My girlfriend that is incarcerated here in Oklahoma is always pushing elderly inmates around in wheelchairs to get to Medical or out to the yard to get some fresh air.
I had a psych episode in a hobby lobby a year back almost. Instead of taking me to the hospital, I got taken to jail because I had grabbed some stuff during. I learned my lesson. I was terrified, off my meds, and hallucinating the entire time. They must have thought I was on something. But the ladies there made it feel like one big sleepover, we colored and read books and talked and they’d have me walk around the pod as a regulating activity for my nerves. I’m still friends with a couple gals, they’ve turned their lives around. And I’m proud of them. And they made me promise I wouldn’t be stupid again. Your content helps when my anxiety reminds me of what happened. Thank you
I almost went through something similar. Luckily, I was bonded out, and my psychiatrist testified on my behalf. I had an anxiety attack when a cop approached me at 12 midnight looking at my tires because my car was acting weird. They didn't believe me either. Even with all the evidence showing I was not intoxicated, they still wanted to put me in jail for a year. I ended up doing a week in a halfway house. The entire experience is terrifying, especially when you have psychiatric or any other special medical needs.
Doesnt sound like you were being stupid. Sounds like it couldnt have been helped due to your mental health. That's so upsetting that they just arrested you. We mentally ill people get so stigmatized. 😢
Being in medical in the worst. They never let you up, you just sit in a bed for most of the time, it isn't like gen pop. I fought so hard to get out of medical, i felt for the pregnant and elderly that couldn't go anywhere else
I wish you could physically see how many lives you touch. Ive never been an addict or been to jail but I watch your content religiously. It heals me in other ways❤
I work in long-term care and we have a lot of elderly residents. It breaks my soul to imagine any of them in prison at their age. At a certain point, they should be moved into a care home. People are gonna say we we don't want criminals in care homes but guess what there are some in there anyway because some never got caught and some already completed their sentences. They aren't a danger to the public at that age. They need care and personal support workers and a quiet living space without all the stress and drama of jail/prison.

She’s attacked me many times over the years and has never been caught because she charms the cops when they get called. It really depends on the crime. Like the other comment said them being older absolutely does not mean they can’t be dangerous. I do agree they should be separated but not necessarily just get out of jail
This is harrowing.... I get that the inmates must have done something to land in prison, but to keep someone who is barely alive still in jail? At least they should be out in a proper hospital. And to stay in there all alone except for meals and meds all day, its inhuman. I dont know. I pray to God I never get to be involved in such a situation in any way.
Jail and prison are different. Jail even houses people waiting for their hearings to see if they’re innocent or guilty. Most of the time they turn out to be innocent but already had to stay in jail like a criminal

That’s sad. I’m a nurse and i considered working in a jail infirmary but to see the literal regret of them lying on their deathbed everyday would probably be too heavy.
Wouldn't they allow them to "walk around"? Have visitors, such as other inmates who are friendly with them? I mean, C'mon....people generally become worse ill when left completely alone. Statistics have shown this!
@Patricia-d1k4q Then you might find this story of interest. A few years ago, a fellow inmate of a friend of mine went to Medical because she was feeling dizzy. The staff in Medical barely looked at her and told her to just go back to her room and drink more water. The very next day, this inmate was sitting on the edge of her bed watching TV when she fell to the floor dead. The autopsy came back that she had Covid-19 and blood clots in her system. Every inmate that had been around the inmate that had died had to go to isolation for eight days. The Medical staff member who told her to just drink more water was transferred out to another prison to work.
Oh my god so the elderly just get shoved into a room away from everyone else? That's so sad and lonely. I hope and pray we have some serious changes to our system in the next couple of decades.
When I was in prison there was an old lady she was 69 years old and she was in there for bank robbery because she loaned her son all of her and her husband's retirement money to save his house and his business and she didn't want to tell her husband so she robbed 9 Banks she only got a couple thousand dollars at each bank but she ended up getting 9 years mandatory.
This reminds me of orange is the new black. Such a funny/ sad compelling show. You’d be great in it! If only it was still going. Oh well. I’m sure another prison drama will happen. We need as much exposure of those places as we can. 😊
My husband worked at a medical prison in Stockton Ca for a while. He’s a nurse. It was so sad & just depressing. No one gave a damn about them. He treated everyone like a human being & treated like any other patient. He had to leave because it was just too much. He always told me that I love the patient but can’t stand my coworkers

I’m a therapist. If you had asked me 10 years ago what I thought about people in prison, I would’ve made a comment about them breaking the law, deserving what they got, keeping society safe, etc. Having had several clients who have been in and out of jail for various reasons, I now can see that the US is way too quick to lock people up. And it’s not helpful! Most of the time people are struggling to do the best they can and make mistakes in the process. Locking them away makes it harder to make healthier choices.
Boy that’s crazy. He had this 55-year-old lady who was locked up named Miss Miller, but she used to make us call her mama Miller and Lord knows she was just WICKED!
I saw a video of these elderly Japanese people who have nothing and nowhere to go so they regularly commit petty crimes. At least they get food and a place to sleep.
Not a bad idea when starving on the streets is another option! In my country the pension was designed expecting that people ad their own homes. With more people having no chance of ever buying a house and the pension being less than rent, at least prison is a roof over the head (and it isn't as bad as in the US)
This reminds me of a “scared straight “ like documentary where this guy who was about 30 told these teens that when HE was 19 he beat his girlfriend to death in a drug fueled rage. He got life without the possibility of parole. So he looked the teens in the eye and told them HE is going to DIE in prison for something he did as a teen so not to wind up like him. It was really sad because of course the girl deserves justice but he was barely more than a kid and was on drugs so it is sad he threw HIS life away too. At least he has enough conscience to want to turn others away from his fate.

If you have a mental health problem while you're in jail what happens? I have depression and a history of sh. I feel like if I were to go to jail my mental problems would just get worse and I’d probably start trying to sh again. Can you be taken to a psych ward or something?
Is anyone thinking of Tina Peters watching this? Peters really dug herself into a hole and just kept on digging. The only sympathy that I have is that she apparently has fibromyalgia and that is genuinely painful and she is unlikely to get adequate treatment or considerations for that.
