Really encouraging to buy certain plants that you love; propagate and transplant or gift. I did a whole bunch of citronella (mosquito plant)cuttings a few years ago and gave as gifts. The other benefits I noticed was it makes the stems stronger and the plant bushes out. It also keeps it from getting leggy. It is considered a annual In my climate so I found they overwinter in my garage on the side of my window where it isn’t getting direct sunlight. I watered every 3 weeks to keep moist and take them out in the spring once overnight temps are in the 40’s I do this with all my annuals: geraniums, cannas, mountain euphorbias. They look a bit rough because they are basically hibernating, just clean them up as you would in your flowerbeds by using the 3 D’s method ( Damaged, Diseased, Dead) .
Nursery owner here. The reality is that most people buying plants are either landscapers who need many plants immediately, or people just casually find some stuff they find cool. If you need a few of a plant and can wait, definitely go with propogating.
I've watched several videos on propagating plants and I have to say, I got it watching your video. I now know that I don't have to break the bank anymore buying costly plants. Thank you.
An excellent, educational and efficient video without the redundant comments, but with all the ‘critical details’ to show us how to be successful as we propagate! Thank you, thank you!
Dude you just crack me up! I just watched the evergreen video where you were doing cartwheels! Your excitement & energy while still sharing very helpful information is wonderful & appreciated! You make me laugh! And learn! Thank you thank you!
I didn’t realize he was the owner! I wondered how noone in the garden-center questioned what the heck he was doing 😂Great, informative & enthusiastic video.TY👍🏻
Yes, " Propagating " also my way to. In a future (not far) most flower on my garden will be claiming Red Rose, Knockdown petite Rose & Knockdown Red Rose even zone 7, clay soil👍👍 Thank you .
Oh my goodness, this is so awesome!!!! Thank you for all this great information. Great video. Im going to cut me some cuttings, and start rooting me so PLANTS❤❤❤❤❤❤
great video. one tip I have-I use old vitamin bottles to put my cuttings in when I use water. I do this with tomatoes, but I didn't realize you could do it with many plants.
New subscriber! Thank you for respecting your viewers time and just getting right to the point, no music opening time waster! I just found your channel and am learning so much!
Thanks Justin. Great video and informative content. Just retired last year from Baltimore and living in Kentucky. I want to grow plants from my plants and now I am more inspired to do so. Cheers! Until next time....
I have propagated many potho's using only 1 leaf and 1 node. Leaving just about an 1/8-1/4" stem on either side of the node. Put in water (changing water every couple of days) plant when roots are about 2-3". Works great!
Aloha from Hawaii. Love your energetic videos. I retired a few months ago and have combed TH-cam for inspiration. You are one of those people. This video has inspired me to try to propagate the few plants in my yard. I’m in zone 12b and my part of the island is the drier side and we are experiencing drought. I wish I could get some of the plants you mentioned in your other videos but finding a grower who can ship here is not easy. Home Depot and Lowes are our biggest suppliers. Take care and keep making your wonderful videos.
You inspired us to propagate an azalea from my husband’s Mom’s house (she passed away last year)! His Mom is who he got his green thumb from 💜. Thank you for the info and inspiration!
I'm preparing to make a memorial garden for my grandmother who raised me, she has passed away at the age of 93. She loved growing flowers a veggies. I want to get flowers from her yard to put in the memorial garden. This has changed my game big time.
Ok guys I did this and now have three free tomato plants : Tomato plants have one main stalk and at the very bottom when usually two more grow as close to the main stalk as possible pop the other ones off and put the end of the stem in water. A week later itll have roots. Let the stem get several roots and plant after the heat for the day has cooled (after 5/6pm) plant them in pots in a partially shaded area to let them get acclimated to the heat and slowly move them in the sun.
Thank you for the helpful tips on propagating! I was wonder why half of my attempts were failing. That part about watering the foliage as well as the soil was the part I was missing the most. Trying verbena, lantana, and Mexican ferns.
In winter or early spring- you can cut some roses branches- put in the pot or wet soil in back yard - will grow- very easy . Don’t need to go buy new roses plants. Water often .
I am so happy I found your video. I game so new to gardening and I fully committed to learning as much as I can. Loved how concise your video was. I have propagated one plant and it worked well, however, I was not able to do it on a tree. Can you show how to propagate trees? Maybe I am totally wrong trying to do it this way. Please, help this newbie.
doesnt really matter, you wont be keeping them outside in the cold and usually in a terrarium or greenhouse so you can do it anytime. During thier growth seasons will obviously be more successful
thanks for sharing, really appreciate the close up and detail information. I subscribed a while ago and I even featured you as one of my favorite gardeners😊
You should have classes to educate people how to love plants, I appreciate your voice ! so wonderful how you explain everything!you! make it so interesting ,you've got me ! I subscribed!!!!
Thanks for this video. It gives me encouragement that I CAN grow and propagate plants!! Hopefully my black thumb will change into a green thumb this year!! So glad I found your videos!
This is one of the countless skills that any nation that wishes to enjoy a safe, producrive place in the world needs it's people to have. Nobody can know it all but bad things happen to nations and the collective local knowlege of the people and their natural resillience is that one cutting or cold stratified seed that can reestablish it's soul.
OMG! THANK YOU! You told us one thing in this video that I have LITERALLY NEVER heard mentioned in the hundreds (literally) of propagation videos I have watched. Lightbulb moment for me was when you said that you have to maintain the moisture in the leaves because there are no roots to draw up the moisture. I had always assumed that the water transpired through the stem…couldn’t understand why “misting” was a thing… Goes to show that sometimes the mistake you are making is in the fundamentals!
Out of all the videos that I’ve watched about propagation, no one has ever told me that they have to get moisture from the leaves. Thank you very much and God bless you.
I don't have a green thumb, but I started a fall planting in my front yard. I started following you last week. You are funny and informative. I enjoyed your tutorial on propagating. U made me feel like I can do it. I live in Winston Salem and I'm coming to sk greenhouse next week. But I need to make sure you have this particular shrub I saw on your vlog. I haven't found it here. So I'm coming. See you soon😊
After they rooted and potted up. At what point can they be planted in the ground say lavender as an example. I wish to plant a lot of sage, lavender, and other similar plants for bee fodder. Thank you.
5:40 One mistake he made is that he is exposing the rooting powder to his fingers, as well as the plant. He mentions this, bur just want to bring this point home. This is a hormone, please wear proper PPE when handling chemicals. Cheers
What plant are you going to try propagating?? 😊
Lantana & maybe boxwood & coleus in water
I have jasmine, gardenia, and bougainvillea.
Boxwood, Veronica
Hydrangeas, coleus maybe Veronica
I’m gonna try my hand at cuttings today, starting with Hosta and Buddleia.
It's refreshing to see a seller encourage people to propagate plants instead of buying more from him.
Refreshing 😂
Nah, peoples are lazy nowadays.
How is that refreshing💀💀💀

Great job in explaining what to do. Best I have seen on the internet!!

I just spent 250 in annuals. And I want more. Def going to be doing this. Thanks so much!!!! So easy to follow
No running with scissors! Lol...😉 Thanks for all you do, you do a great job!

We’ve been having fun propagating some plants this summer. We have some flowering almonds that did well.

Does it matter what season you propagate your plants? Can I propagate my lavender in late summer/ early fall?
Anytime from late spring to early fall is usually okay. Summertime is the best. June.
doesnt really matter, you wont be keeping them outside in the cold and usually in a terrarium or greenhouse so you can do it anytime. During thier growth seasons will obviously be more successful
So detailed. Thank you!

I have learned a lot, Thank you.

This video is super informative.!!! No wasted time on non essential information...
Lotsa sources say to cut or pinch the apical meristem as well so it doesn't make flowers or new growth instead of being forced to root.
Thank you for some great content with some very helpful information for a beginner gardener...... I can't wait to have the most beautiful garden❤
Well explained! You've showed that it is actually quite simple. Thank you so much.
the running shots are so cute.. great video. Thank you
Never mind, you answered my question as I continued watching your video. Thank you !
Well done!!!
👏👏👏
Thanks for this very informative video. Love your channel you get straight to the point.

Oh my gosh this was awesome! Thank you!
This video is Very, Very timely for me!!!When dividing plants, do you need to water and/or fertilize before cutting root balls?
Oh great! Thank you for letting me know. I would definitely water before beforehand but wouldn't worry about fertilizing.
@@skgreenhouse 🌻🌻🌻Thanks Justin!! 🌻🌻🌻Love your informative videos💞 Plus I love the humor and energy! I share your videos with my friends.
