  • Does your doctor demonize fat in your diet? Will eating fat kill you? Can you eat fat to lose fat? Does eating fat suppress appetite? Can fat reduce your perpetual hunger? Oh yes it can, but why does it work? How does it work? Is it healthy? Is it safe? Are the results long-term? Be smarter than your doctor about the essential positive role of dietary fat. These are great questions and you deserve an answer so that you can have a more factual discussion the next time your doctor recommends a low fat or plant-based diet. I answer some of these questions in this video, and the rest of the questions on my other videos on this channel. You deserve good health, happiness and great energy. Use the strategies described here to move in the right direction.
    Making the changes needed is not too difficult for a while, sustaining the changes until they become your Way of Life is far more challenging. In this episode we explore the right way to prepare and eat fat as an essential part of your diet as well as using it to suppress appetite so that you eat less and less often because you are SATIATED. We also provide some of the easy to understand science your doctor may be ignoring. Help them to know the scientific truth about how your body works.

    My 3yr old son's teachers have been complaining he doesn't want to eat at lunch time. I figured the satiety was the reason, but would worry he is not eating. Sometimes he only eats 2 meals a day. Now I fully understand why in hindsight the days when his meals are really super high fats, he just would go with nothing for sometimes up to 6 hours! And imagine he has a congenital heart disease. Praise God for this wisdom. His brain is so sharp for his age! Feed fats first!

    You mentioned mayo a couple times… And typically even if you buy the “olive oil” mayonnaise, it’s made with a teeny bit of olive oil and the rest is seed oil. You can make your own mayo very easily with egg and Avocado or olive oil. Add a little Dijon to spice it up and it’s better than anything you can buy off-the-shelf

      What I have found in my practice is that most people struggling with an addiction / behavioral issue are actually struggling with other things and those things MUST be fixed first. Divorce, bad marriage, bad relationships, bad job, stress, kids, family, even where they live. Sometimes just moving to a warm and sunny climate and then get a new job in a different field was all they needed to rejuvenate life. Other found divorce was exactly what they needed. Obviously it is case by case but never seen anyone actually have an issue with food, food was always the secondary issue to a bigger problem in life. Just food for thought

    • @MarmaladeINFP
      @MarmaladeINFP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I also struggled with addictions my whole life. Severe depression also goes back into my childhood. What I found in my experience is that diet was the only thing that was able to change this. I moved to different places and worked different jobs, even going back to college and then massage school. I also tried exercise, meditation, yoga, chi kung, body treatments, shamanism, psychotherapy, psychiatric mediations, etc. Heck, I even tried a stint in a psychiatric ward.
      Yet nothing, absolutely nothing, helped. That is until I tried diets that were low-carb, high-fat, nutrient-dense, and nose-to-tail. Diet was the main issue, not secondary in the slightest (except in the sense that my diet is part of a larger dysfunctional society, economic system, food system, and dietary institutions). I suspect that I wasn't only addicted to food but also prediabetic and malnourished, but none of the doctors and other healthcare workers ever thought to test me for any of this.

    • @MarmaladeINFP
      @MarmaladeINFP 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrAJ_LatinAmerica - For some reason, my comment is not posting. Maybe it's too long or something. I'll break it down into 2 parts to see if that helps. Part 1:
      I don't know about a mentor exactly. But I have close relationships with family and friends. My three closest friends I've known for more than two decades with one going back to childhood and another being a former girlfriend. I see and/or talk to these people on a regular basis.
      Specifically when I was really trying to turn my depression around, I got into a lot of social activities. I joined an active listening group, an integral group, a UU church, a martial arts club, etc. I also was dating at the time and had two decent romantic relationships.
      My depression probably went back to elementary school, about when my carb addiction began. But I really became troubled in 7th grade. And then became suicidal shortly after high school. The thing is I was never a loner and always had close friends and loving family. My parents were kind and helpful, and I got along with my two brothers.
      That is what bothered me so much when I was younger. Outwardly, my life seemed good with plenty of resources, support, and even privilege; as an upper middle class white male. There was no overt trauma in my younger life. But something was always different with me since childhood and it was hard to explain to others. Besides a learning disability, I didn't have any apparent reason to be depressed.
      That was the most frustrating part. I do sometimes wonder if there might've been heavy metal exposure or other toxicity in my early childhood that altered neurocognitive development and such. Still, I can't help noting that I ate a lot of sugar as a kid. Also, the low-fat craze kicked in when I was a young adult and my mother began buying low-fat food. What fat I was getting probably was mostly seed oils.

    • @MarmaladeINFP
      @MarmaladeINFP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Part 2:
      My parents didn't understand what was going on with me. They couldn't fully empathize since neither of them were troubled as kids. Even so, they were always super helpful. For example, both were in teaching professions and constantly were assisting me with my school work. They tried to balance being supportive and being tough. As conservatives, they always made sure there were rules and structure, but they weren't overly punitive either.
      What amuses me is that, when younger, my parents went through a liberal phase. They raised my brothers and I in these hyper-liberal churches (Science of Mind and Unity Church). I was fully enculturated in the self-help and positive-thinking worldview. I was always looking for answers to my problems or simply trying to figure out what exactly was my problem. I got so tired of it that for an entire year I stopped reading altogether, in the hope of it helping to get me out of my head and to stop the brooding.
      Of the endless things I tried, some lessened the depression slightly. Running, for example, was one of the things that reliably was able to put me in a more grounded state. But nothing made the depression go away. It felt like a constant struggle to hold it at bay. Then, after decades of this, I gave up on trying to change my depression and so I accepted it as my fate.
      For reasons of losing weight and general health, I decided to try low-carb diets, from paleo to keto to carnivore. My depression finally disappearing was an entirely unexpected side effect. It took me a few months to realize it really had gone away permanently. That was the only change that happened. Just diet. Looking back on the prior decades, it became clear how much I had previously used carbs (and caffeine) as self-medication.

    I eat red meat, chicken, liver, eggs, fish, pecans, grass fed butter, cold pressed coconut oil, cheese, heavy cream and very rarely eat vegetables. I do put coconut oil and butter in my coffee but did so because I was at my ideal weight and was easily going below that weight so had to add the oils in my coffee to stop weight loss. I now eat at least twice a day or I will fall below my ideal weight and start cramping. I've been mostly carnivore for 2 years and keto for 3 1/2. I'm very strict and do not crave sugar or carbs at all. Life is good as long as I eat enough to be healthy and it is easy to know when I don't eat enough. My problem is my brain tells my body I'm full way too soon so I force down few more bites.

      @@dubravkazirojevic47 There are different kinds of fasts. Water fasting, dry fasting, liquids only, etc. You would have to see how these different things affect your own body to know if they stop your fast. Very small amounts of fat based food doesn’t usually stop ketosis, which is the point of being on a fast. Also, these fats are satiating, so they help you go longer without a meal

    I relapsed this weekend. I hated the way I felt, and so I had a NY strip steak for supper. I had onions,mushrooms, and radishes fried up in butter alongside. I'm still feeling full. Comfortably, contentedly full, not stuffed, not uncomfortable. I don't feel the need for any dessert or anything sweet like I used to. I do t think I'll relapse again, because I like feeling well.

    Sometimes when I am hungry but I dont want to eat just yet I will have a tablespoon of peanut butter or mixed nut and seed butter. The best way to describe it is that hunger feels like a burn in the belly, and the butter puts out that fire and allows you to wait for that next meal. Its really quite remarkable once you pay attention to it.

  • @theeventhorizon-valebridge9512
    @theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Just a couple of CRITICAL corrections Dr Cywes 1. If you heat/fry olive oil it breaks its bonds very readily at a relatively low temperature and turns into a trans-fat which cannot then be metabolised. 2. Bacon should not be eaten at all as it is full of nitrites, added as part of the process of producing bacon, which is proven to be a carcinogenic chemical compound.
    On a slightly less critical observation, although carbohydrates are generally unwelcome additions to the diet, we have to metabolically know why and remember that they can be, at low levels, tolerated well and burned as fuel by the body, especially when eaten last in a meal and eaten infrequently. After all, 99% of the reason not to eat carbohydrates is to keep insulin sensitivity strong and not slip into insulin resistance; which in turn then causes all the modern diseases as a consequence. So, let's keep insulin resistance as the main focus and reason, rather than worrying about having any insulin present in the bloodstream at all and staying permanent in ketosis at all times.

    I get confused with all the videos I watch on this subject as there is so much info to absorb. My personal journey so far is that tomorrow is day 63 of my lifestyle change and I have reduced my weight from 105 kg to 90 kg in that time. I was stuck at 93.4 kg for 3 weeks so I fasted with a 48 hr and then a 30 hr. I haven’t found anything as to why my weight was stuck for these weeks. Maybe we all have different journeys but I am very great-full for these presentations and wish anyone making their lifestyle change all the best, stay mentally strong and focus on what is the best for your health. Keep a written record for your journey as one day it may benefit another

      Your weight stuck (plateau) reason as such: our body metabolism pathway is very clever and it lower its metabolism rate when it sense you putting less energy resources (food) to metabolize. Plateau solution is, you go back regular food habits (before your weight loss journey) for 2-3 days and let fool the body metabolism that you giving extra calories. Then on 3rd day, start intermittent fasting 18/6 or OMAD (one meal a day) for few days and continue the journey. Your plateau will break and you will loose weight.

      This happens to me every time I lose weight
      I would always get stuck on about 83 kilos for one whole month and it drove me crazy
      But I knew my body was doing the right thing
      The interesting thing is that during that time, I didn't lose weight but I did lose fat and I knew this was the case because my clothes became looser

    • @ericojonx
      @ericojonx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Be careful not to lose weight too fast,
      a pound a week should be safe. Avoid getting into starvation, where you lose muscle instead of fat. As you lose fat, poisons stored in the fat are released, another reason to go slow. Also need to give skin time to shrink.
      It took time to get overweight, so take a reasonable amount of time to reduce. The body also has to heal.
      It is a lifetime process.

    I use butter and egg yolks or eggs in my salty meat broth for a delish drink/meal
    I use cream/butter in salted coffee, sometimes with eggs in it too
    Fat is phenomenal
    High fat is key to satiety, protein is NOT satisfying.
    I eat butter like cheese, I eat chilled beef renderings and every scrap of fat n collagen off meat bones.
    Then I CAN have a few berries and it’s just a FEW berries and I’m elated.
    Then it’s on to next fatty meal, satisfied till then. No cravings.

    Super useful, especially as I have been observing that having some hard cheese seems to alter my hunger. I didn't have the connection that it's the fat, that should be taken as first part of the meal. I've been adding cheese at end of some meals. So time to make a little adjustment and pay attention to sequence. The practical side of how this works within the body is really going to make the next phase of this process easier. And thanks for the commentary on incidental carbs. I've been wondering about how a roux impacts me. My observation is the resulting sauce / cream soup base keeps me comfortably full for a long time. So I may need to view the 2 tablespoons (+/-) of flour as incidental in the context of what it's cooked in. All that butter (and / or meat fond), with added whole milk and sometimes cream or sour cream is giving the satiety.

    I think you have to very careful about mayo because most of it is made with comical highly processed seed oils. I make my own mayo and it's pretty simple once you get the knack of it. I use the refined light olive oil as it is lighter in taste and not to expensive, the mayo made from virgin olive oil has terrible taste and hugely expensive. Three egg yolk mix usually makes about half a pint of mayo. Homemade Mayo tastes so much better and is super healthy. There are plenty of you-tube recipes on how to make Mayo. Once you try homemade you will ditch the commercial mayo for sure
