@ToeJ man don't be all gatekeepery about it, if they like the snare work it doesn't mean that there aren't more skilled drummers or complex parts. Why would you even watch the video and comment just to dog someone else's tastes, surely you can find better uses for your time.
@ToeJ even if you're not into Protomartyr's music, there's no denying that Alex Leonard is an incredible drummer. Listen to tracks like 'Cowards Starve', 'The Chuckler', 'Up The Tower', 'Windsor Hum' , 'A Private Understanding'.... it carries their performance. less is more. cheers
I miss quoted you slightly above...all my sincere apologies for that. I have been laughing about your comment for the last 11 months at least weekly if not more often. It's brilliant!
Since it isn't already listed in the video, the people performing are: Joe Casey - Vocals Greg Ahee - Guitar Scott Davidson - Bass Alex Leonard - Drums
Lol me tooo. I first listened to Processed by the Boys. Then this exact video. Was pretty convinced I had to learn more of their work. I like em a lot.
this was recommended to me by acclaimed janitor R.R. Argier of two different Coronado Highs. Not only does he janit but he graduated there too. why does it shake? THE BODY THE BODY THE BODY HELL YES
I wondered why this was recommended to me between all those Matthew Perry videos you get these days. Now I get it. The algorithm must’ve thought this was him.
If it's about looks, there are of Pop stars waiting for you. The technical performances here are astounding. Musicians will get this. That's all that counts.
Just starting to get into protomartyr as I was told they have been inspired by the mighty fall, so after hearing a good few tracks I can definitely hear similarities but that what music is all about, inspiring people and Mark e Smith certainly does that for me on a daily basis, so back to protomartyr, really enjoying what I'm hearing, could be a start of a fine journey and if they do kinda sound like the fall then imo there's nothing wrong with sounding like the greatest group ever, just my opinion I know, but I'm right though 🤔
The bleakness of Protomartyr's music and lyrics juxtaposed with the twee (and iconic, of course) clutter of the Tiny Desk background is pretty funny to me
I love 'The Agent Intellect', but something is a bit lost in this performance. Maybe these guys need the full onslaught of sound, rather than this paired back semi-acoustic set? Great music, regardless.
I actually prefer this over their albums, I was drawn to these guys on this set before I knew of their album, I was drawn by his rusky, dry voice and the nonchalant appearance and just a want to sing good music - their other work just confused it and it feels like there's just too much sound going on to focus on his voice.
I would like to thank Protomartyr for their band
me too.
And I thank you for saying that.
The drumming on Devil In His Youth with just the snare is incredible. Making a lot of sound with minimal equipment.
yes

Snare goes BRRRR
Periodt
I remember reading somewhere that Protomartyr look like a college band fronted by their 40 year old uncle and by God it couldn't be more accurate
ever wondered what your English teacher does on the weekends wonder no more
fuck i wish this guy was my english teacher
I miss quoted you slightly above...all my sincere apologies for that. I have been laughing about your comment for the last 11 months at least weekly if not more often. It's brilliant!
English teacher (and bass player) checking in...
Singer is literally my math teacher I’m not even joking
He showed us this in class
I think its funny people are calling them hipsters and such when they just look like average dudes playing really good tunes.
There average appearance is part of their appeal. Casey looks like he walked straight out of a cubicle office.
Ralph Lindsen just like Joy Division
What is a hipster these days but anyone that isn't you? Lol
Rawker101 that’s one of the defining traits of being a hipster tho
It's probably Joe's sunglasses lol
This is punk rock. This is beauty. Tis is the best music ever
Since it isn't already listed in the video, the people performing are:

their new album is incredible go support it!
This is beyond good. It's actually breathtaking. Love this band so much
Really dig this version of "The Devil in His Youth." Drummer kills it, and vocals really shine thru
Just got into Protomartyr and have binge listened to the last and the recent new album, this just confirms that they are my new favourite band!!
Lol me tooo. I first listened to Processed by the Boys. Then this exact video. Was pretty convinced I had to learn more of their work. I like em a lot.
their new album is awesome
What's not to like? There is Pixies, there is Joy Division - love the drums, bass, guitar and singing - never gonna lose it!
I would would say it's a The Fall based cocktail.
Yep one of the best packages of the last two decades. I also add a fav The Wedding Present as far as what you "hear"
this pixies connection. 7 years later a Deal sister (Kelly) is playing with them.
The blues brothers look different than I remember
Joe Casey = Bill Murray + Mark E Smith
I really like this comment, I like it a lot
I wanted to thumbs up but...69. It's there in spirit bro
haha.
I don't have words to describe how i love "why does it shake?". Brilliant song!
this was recommended to me by acclaimed janitor R.R. Argier of two different Coronado Highs. Not only does he janit but he graduated there too.
why does it shake?
THE BODY THE BODY THE BODY HELL YES
Love Protomartyr since his first release, from Mexico City
Amazed by these snare drum skills :-)
聴けば聴くほど中毒になって繰り返し聴いてる😂
I wondered why this was recommended to me between all those Matthew Perry videos you get these days. Now I get it. The algorithm must’ve thought this was him.
this is an odd venue for them. seriously the best band i've ever had the pleasure of seeing.
I just woke up from 6 months of sensory deprivation and the first song that clicked, happen to be a Protomartyr song.
Just saw these guys live and it was one of my favorite concerts in a long time. If these dudes roll through your town def go see them live!
LOVE these guys. Can't wait to see them play on Detroit's Princess (a boat!) this weekend!
Love these guys even scaled back, the singer carry them through it :)
Thanks to TJ from Cloud Nothings for recommending these guys!
Fucking love this band.
Well done, Chandler Bing :)
This band fills my soul with happiness 🥰
Some songs make me cry but yeah, what you said.
@@carltonbreezy Pontiac 87?
Nice to see them playing "Three Swallows" again. Come back to Seattle/Olympia.
If it's about looks, there are of Pop stars waiting for you.

joe casey looking punk as hell
Nothing punk about this band. Trust me

That drum rhythm tho👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
So sick!

If Nick Cave Sang for the Pixies.
One of the most underrated bands
Randy Newman meets The Cure
The pointless act of drawing comparisons to existing artists meets the of oversimplification and quantisation of art
more of a baxter dury meets sleaford mods vibe for me
@@urmumsbapswow u r so smart
2:16 is everything
Bassline in why does it shake is sick
amazing drumming, amazing
Nice vocals
The day this came out, I fell in love...
reminds me of the pixies a bit? or am I way off. I first thought it was a bit frank black ish. fun band
Mind blown! If it's 'more thoughtful than thrilling' then he must be singing George Orwell
Big Mitch Hedberg vibes with the eyes closed even with the shades
I like this music.
viiiiiibrations....
good to see these guys gettin some NPR love. they rule. I wonder if hes in standard tuning with that capo?
+John Hutchinson hard to tell, but he might not be because I can't figure out wtf he's doing haha
Dad?
Recently saw them in Toronto, never listened to their tunes and they absolutely killed it!
Definitely not enough room for those guys...
I love them
One of the very few newer bands that made it into my all time faves (mostly 90s music)
Love this band. The Devil in his youth sounds amazing here.
See kids, this is why you practice your rudiments.
thank you
The Lyrics!
Only hipsters call these guys hipsters. There, fixed the problem with the posers.
Best snare ever.
Best band in America said Iggy Pop and I concur
When did he say that?
ive tought that only drake played the guitar. why they didnt show josh playing?
Underrated comment
Sounds and looks like Tim Heidecker doing a Fall tribute...still quite good.
i mean that would be incredible if it were real
this kicks ass!
the devil in his youth best song to ever exist
More like why does it slap
2:10 I love how the drummer is so deliberate with his timing while everybody else is playing pure noise.
April Blades bassist is pretty deliberate with his timing too
They are all tuned to their liking and it's the way the songs supposed to sound
this is some good shit
thin black francis dressed as a blues brother
Absolute magic
hell yeah
Lead singer reminds me of a guy that sang Brotherman Bill
Love this
Never understood why of all videos NPR tiny Desk Concerts never have subtitles... amazing performance though!
NEVER GONNA LOSE IT
cooler sound, kannte ich noch nicht !!
hell yeah I fux with this guy!!! #dope
wow there is still legit "punk rock" still being made...nice!!!!
check out idles...and pissed jeans..and parquet courts...and iceage...there is lots!
@@andrewbrabandt4975 idles are so goddamn good.
Punk rock? These are very good musicians
this is post punk

+Marc Backman That's what I'm thinking. Big electric sounds don't seem to transfer over very well.
+Marc Backman Sure, but for the scale of the room, their levels are so incredibly perfect.
+Marc Backman I think it's the lack of kick drum.
+Marc Backman it's pretty odd without the noise. their set full on is very intense
I actually prefer this over their albums, I was drawn to these guys on this set before I knew of their album, I was drawn by his rusky, dry voice and the nonchalant appearance and just a want to sing good music - their other work just confused it and it feels like there's just too much sound going on to focus on his voice.
I don't normally listen to NPR but this is cool

I'm bumping this very hard Very loud quiet The cops are outside I have to keep it down I'm extremely loud I love you All.Iron bee
At 1:12 I thought he was gonna keel over... LOL 😂
Tremendous
they all look like they would call me a slur at gamestop but their music is great so its ok
OH MY LORD
Where Are They Now?
‘The Literal Fax Machine That Fired Kim Deal’
It's not a Protomartyr show without someone shouting PLAY BASEBALL BAT in between songs.
1:39 "😏😏"
Drummer is Dope
i just think they’re neat
Só vim assistir por causa do clipe do Galerito x Gil da Esfirra!!
What Peter Venkman does on weekends when he is not ghost busting
Can anyone tell what specific chords the guitar player is playing on Devil In His Youth?
Me gustan!!!
Ah there you are, Shane McGowan!
Devil in his youth... you can tell he is over it.
SWINNG W PURPOSE!LOTS FuRy1!
Harry Crane on guitar, fat Blake Anderson on bass, drunk Tim Heidecker on vocals.
