    I love propagation too!😍. I have propagated trees by permission of the nursery owners they consider weeds. I have propagated all kinds of maple trees from Japanese kind to giant sugar, and many kinds of evergreens and star junipers. Even broken fruit tree branches. Sometimes I buy the tree or plant to be able to propagate, usually in the discount area. I once landscape a full back yard doing this. Only a few rare type trees I had to buy but only buy the smallest ones availible. I feel very encouraged by you. I always got permission and have never been turned away.

      This is such a great story, I always love to hear about how others use propagation to landscape their gardens. It's really such a satisfying practice, and glad to hear that your nursery is very encouraging of it.

      @debbieurias5151, never had much luck propagating trees. Used to be a custodian at a school and there was a gentleman that would come by once a year after hours and would take a branch off of each one of our maple landscape trees for this purpose. He would grow them and eventually resell them. I could never get the same branch to propagate... I'm killer at soft stems, but Woody structures I have trouble propagating. Maybe you could provide a bit of assistance? A tip or two?

    Nice! Thanks for the tips! A couple more easy one's are prickly pear and plumeria.

    You’ve got a great eye. Your succulent gardens are gorgeous. Mine always look like a awkward work party. Love your videos. Very soothing too. Keep up the great work.

    Wow, this is amazing. Some of the things I knew like you're own plants, but the other ones were fantastic. I will definitely be starting this and starting with my husband who is always looking to buy more plants n his tastes leans towards the expensive. He does the indoor plants n I take care of our vegetables, fruit n herb balcony garden.

    Very interesting and informative channel and the host is a natural speaker. It's important to note the you are in Santa Barbara, CA with options to grow plants outdoors all year long. The northeast US watchers of the channel grow things called "house plants" that need to be kept inside to thrive for much of the year.

    Hi, I just recently found you and love watching your videos. We could be sisters from another mister because we think just alike when it comes to finding free plants.
    My question is how to propagate a giant split leaf philodendrun. The plant was in our yard when we moved here 30 yrs ago and is quite overgrown. I have a friend who would like to start a plant from it but I don't see nodes and I'm thinking one of the plants would have to be dug up, which I'm fine with as it needs to be cut back. I would appreciate any suggestions you have.
    Thanks,
    June

      Hmmm... Good question, I've also got giant split-leaf philodendrons in my yard, and I have tried propagating them - but unsuccessfully, I believe if you cut the top including the woody stem with some of those aerial roots, let it fully callus then hopefully it could be replanted that way. Hopefully. I was not successful when I tried it, but I didn't have aerial roots, so maybe that's why it didn't work? Or, if it has other branching pups coming out, that could be dug up? Sorry for such a late reply to your question and not sure I've been much help. Best of luck with it, I'd love to hear if it worked.

    Succulents are the very easiest to propagate.
    You can propagate most others using cuttings and rooting hormone.

      I find plants like philodendron are the easiest to propagate.. Just My experience

    Hate to contradict but I bought 20 string of turtles on eBay and they all grew new plants. 👍

    • @FreePlantsForever
      @FreePlantsForever  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure how that is a contradiction! I have String of Turtles here saying they're easy to grow. They just need a node - meaning a stem - not just a leaf.

    Scindapsus are crazy... 😢 Mine was growing well. Then I try to cut it and propagate. Well it's just not taking root and the leaves are small. I used tap waters and place it in a sunny area..idk..I gave up. I put them in soil they're still living but not doing much

    • @JupiterJamie
      @JupiterJamie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have found that for my scindapsus varieties the best way to propagate them is in sphagnum moss. I use moss in ziploc bags and hang them on the side of my refrigerator with magnets.

      Often cuttings do not like so much sunlight. Well the roots do not. Often it's best to use a dark colored or completely opaque dish or glass or pot for putting your cuttings in.

    Are succulents pet safe

    • @FreePlantsForever
      @FreePlantsForever  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many are! Most succulents that have a rosette shape, like Aeonium, Echeveria, Haworthia, Graptoveria & Sedum are pet-friendly. You should avoid Jade plant though. I'm actually just about to publish a video all about pet-safe plants.

    Never heard those called Traviscamcha I assume that is the scientific name? I always just called em wondering Jews. Never knew their n scientific name...
    I have a lot of purple hearts I've gotten from stems that have gotten snapped off. Somebody ran up against them and broke it, a child broken on accident, whatever
