He did the encore because the people, -who he is singing for, really- are the ones who wanted to experience again the utter brilliance of that song, and the way he sang it. Performers could not exist without the people to watch them, remember that. Every time I hear this song, I feel lifted to another place in my mind and heart, so in person, it must have been explosive and the people could not let it go. Do not make this trivial, it means something to people, enjoy it, because it is so special.
Completamente vero. Best singer in the world. I like Puccini too and i recommande you to listen Offenbach (les contes d'Hoffman), George Bizet (Les pecheurs de perles, with Gilles Dubois). Ciao
I think this performance is an excellent answer to his critics who say he could not act, that his voice was past it by the late 80s, and that he ought not to have tackled heavy roles. I think this was beautiful, and obviously so did the audience there.
Look at the joy on this man's face! They won't let him go... God, how they love him! NEVER a more loved Tenor. He is the most amazing voice of a lifetime. There will NEVER be another one for me.
Seriously, I watched this video for at least 50 times with goosebumbs and tears in my eyes. I am addicted to his powerful, emotional voice. Mille grazie, Luciano!
One of the great tenors in the whole world - Maestro LUCIANO PAVAROTTI ! RIP MAESTRO . This is one of the best renditions of E lucevan le stelle from Tosca by Puccini. I want to thank to ILoveTobin for this post!!! This is great, great art, great video for us. Bravo Luciano, for us , you will be always in our minds,in our hearts! We will not forget you and your lovely voice . Good posting!!! Great audience there, great public!!! Bravo for the BIS!!!
Just amazing, Pavarotti eeks the last ounce of emotion with that trademark tone and ringing top register. Many wonderful tenors will abbreviate some of the notes ans still move you, but the Maestro has the lungs of a giant and such heart. Unique.
Simplemente me encanta ésta interpretación de Luciano... de las casi 100 veces que lo he visto, no me canso de seguirlo escuchando una y otra vez... que maestría...
Thanks for a great production ultimate collection of the best of classical OPERA- most tenor delight by PAVAROTTI, MISS MY FRIEND God BLESS HIS SOUL WORTHY OF HIS GLORIOUS PARADISE…..
You say that because you probably don't know the italian culture ! That's the way it goes, if people enjoy things they express it and it's the beauty of those moments !!! Each concert becomes unique ! We are not in an american professional musical where you'll be able to see the exactly same show four times a day ( emotion against perfection ) ... Grande Luciano, Grande Italia ...
WONDERFUL. There can be only one... and Pavarotti was That One. Our 20th Century Caruso, Gigli et al - and all combined in one man. He will be forever missed.
BRUTAL....and twice! .....the encore was even more heart wrenching....and then we die. BEAUTIFUL UNFORGETTABLE PERFORMANCE NOBODY CAN DO IT. ONLY YOU Where's the Kleenex at?
You bring up a good point-that the audience desperately senses the inevitable, that this may be the last time they'll see their beloved tenor sing at the top of his game. For me, I would prefer the encore to take place after the show, but I understand that's just not how it's done in opera, only every other music form.
Just the fact that he would do it again, at 55, at the end of a long opera, and such an aria as this, says alot about the man as well as the singer. Manys the tenor would not have bothered, or risked it.
When I watch this, I cry. When I listen to this I forget to breathe. I remember what Dame Joan Sutherland said. "Don't forget to breathe!" Never a true word spoken.
@@zmznzbzvzmznzb And when he came in as a young inexperienced tenor, he stood behind Dame Joan Sutherland as she sat on a bench, and when he began to sing, she forgot a couple of her prompts and missed some parts. Her husband said, Joan thats not like you to ever make that mistake. She said, oh mon dio, his voice his voice!!!!!
Il rimpianto della mia vita, è esser nato troppo tardi, e non poter più ascoltare dal vivo quella voce celestiale... spero solo di poterlo sognare un giorno...
First time i heard maestro singing this aria I was frezzed , couldn't explain my emotions, iI could make mess i room break things or sing loudly , only a maestro could do this :D
Piango ma sento allegria. I sit quietly in reverence listening to this voice, this interpretation and feel that we are so blessed to have witnessed the genius and power of Pavarotti. A voice like this, a power of interpretation like his, live forever.
Офигительное исполнение! Я много переслушала вариантов этой арии, но Лучиано никто не перепел. Слёзы льются от переполняющих сердце чувств, музыка гениальна! Обсолютно заслуженные, несмолкаемые овации.
I saw this on an arts channel, and I'd have to say this is my favorite performance of "E lucevan le stelle." The audience gave Pavarotti a three-minute standing ovation! Miss you, Maestro!
I wish a video existed of the time he got 165 curtain calls, and the audience applauded for well over an hour, how could you clap that long, you could if it was Pavarotti, and I never got to see him live, never even knew he existed. I cant imagine seeing him in person, I think I would implode, evaporate, etc.
Watch 5:33 ff., this is how we artists celebrate the long applause! Close your eyes, hear it, feel it, suck it inside, keep it, that is what leads us on the stage!
I keep returning to this video ,please never ever remove it. Must find a way to get this video out to everyone. Good things are worth repeating over and over....
from Jose' "Timo" Sepulveda.......I am devoted to Placido Domingo and consider him to be the greatest tenor of his generation.......BUT DEAR GOD, LUCIANO WAS OTHER WORLDLY!!!! That mighty voice will outlive Caruso's....unbelievable. Puccini stands head and shoulders above all other operatic composers.
Placido Domingo knew he was no match for Pavarotti. He is not the greatest, you can talk about anything to compare, but no one compares with Pavarotti, more tears cried for his performances than any other will equal, no. matter how long they sing.
@raphael44ify As Bono oft said "Others sing opera, Pavarotti WAS opera!" That is why he "owned" most of the roles he performed--he WAS the character. He didn't just sing or act the role, each character WAS a part of either his own personality or a part of his life. Therefore, he wasn't just "acting out" a part but reliving the part of himself the character represented.-----gee I miss him so!
Pavarotti was and is my inspiration, But there will be others. Not like Pavarotti, cause we already had one. But there will be others that will be legends too! I hope so ,for the opera profession we need them for are art to survive the MTV culture! I like MTV , but are art requires audience particpation and focus.. and well its hard to get the 17-30 yr olds to focus for 2 hours!! We will need voices like Prices and Pavarotti's to continue this art. And we will have them. God bless you Maestro !!

Italy , say what you will but it is unarguably an amazing culture of arts and lifestyle
This is absolutely marvelous! Since his passing, the world seems to have a huge, silent void. I miss him.
C'est plutôt une communion entre un public connaisseur et un génie de la scène. Avec un plaisir réciproque évident. L'opéra doit être vivant.
