    Instead of using RTTY mode, try using the SWR function. It will put a tone out no matter the mode setting. Just hold the microphone down, listen for the relays on the TI and verify the SWR reading on the scale. You can keep pushing the microphone repeatedly and verify the tune down the freq range.

    The T-1 is a wonderful piece of equipment, May I suggest that you get the Elecraft BL-2 1:1 & 4:1 switchable balun and try that in place of the BNC/Banana plug ?

    When you were initially checking for SWR - except 160 - you didn't say if you switched tuner into Bypass mode first. So other than 160, we can't see what the SWR was without the tuner in line. On the bottom of the tuner it states the range as "HF - 6m". It is hard to work stations on QRP if the other station is less than about S5-S7 (on SSB anyways). I have a T1 and really like it. K9RJ

    You can 'put a signal out' in CW and AM. Incidentally, you can set your speaker-mike up a a keyer. Problem solved.
    You didn't mention (Initially) what kind of antenna? Doublet? Zepp? G5RV? zs6bkw ?
    Is your ladder line near anything metallic, on the ground or near something conductive as this will de-tune it.
    According to the T1A manual:-
    Using a balun: A balun can do as many as three things at once: (1) improve the match to very high impedance antennas; (2) allow the T1 to be used with antennas that have balanced feedlines; (3) help
    isolate the antenna from the rig and ATU to reduce RF pickup. A low-loss, broad-band, 4:1 balun such as
    the Elecraft BL1 is a good choice (it's also quite small-just 1.5 x 3")

    • @forgetyourlife
      @forgetyourlife 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Says doublet in the description.

      @@temporarilyoffline You mean the ELECRAFT BL1-1 WIDEBAND 1:1 BALUN? Well, first, you need to get your windowline/ladderline off the ground and into the air. Then you can attach your 1:1 or 4:1 balun and a short length of coax to your tuner.

    I wouldn’t use that tuner with a balanced feed line to radiators. That T1 tuner is made for unbalanced feed line (coax). You could be getting an incorrect SWR reading. I would use a ZM-2 Manual ATU if I were using ladder line.

  • @m0bob
    @m0bob 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Wouldn't you be better off using a 4:1 balun before the ATU?

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That depends on the impedance at the tuner, but the answer is usually yes. If my impedance was 300ohms, the 4:1 would drop that to 75 and the tuner would handle it better.

  • @arnoldgrubbs2005
    @arnoldgrubbs2005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The label on the tuner says HF up to 6M... so you are trying VHF and UHF. I would not be shocked if it messed up the SWR detection or some other part of the tuner.. So, I would be very cautious about operating it on bands its not made to work on.. just saying.. maybe it will last, but I don't think there would be any repair under the warranty if it didn't.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree. As an experimenter I like to push things to the limit and play with them in ways they were never intended and see what happens. If that happens to be breaking, then I like to dig in and make the repairs. In this case, none of these devices have a warranty.
