Dr. Sten Ekberg I really love the concept of Keto and understand the benefits but I’m concerned because I want to be athletic and build muscle and I feel this can only be achieved by consuming a higher ratio of carbs - am I right?

Dr Ekberg, studies have shown that we make ketones when we exercise and that diabetic patients make more than control groups. it has been shown that being in ketosis increases brain function and a Dr during a naval study for diving showed that he can increase his time for holding his breath from 2 minutes to 4 without any training by just being in ketosis.
Ketosis has been shown to increase the oxygen efficiency of the body. If i have correctly understood the body makes a switch to use another source of energy for cell function. If the body in the case of diabetes thinks that it is a good idea to make this switch because the oxygen supply is limited because of toxic overload, would this not explain the insulin resistance or high blood sugar levels because the body no longer uses normal fuel?

This is exactly how I did it just instinctively. Cut the processed foods, focus on whole foods, then… Cut the carbs. Throw in some intermittent fasting… Boom! 100 pounds of weight loss. I love it! Thank you Doctor Ekberg.

I have been doing keto for 3 years now and it is not a diet for me anymore. It became a way of right eating and life. My inflammation has been under control.
I had a blood test a year ago and the doctor was really surprised how I lost about 20 pounds and cholesterol level was superb. She asked me how I did it. But she never heard of keto. How sad.

Ive been on Keto for 7 months and have lost 73 pounds. Having watched the movie, The Magic Pill, the Keto diet really made sense to me. It made cutting carbohydrates, second nature and easy to do. I do cheat here and there, but continue to drop weight like a rock! I feel awesome knowing that I am on my way to a healthy weight and lifestyle. Good luck to others on a similar journey!

Saras Rajoo Like so many, I’m transitioning to carnivore. But while on keto, I found keto baked goods, such as muffins, pizza, bread, etc., sadly wanting. I finally came to forego all that mess, and when I want a muffin, just have the real thing. Every 6 months or so, it won’t kill you.
Snacks were baked cheese crisps with dip, pork rinds, fat bombs, beef sticks, beef jerky, and occasionally low carb Atkins treats.
I wish you well. Good luck!

I encourage anyone to give keto a try , provided you do your research into the effects it can have on some people that already have medical conditions. I started out at 330 lbs. First I cut out sodas , then seeet teas, then breads and pastas, I read labels and only eat minimally to zero processed foods, and by that I mean butter that we cant make yourself, bottles of coconut oil, etc. I feels so much better. Before, I was constantly inflamed and felt like total shit every day , literally every day. After eating this way , I rarely get inflamed at all , my legs arent heavy anymore , I have energy , I have a better mindset about my life, it's even helped me move on about my mom dying of cancer 8 months ago. Its helped me start to dig out of depression and the icing on the cake, I've lost 96 lbs in a about a years time. Now, I've lost a mixture of fat, some muscle and water , but this way of eating is about learning and doing what works for you. My mother brought me into this world and the least I could do to even begin to repay her is to try and live a healthy life and love myself. Please if anyone takes anything I've said to heart, please remember that you're health is worth fighting for.

I only “measure” my carbs. I’m two lbs. from my goal weight: unimaginable! In three months! And so easy and fun! I started eating no-to-20 carbs/day now do from 30-50 a day. Thank you for changing my life. It. This way of eating seems never to get old. Love the food on this plan and big bonus: I can eat my favorite snack - cashew nuts!! They have so much fat I was always afraid of them. Also I love being able to use heavy cream in my coffee. But: I do eat berries every day; not enough to spike insulin and cravings, just a small amount with full fat yogurt and peanut butter, a lovely break-fast or desert. (Notice the dash between break and fast. I intermittent fast by simply not eating when not hungry and pushing the envelope so at the most I end up eating two meals a day). It’s about cutting back but eating rich. When you truly enjoy - not crave, cram or stuff - your food, you are satisfied longer.

@@kellyfitzpatrick7395 Hi Kelly. I'm in my 50s. My feet got to aching so badly that I quit playing golf completely. Went strict keto 21 months ago after a heart attack. Now, my feet do NOT ACHE. Nor do my hands. I now walk 5+ miles several times/week. I suspect what caused the aching was SUGAR - I used to drink lots of McDonald's 'sweet tea' - now I understand that that stuff is poison - loads of fructose. So maybe just stick with it, give it time, and cut out all the carbs/sugars (including all grain, which upon digestion breaks straight down into sugars).

I am eating a reasonable amount of complex carbs, keeping fat at reasonable levels, plenty of veg, no processed food or simple carbs, fasting, exercising, lots of water. A couple of drinks once or twice a week. I am a month in, 2 kilos down, eleven months and 8 kg to go.

Dr ekberg, you inspired me to go keto after having issues with acne, cognition, and sex drive after years of low fat dieting. Now almost 7 weeks into the keto diet, I am at a point where I’m starting to question whether this diet is suitable for me. Im still some experiencing palpitations even tho I’m supplementing with potassium and sodium religiously. They helped but not 100%. I’m also having problems with sleepiness after meals, and strength loss even tho my carbs are very low. My carbs are at 30 grams net, and I have cut out all nuts seeds and dairy. I eat mostly beef, ghee coconut oil and cruciferous veggies. And keep my protein at a very moderate level. (80g/day) What can possibly be wrong. Although I was drawn to keto for the health benefits which I’m experiencing some like clearer skin and better cognition, I never imagined it would come with these side effects. The burning question is: am I not adapting or is this diet just not fit for me?

The part I didn’t hear when I started keto 6 months ago was the difference between carbs and different vegetables. There is a big difference. I was keeping my carbs to 20 carbs and counting everything I ate. Therefore I was not getting a lot of vegetables because I wasn’t learning how to utilize the low carb veggies.
All I read was eating all these replacement Keto deserts and breads and muffins etc. And trying to figure out how they ate those things and kept their carbs down. Eating of vegetables was not mentioned, and when they were, it was said that they were not needed.
I have just recently found the right people to listen to and have started eating cups and cups of good greens and guess what, more food and weight loss to boot. Hopefully in weeks to come my health will be significantly better.
Thanks for your information. I have quite a few videos to catch up on, but thanks for them all.

I am guessing, 1 or 2 avocados, 2 to 4 eggs, possibly fried in coconut oil or some other healthy oil, 2 Litres H2O, especially with lemon, a nice salad without starchy veggies and healthy home made dressing. I don't know what else. Thanks with blessings. Love your videos.

4:35 what you say here somehow contradicts with the idea of prolonged fasting, or not?
in other videos you explain prolonged fasting and how it is good for health, and in some sense you starve in this fasting method but it is also experienced that the body protests for 3 days or so, and after that days the body does not feel hungry anymore
so how does those contradictive statements fit together?, perhaps in the way that prolonged fasting has a time limit whereas ketogenic diet could on principle be done lifelong?

Also need glucose for thyroid and brain function.

Yesterday, I was continuously testing presence of ketones in my urine with the test strips. It always showed me no or only a slight ketosis throughout the day. In late aftrenoon I finished my 48 hours fasting (drinking water only), eating an eggs omelette and later some nuts and blueberries. This morning I drank a glass of water and less than a liter of the green tea. Now, I went to urinate (after approximately 14 hours after my last meal) and tested my ketosis on this occasion. It showed me a dark violet to red color which means a strong ketosis. It's a real mystery.

Whole idea is insulin and insulin resistance, really helps! High fat means lower insulin resistance! When going on keto the right way is to be in ketosis and this means not eating in a food surplus with to much fat, protein, or carbs, but rather in maintance with 70% fat 25% and 5% *ha, ha you said processed fats, "WILL KILL YOU." Though you can eat as much of the natural fats as you'd like. (yessss, like if you agree)

Ketosis is driven by grams, not ratios. A diet with 25g carbs, 125g protein, and 67g fat would be a 1200 calorie 50% fat diet and likely highly ketogenic and appropriate for many people on a diet. That same person may later lose weight and instead eat 25g carbs, 125g protein, 122g fat at 1700 calories and a 65% fat diet and continue to lose body fat more slowly. The lower calorie diet is slightly more ketogenic, as the additional dietary fat consumed later will contribute it's glycerol backbone along the way. In any event, blood ketone readings do not cause weight loss or gain.
Many people with severe metabolic syndrome, long term obesity, or Type 2 Diabetes will discover that they cannot consume unlimited (non-starchy) vegetables and obtain ketosis. Dr. Atkins' research, recently confirmed by Dr, Volek suggests that these people may never be able to achieve nutritional if eating over 35g net carbs a day. Dr. Fung recently noted that he had a patient who could not achieve nutritional ketosis even after two weeks of complete fasting. YMMV.

If whole food supplements are taken outside of any proper meal, do they constitute a meal by themselves and be considered as such (a meal).

Figuring out the new eating style, i experimented few ways and wasn't satisfied. Finally doctor gave the verdict of high cholesterol demanding i either change md or take his prescribed statins. 50 grams of carbs seems like a lot to me now. I think I’m easily under 20, and that’s allowing myself 2 light beers a day. Speaking of beer, I used to hate light beer, total beer snob. My go to every day beer had 11 grams of carbs in a 12 oz can. I finally found a light beer with 3.2 that I actually like. Yingling Light (not a sponsor). I also didn’t do it gradually. One day I just quit eating carbs. I didn’t notice any weird side effects apart from the rapid weigh loss. But a month later after dropping 20lbs, it slowed down. So now I’m watching these videos to learn how to do it better since just cutting carbs isn’t enough
