    The ability codexes were a mistake.
    Needing to spend a pile on gear AND abilities makes it impossible for casuals.
    Anyone on reddit or reddit are not casuals. Its just how it is. We are in echo chambers.
    I have billions of gp in cash laying around, most of the time. if an ability comes out il just buy it.
    But my more casual friends are always saving money for gear or an ability.
    Necro just gives you all those abilities.
    So it will always be the prefered style for most people.

      If they are making ability codex drops at least force the prices down to a reasonable amount. There no need for some of the codex to be over 200mil. That's ridiculous.

    Been playing rs3 on and off for a couple of good years now and as much as i tried to get into somewhat challenging pvm/higher tier boss's 90% of the time it ended with me not wanting to pvm, necromancy brought a breath of fresh air and not being so demanding funding wise and honestly the quest line of necromancy wasn't half bad and actually made you challenge yourself to become stronger

    Please understand that this game is hard to people who cant spend a ton of time on it! Necro had made the game fun for people who aren't able to invest in the game like some others! I understand it stinks for the people who have put in the hours woth their amazing pvm skills. I hope jagex makes it worth while for them again ❤

    Necromancy’s strength in my opinion is having fewer abilities. Ability rotations are insane for other styles. If the game wants to survive combat needs to be logical and simple. The challenge should be in mechanics, not in hitting an exact order of buttons every 1.8s.

      Yes, but it didn't need to be the strongest style in this game. Many people stopped using other styles because why bother? This made me less excited to do combat in general, because why would I grind a boss for loot which is worth a lot less now because people don't use those weapons anymore?

    Necromancy re-invigorated PvM for me and my friend. Aside from certain solo bosses like Telos or TzKal Zuk, I normally do bossing and EDs with my best friend, or I would if he had the gear necessary. I've been playing for years longer than him, so it made bossing not fun for him, which in turn made it not fun for me, when a stray attack would insta-gib him or not having optimally perked T90+ gear made his damage output negligible.
    Then Necromancy comes out, and not only did he beat me to Level 99, but even with just the craftable Necromancy armor, he was able to keep up. Necromancy definitely made PvM and bossing, in particular, far more casual-friendly, which I think is a huge boon to the game, since bossing can be a big hurdle to overcome for some players.

    I love necro and would like to see the other styles reworked in a similar way. This would open up the possibility of style specific bosses.
    Given the current state of the game, (relatively) low player numbers etc, its difficult to see how something that makes the game more playable for casual players is a bad thing.
    If there are fewer and fewer players over time there will be fewer and fewer people to buy the loot the high end hardcore players get. Also the game would continue its slow descent into nothing. It desperately need modernisation (looking at you tick system).

    Necro made me realize just how crunchy the other styles are. I would like to see the other styles modernized. I played through the EoC transition, so I never came into the game completely fresh. For me it was mostly small transitional changes rather than a wall of complexity.
    The other styles have more abilities that have been added over the years. I'm not sure it's added much beyond more damage. There's only one way to play the skill at particular gear brackets. There are interviews with the J-Mods involved in the beta. I like their vision for RS combat. I'm looking forward to seeing where they take the game.
    I definitely get the time consideration. RS has never been great about respecting the player's time. RS3 in particular has been poor about respecting the player's money. The games need to work on that.

    Necromancy should be the easier/casual style, easy to do great dps, but still a bit under the 3 others, so new or more casual players would be able to clear all the content, but would have to eventually switch to other style if they want to optimise dps. I think brigning the other styles up is a mistake, it makes insane bosses such as solak too easy, being able to skip almost every mechanics while learning (tested it)

    Ya this is where the "everyone gets everything" ideology ends up. Nothing is worth anything, nothing is prestigious, and no talent needed... There used to be drops worth multiple billions, and now almost (if not) anything is worth billions. There's no need to try, or expand your pvm game, and the best of all combat styles are now packed into Necro. It's pathetic, sad, and pitiful that some people will find some poor way to back it up. Whatever, enjoy your dwindling player base.

  • @MichaelOcherz
    @MichaelOcherz 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The skill issue with necro is absolutely nothing to do with gatekeeping. It is objectively great that necro makes content accessible, and it's great that it's raised the skill floor. What's not great is that it's lowered the skill ceiling, so players very quickly have essentially nothing to improve or work on, killing the reason to continue playing. As for people getting BIS - Runescape, more than any other MMO, has always been about the journey, rather than the destination. People who think the game is bad because they don't have BIS are frankly kidding themselves. The ideal is for that grind towards BIS to be really extremely long, but with lots of individual upgrades along the way so no individual grind for an upgrade takes a relatively large amount of the time. (IMO it's also more fun to not be able to kill all the bosses than to kill all of them so you've got something tangible to work on, but this is less critical)
    On the whole necro is okay. There is a lot to be said for its accessibility and that it makes combat more fluid and fun for people who prefer rotation design with less depth. However, we need to acknowledge that it came at a massive, massive cost in terms of the design of game-wide progression systems, and that's something which the devs need to focus on a great deal in the coming years.

    This is why we need the combat beta to go well. Necro is only this good because it's the product of a single cycle development philosophy. Mage, range, and melee are the legacies of likely dozens of developers spanning across nearly two decades.

    @G82Jesse 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Necro didn't ruin the game, it's shined a huge spotlight on the useless ability bloat the other 3 styles have. There is no reason for their to be some 50-60 basic abilities among range/mage/melee. There's also no reason you should hit a button and see a shield (splash) happen on your target. No other mmo works like this. Combat in WoW for example feels great, because it's a lot more like necro.

    For me personally, I stopped playing after Necromancy came out. The Hero Pass didn't play a role at all for me. I don't mind Necromancy - it is healthy for the game as a whole. I see the benefits it brings, and I absolutely think there needed to be a more efficient way for newer players to get into PVM.
    However, as an Ironman exclusive player, for me, it utterly destroyed the entire PVM progression. What is the point in working through all of the PVM progression, getting incremental upgrades, when you could just... skip it? Necromancy as a path trivialised all of the goals I had as a player. And for Ironman, the incremental goals are everything. Not everyone who plays Ironman agrees, and that's fine too. It just wasn't a good fit for the kind of player I am.

    But that was exactly the same problem as magic before necromancy: jagex dont know how to balance styles while respecting some difference between then.

    • @awerawer0708
      @awerawer0708 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the biggest issue is the fact that the best combat style is also the style with the easiest to obtain gear. Even tier 95's honestly as theyre all obtained from the same, easy to kill boss.
      It completely removed the grind to continually getting better and better armor as you pk'd more and more difficult bosses.

    they need people invested in the main aspect of runescape 3 wich is no secret.. its PvM. necromancy is the answer to that. more players interested and invested in the game means more potential for new/returning to stick to the game because they have this feeling that they advance through the challenges, the game has to offer. where before it was only accessible to those that sweat lord the fuck out of a bug(might not be but still is not a good mechanic..) that make u do more dmg if u switched your damn weapons every abilities. the dmg problem being seen rn will be brought in line with the hit cap increased with the other styles. what other styles need is their own identity. necromancy has minions they have residual soul gauge. other styles simply need their own freaking strong points instead of having to sweat your nerd ass and switch between your weapon to do high end pvm on the current day standard. the combat was NOT fun before necromancy. the fact is that 1% of the player base that are considered elites. are not the majority of the player base. what they are focused on is appealing to the majority with this skill. and tbh if the other styles had their own cool identities/modern mechanics to do more dmg and whatnot even new players returners, casuals would DEFINITELY be inclined into trying the old styles being updated to modern standard. keep it mind that the hit cap is def increased due to future plans. lets just wait and see. and let the noobs like me chill with necro and hopefully the other styles will benefit with modernisation and their updated identity so far im not impressed with what ive seen from the beta. they need to do better.

Necromancy needs to be needed as it's not good for the long term P health of the game or the economy of other items. I do love the style though and it's super casual if I can't be arsed to concentrate that much but it does devalue skill with other styles just due to the dps output you're always going to choose necromancy.

    Sounds like a double standard to me because, the “god” tier pvmers are mad now that people who don’t have hours and hours to spend on this game can enjoy the game now too? That’s comical. God forbid you’re not the best if the best in a 20 year old mmo anymore because, newer players get to do the same fun content you’ve been farming and selling the gold from.

  • @orionfire1947
    @orionfire1947 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I am not great at pvm, but the other styles are not good enough to compensate for that disparity. Ive been able to actually get out there with a goal in mind and kill the bosses ive wanted to. It is still not some foolproof thing that these people believe grants every wish. I still have to learn how to kill these bosses, and if people have a billion gold to spend on first necromancy items, that's cool for them. It doesn't affect me personally, but i have to assume that people have gone out of their way to feel some type about just that, where theyve already done everything there is to do and now it is seen as easier, when really i have died just as much learning these things as i would have otherwise. The combat style alone is not going to get me these high level boss kills, and perhaps this preconcieved notion that it Does Do That has bled into the general populace of pvmers who have done a lot for their things. I can understand the frustration born of sunk cost.

      Not at all, The problem with necro currently is it is the simplest style( To learn and obtain gear for) While also being the highest DPS and the safest/tankiest style, It is not good to the health of combat in the long run to have the simplest style dominate in all areas. In order to be efficient it almost feels like you are forced to use necro nowadays.
      Take telos for example, before necromancy
      - Mage was a very safe style to use but slower than ranged kills, this made it reasonable pick.
      - Range kills were more risky and harder to execute but rewarded you with faster kill times, this gives a good feeling when you finally master it and can farm kills using this style.
      -Melee was very prevalent a while back during the TMW meta as it was the safest option back then.
      Necro shits all over that kind of balance at bosses, and as such the drops from telos have plumented killing the GP per hour adding to the feeling of being forced to use necro to get the highest kills per hour.
      Most "high level PVMers" do not have a problem with necro being simple and accessible, like I hopefully have shown above it is because it currently dominates all other areas whilst at the same time being the simplest. Honestly I feel like most people that say PVMers are trying to gatekeep haven't spoken to or interacted with PVMers because it not the reason necro disliked at all.

    • @TheTravisTube
      @TheTravisTube 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. If you can’t see how there are negative downstream effects of the way necromancy has been implemented, the bigger issue is that Jagex is pandering to “potential players” i.e. people who don’t currently play lol, and in doing so they are sacrificing their current player base (not just top tier PVM btw). First off, Necromancy should have been an elite skill (Magic and summoning). It’s ridiculous that you can be 120 necromancy with all the quests completed at lvl 1 magic. That’s like being able to make the best food at lvl 1 cooking 😂. Next, they literally robbed the best aspects of every other combat skill and combined them. Why not implement something new instead of stealing split soul from ranged? Oh yeah - it’s because they’re lazy and understaffed. When you hand people cheat codes to kill bosses, time and time again it has been demonstrated that those players don’t stick around. They get bored and leave after a few weeks of destroying all the previous bossing content. Time will tell whether the gamble made by Jagex has paid off, or whether I’m right, and the success of old school shows that people want challenging, yet approachable content - not handed BIS gear, an army of NPCs and cheese abilities. The fun won’t last. If you weren’t able to PVM at all before necro it’s likely because (as with many players) you simply were not engaging with the content. I play the game once in a blue moon and even I can kill Ambassador with melee. The only one gatekeeping you is your own apprehension and anxiety.

      @@BrianWoodruff-Jr a full set of T90 sirenic is currently 5m this idea that its impossible to reach a decent level of gear apart from necro is just plain incorrect.

    Necromancy is a step away from switch scape, switch scape as a game combat system is a TERRIBLE system, and not good for the games health long term. Nobody wants to sit here switching between 7 different things for a boss fight.

    Necro made allowed the average player to access a lot more content. And overall the game needs more average and new players. The advanced players are going to likely stay regardless. So I'd say if anything, necro was a good thing. And leaves room to bring other combat styles up now as well. The game has been dwindling for some time but I don't think necro expedited it.

    Lmao… I love necromancy! If anything it saved people from quitting. I have never bossed before necromancy, an it’s helped me start.. who cares that more people can actually play the game? WHO CARES. If your that mad quit? 😂. We won’t miss you

    I like melee and I didn't like not being able to sell my loot and get melee upgrades so I kinda stopped playing. I don't wanna be a weird death wizard, I wanna hit things with a sword. The game doesn't cater to how I want to play, so I stop playing the game.

    Necromancy was a mistake! They should have just opened up solo bosses to masses if they wanted to engage more with combat 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Jagex forgot that RS is a multiplayer game...

      You're wishing the 1980s graphic and engine version of the game is the future of rs? You all use addons to tell you where to stand, explains why you couldn't figure out eoc.
