and if he ever got in their head it was over.
Enjoyed the vid. One correction, though. 13:20 Larry didn't get to "go home and put myself on some ice". They took Larry right to the hospital after that Pacer's game. 😎

You should check out Pistol Pete Maravich, he was an unbelievable player on a crappy team for most of his injury shortened pro career and is still the all-time NCAA points leader which he did in the 60s before the three point rule and in only three years because he wasn't eligible to play on the varsity team his freshman year !!!
FYI, I believe Greenville should honor their largest celebrity and greatest athlete, Kevin Garnett... especially by renaming Springfield Park (the very place where he developed his skills) to Kevin Garnett Park.
Hey bro just a comment that I have. I find the best guys to watch on TH-cam are the ones that make the basketball the big screen and themselves the small screen. Bird actually retired in 92 but the Ceremony was in 93. On a night with no game, and it was sold out!
That's Dominique Wilkens mopping the floor @ 5:36, and people say Larry wasn't athletic.

Bird and Magic were great competitors. Those two guys were great teammates on the dreamteam too if I recall correctly.
They could have called Bird magic too really, he was great.
